Superchargers have been easy for me for what I do. If you do a lot of canyon carving supercharger is the way too go. Turbo lag is just a bitch when you need to power through corner
my favorite thing about super chargers vs turbos is that with a turbo car you can drive it around like an econobox but when you want the power, just get the revs up a bit. can't do that in a supercharger :^)
I have a '98 1.8iS (5 speed, but with the LSD) and I'm still not sure which route to go down... I'd be self fitting it either way, so I'm tempted to try supercharging first and then if I feel the need, change to a turbo later and sell the SC kit. We shall see! If I supercharge it will be a fairly cheap build, I should be able to fab some brackets and pipework to make a Mini Cooper S supercharger fit, and I have an old VW diesel intercooler laying around...
To be fair MightyCarMods drags everything out into so many fucking videos. I embrace anyone that can condense their content, even though they're awesome and entertaining.
Gary Turbo same, the turbo vs supercharged mx5 didn't need to be more than 2 videos. First video should have been the build (simplified since they've already done a turbo mx5) and dyno runs. Then next video head to head tests and then that's it. They drag it so fucking much
I've not long bought an RS edition myself. Same model as this one in the video, but in silver. It has 102k on the clock and I've been seriously considering strapping a turbo on mine, but not sure whether hsving 102k on the clock is going to be too much for the engine. It's a massive amount of power increase. 😕
go super......think of it this way the Honda s2000 tune up beat on it all day every day shits and giggles ......rx8 gives you the same feelings but when you have to fix and baby it twice as much you going to wish you had the s2000
That must be a '99 with a center console from a 2000-2005. The car stereo looks like it needs to be made flush with the rest of the console. Maybe that's because of the add-on console mods for the boost gauges or what-not. I can't stand it when people do NOT make the car stereo flush with the console. The wheels on that MX5 in the video look VERY freakin' heavy though. I have done it several times on two different Miata's I've owned. I can't stand having it stick out too far. I've got my stereo installed so that ONLY the knobs push out over the bezel slightly. Yeah so I'm picky. I live in California if the CARB laws allowed a turbo or supercharger I would install one -- so what I've done with my '99 is the following: Flyin' Miata Koni/Sway Bars/FM Springs. 15" Enkie RP-F1 10 lb wheels w/Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Specs. Everything else is stock. If I lived in a different state I could get an FM turbo. I'd also be fine wiht a super charger. There is one CARB legal supercharger ONLY for the MX5 and that is a Fast Forward cold side. It runs about 5 grand. There just isn't much of a selection for the MX5 if you live in California. The Turbo/Supercharger I'd call it decision is not a debate its more of a preference because It is a little car that is extremely light. You throw in any Forced Induction and it is going to change just about everything except for the handling will stay the same.
Get 1999 or newer. You will not have pop-up lights. I had a 96 and I had no problem at all with the pop-up lights. They were actually kind of cool to drive with. Plus there are mods you can get to make the pop-up lights be static flush lights for those models. You don't want the pop-up lights be the make it or break it factor. They have nothing to do with how the car performs.
170 Hp Supercharger vs 220 Hp Turbocharger. Hmmm... I wonder which one will feel like, and have, more Horsepower? Duh! I'm looking for a fair match, can anyone direct me to an equal power comparison? Ask a professional driver and he'll tell you he wants smooth linear predictable power on the track. What feels more fun in a straight line, or stop light to stop light? I suppose a kick in the pants exponential surprise power from the turbo. I don't know guys, seems like a lot of work, time and money. I'm still tempted to supercharge my NA MX5. But when I want what that'll get me, I just jump in my 97 z3 or 03 330 and away I go! Smooth linear predictable power from the factory. Done deal, no fuss no muss.

Tbone Scriv which is what these cars are for lol
There's something about your reviews which make them good, but it's hard to put in words. Ur my favourite car reviewer
His reaction..... Priceless! Makes me want to boost my MX5 too!

This has finally convinced me to do turbo instead of supercharged!
I like the way you make me like cars I wouldn't of even gave a 2nd look before.
jamie back at it again!
Solid little little track package. I'd throw that BOV in the river the moment i got my hands on it though. Sounds like the budgie at the pet store.
I just don't enjoy lag, that's why I had a V6 rocketeer conversion done on my MX5

Stealing MCM's thunder, I don't blame you :P
Lol, I thought the same
MattJBaugh spot on mate lol
keeping it relevant , hence why his channel is growing so fast recently :) smart lad our Jamie
I don't like we're that airfilter is positioned. No heat shield either, right next to manifold
that's the nicest mx5 I've seen
So I'm looking to get either a miata NA or a astra VXR, both looks beautiful wondering which is would be quicker if miata was forged around 250
Come on then Jamie this or the S2000 you drove? Which one would you have?
Thanks for reviewing this. I am now the new owner of this 😁
Currently watching MCM Turbo vs Superchargers too!
What do you prefer? the K20 EG that Dan had, or this? I have a massive love for both
To be fair MightyCarMods drags everything out into so many fucking videos. I embrace anyone that can condense their content, even though they're awesome and entertaining.
Why Zen? that's why I don't watch them anymore, does my bloody head in

*cough* MIGHTYCARMODS *cough*
Nice to see you giving the car some stick jamie!
225 bhp at the wheels .. you mean whp?
Such a nice NB, great video.
the heat soak on that filter must be horrendous
Yeah most definitely. The owner should have added a custom shroud around the filter.
Did that with my Supra.

I love you videos it inspire to work hard and a funny
Big up the droop!
where's the Cosworth test drive 2 us devon boys when to see it
Sick video man love the mx5
Great review, looks like a complete hoot!
Looks and sounds awesome. Just wandering what steering wheel that is? I want it!
Love the wheels! Are those 16 inch? Looking to get the same style wheels for my mx5.
Was gonna ask the same question. Wish you would have gotten the answer. Pretty sure those are Volkswagen TE37s though. Best wheels ever.
That's it, I want to turbocharge my GT86 now lol
hows the beat called in the beginning?
go super......think of it this way the Honda s2000 tune up beat on it all day every day shits and giggles ......rx8 gives you the same feelings but when you have to fix and baby it twice as much you going to wish you had the s2000
ChristOpher DaNiel but a s200 is £9000and an rx8 is £900
subaru impreza type r?
Love the car, styling isn't for me but mk1's are better I think.
Also, aren't Subaru turbo's ugly??
But it doesn't have pop up headlights
That’s cause this is the mk2, the pop up headlights is the mk1
220 BH AT thee wheels now!
Steering wheel size ???
Name of the BOV?
cant wait to shove a snail on mine!
watch mightycarmods there doing this comparison aswel
just wasted it for us looks like the turbo one think thats the red one is going to win lol
Anyone know what type of seats they are? 😍
Joey McMahon they are vx220 seats. Nearly identical to the exige seats
A turbo from a subaru impreza Type R you say? 🤔😜

Zachary I understand completely,
its called OCD
Does it have stock internals
Most likely
Turbo!!!!!! The supercharger is too much for dat lil thing imo
You realise that the turbo makes more power? So if the supercharger is too much, the turbo would be way too much, according to this logic.
This thing is crazy o.o
Fuck it's amazing
not in white
What's Jesse going to think haha
mcm was there first and do it better.
welp, now i dont have to watch the long and drawn out might car mods series.
Supercharging has always been the lazy mans driving option. As long as you are stirring the stick enough Turbo is always the way to go.
Fuck it add both in a car 😂
Still slightly slower than my classic vw beetle. Best wishes to all
I didn't think ten-year-olds could grow beards.
bell end
I do like MX5's but the lights ruin them imo. They look so feminine. They do look fucking awesome with a bodykit and wing though, like a mini RX7
DildosForChristmas they should have added a bit more flush flip up headlights like rx7 to nb..

3:36 lmao.
lol!! i like the way he laugh :D
"Jizz guys"
N/A
I'm a bimmer guy so its always a supercharger for me
Well depends some BMW's come with turbo for example the m135 or m140 but bigger BMW's like the 5 series with a v8 are nicer with supercharger
2nd 😝
