  • Batch box rocket mass heater. Maximum Barrel temperature 820 degrees Fahrenheit, average Barrel temperature 350 to 550 degrees Fahrenheit. Average bench seat temperature between 95 and 150 degrees. Bench seat maintains 95 degrees after 8 hours after 3.5 hour fire. CPU fan is plugged in when fire starts and then unplugged when Fire gets going. Pretty satisfied with its performance.

thanks for posting your build. can you post your wood consumption now vs. before (what did you have before and how much wood did you burn?)

i like the v shaped benches, double the mass area to store the heat.

No, the exhaust is right behind my left shoulder it is a little bit hard to see but there is a exhaust there. it goes out the wall and then has an elbow and then goes up on the outside of the wall.

If you insulate around that exhaust outside, you will get better draw.

That's good to know because right now I'm kind of disappointed at the amount of creosote is building up in the pipe, it shouldn't be doing that and I'm not sure why it is, I'm tempted to go back to a 6" duct throughout the bench seat as opposed to the stratification chamber idea unless I can figure out why it's building up so much creosote

Creosote indicates a poor, low temperature burn. The first thing I think of is your comment that you restricted the air for a longer burn. I suggest you try more oxygen (more air) and try for a shorter burn time. This is to raise the temperature. If the barrel gets too hot or if you want the house to warm more quickly, you can remove the bricks that are blocking the bell (drum).

do you have a video on how you made the bench for the rocket stove

Did you build this without an exhaust or chimney ?
