Looked like you were having fun out there mowing and spraying. Good job prepping the field for hay. God bless you. You are doing what He intended - tending the earth and looking after the animals.
I lost all my chickens first year of having them due to a weasel or raccoon busting through the field. Lost maybe 200 at most when including time, effort, and buying the chickens. But it just sucks to see something you worked hard on killed off or in your case not grow. it was 18 chickens overall. We had two killed early on by a fox when they were out in the free range area.
imagine what our grandparents would think of all the technology, drone footage and equipment. I bet it would blow their minds. Man did they work hard back in the day.
I was thinking the same thing... I was going to spray my lawn and plant grass seed the next day, but everywhere I looked said that was a horrible idea.
Check out Dr Christine Jones videos(soil biologist). I think the reason you didn't need any amendments is because the other fellow was no till and left stubble on the field.
In Arkansas we can go to the extension service office and get boxes for soil samples get your soil and place them in the boxes label the boxes and return to the extension service they'll send them to the lab and you'll get the report in about 7 to 10 days
Brother, Why don’t you plow the corn stalks straight in to the ground let them creat air pockets for future roots, instead of mowing it? Unless you want to practice your implements and have some extra time and diesel. Good luck with your new venture, you’ll have good memories from the first experiences . Also, since you are spraying in circles, it’s hard to track where was your last pass- so add some blue food coloring- it’ll mark the edges and won’t waste your spray, time and gas.
The fact is that glyphosate is far, far safer than the weed killers it replaced, so people who want to ban it should be careful what they ask for. Another conveniently ignored fact is that some chemicals approved for organic farming are actually much more toxic than glyphosate. We have huge environmental problems to deal with on this planet, so I wish people would pick their battles more thoughtfully.
I know this is a year old- but try downloading the 'FieldBee' app for your phone. Its not perfect GPS of course, but it has helped me in a pinch when doing things like spraying, spreading, or drilling into hayground where I can't quite tell where I've been. Plus it shows speed and coverage area info on there so thats a bonus.
Good job prepping that field. Roundup is a good broad spectrum weed killer. Will be interesting to see how much hay you get. Looking for two or three harvests of hay?
@august they get ahold of it when grazing. Allot of the earth is polluted and it’s from the elites keep the money coming in what happened to hard working men. It’s his land so whatever
You might check out some videos put out by the NRCS, Ray Archuleta and Gabe Brown and learn about cover crops and hay field management without having to buy and then apply pesticides, weed killers and chemical fertilizers. Your land will thank you and repay you with increased fertility, water retention and lower cost of operation. Your local office might not be aware of recent advancements in regenerative agriculture or it's manned by old school chemical farming types. Then again, it's your land to do what you want with it. Call me crazy, but I don't want to feed my children food produced using glyphosates or pesticides given the chance that they do cause lymphoma!
Why wouldn't you save time and money by putting nutrition back into the ground by doing a Control burn? Spraying Roundup is making your field worse and contaminating your livestock and drinking water.
Also, just because it might be an editable plant doesn't mean it would make good hay. Hay is made from varieties that will dry down quickly. If you have plants that haven't dried mixed in a bale it could turn moldy. White clover is a good example, used in pasture as forage, but not hay cause it is too moist and will ruin hay bales. Red clover will dry and is used for hay. So you want to bale only certain types plants to ensure you have good hay.
@@jamessellers5160 like he stated, he's to lazy to do it the right way so he's just going to do it the easy way. Hate to say this but "RoundUp" is in everything you eat, including organic. We are never getting away from it and the amount that is used is 2-3 oz. per gallon at most. RoundUp is also not soil active. Lori Neid, If you know of a better way, then please tell us, instead of just hammering him for the way he's doing it. @@augustreil weeds like hard compacted acidic soil. So, if you loosen compaction by using a mole like tiller ( about 2 or 3 hundred dollars to by one ) to loosen the soil 'without turning' it then saturate the field with slow release lime and organic material, like manure it would solve the problem. Its much cheeper in the long run and I'm not hammering him I'm trying to help. The way he's doing it he'll have to repeat every year with ok results. Except for poisoning the earth and everything in it.
Just started watching your vids the other day.I am enamoured by your work and will continue to watch .Best of luck with your future.
My hay feild was a complete loss this year. Spent 900 on seed and ended up with a feild of weeds. Super bummer

Hey Congrats on hitting 10,000 subscribers!
This is the process most youtube farmers/homesteaders leave out - go here to get this info, go here to get this tested, etc. This is very informative.

Hi..... Evan, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
Great video we all appreciate you putting it together. Good video production too. Very informative.
Probably a good idea to wear a Respirator when spraying Glyphosphate given all we now know in terms of it causing lymphoma . Protect yourself.
Nice piece of property 😯
Will the round-up not interfere with the growth of the Alfa Alfa seedling? From what you are saying you spray one and the next day you plant

I've been spraying weeds for years in a cabbed 4440 but you're gonna get parkensons doing it with no cab

And we wonder why we have so many cancers...
You can get a soil probe for pulling soil samples

You a chain saw loader bucket and someone to run the tractor and you can have the trees trimmed in less then a day .
can you show us you growing hay next year to if you a re growing next year?
Buy a flame weeder and stop using toxic Roundup
Yes, they are great. Thanks so much
from where I can buy Alfalfa seed at lowest price possible for planting on 15 acres? thank you
I wonder if adding red food coloring to your roundup would help you see where you've sprayed so that you'd get good coverage? Just a thought.
Sounds like it might work. 👍
They make dye for that, and it's pretty pricey!

Since we are just planting it this year, it needs to get established, so we may only get one cut, we have wait and see.
Please, dont do the chemicals with you in open space, put some long suit for protection ... you do great job :)
Is there a tree house on the old 3 acres con field u should show it 2 the utob viewers

Hit it hard with roundup and 24d and then drill in seed with land pride nt606 3 point drill.
Lost me at roundup. Thanks formpoisoning the field and the air around it. What a shame.

Instead of salt and pepper shakers on your table , you just put the roundup on your food.
That was alfalfa you pullued up
that was purple deadnettle. alfalfa has more of an oval leaf not a heart shaped.

That "weed" is edible purple dead-Nettle! No reason to spray. Reminds me of people spraying dandelions...food and coffee sub
