Thanks for the comment - I ended up using that old steering wheel on another 70 Chevelle project recently and noticed a spring down in that hole that the wired got shoved into, it must have been already down there on this project. so don't forget the spring.
@@MarkMeldrumChevelleHunters thanks. I got so frustrated I put the car away- If I recall correctly the part I bought had a small plastic locking insert and the old one didn't have it. Guess I'll take a look at it again this Spring.
What is holding the steering wheel pad on? Is it the 4 screws you had mentioned? Or does it just pull off? Sorry novice here. Not a fan of this steering wheel and would like to change it to a different style.
Great question - it's hard to get video on that. The 4 screws go in from the back to hold the pad on . FYI, a 71-72 pad only had two screws from the back.
I have a 1970 nova that should have had the same steering wheel, but at one time someone replaced it with a three spoke chrome job with a wood rim. I purchased a reproduction wheel from Classic Industries. it looks fine but it does not feel like I remember them feeling, kind of cheep feeling. since you had an original and changed it do you notice a difference in feel between the two?
Red loctite, mabey, blue loctite no. I have never had an issue taking apart things that had loctite on them. Does it take more torque? Yes but never does it mess threads up

Nice video - I ran into an issue with the same horn contact on my '70 Impala and wasn't sure how it should be connected - I'll give it a try.

They feel exactly the same - Hard plastic.
Locktite...... so the threads will be really messed up when you have to take it apart . 👎
