The fact that 9 people have held 3 records at once is crazy. But doing it in 2023 is wild.
Most of them were short category players that didn't have much competition during their active time, though.
Suigi is a different breed, though. He totally smashes a nowadays highly competitive category (16 stars) by 15 seconds and then just proceeds to break the 1 and 0 star records as if only total noobs competed in those categories before.

Highest compliment I've been paid. I've read Joseph Campbell, Chris Vogler, and a few other authors to try and improve my writing over the last year, glad to see the efforts been noticed.
I imagine one strat that will be incorporated into 16 Star in the future is the LLL Bridge BLJ. Since it requires near frame-perfect mashing and pause screen presses to conserve speed, it currently is only done in TAS and single star runs, but it is possible RTA: Liam even does attempts on stream sometimes during his practice sessions. If executed as fast as in the single star records, it can save 4 seconds on the Big Bully star and 6 seconds on the Log Rolling star over the triple jump wall kick strat done in 16. The Bully star, although not as much timesave, would most likely be the star in which this trick is incorporated first, since it requires a much less precise angle.
It's funny and cute how their voice gets squeaky and breaks when they get over-excited from getting a new record XD. Just make sure nobody is sleeping, or the noise will wake them up XD
Suigi is a great player but he’s a little hard on himself. I was watching him stream a category where he already held the WR and he punched himself in the face after an early reset. Bro needs to chill a little bit.
Yeah and it honestly makes it a bad stream. I'd much rather watch a charismatic 8th place than a self harming, uncharismatic 1st place.

- Salt Cannonless is more like 80/90% success (at top level), not 50%
- "Burn boosting" isn't a thing, it's called "Lava boost"

14:43 the comparison is a bit complex because it is comparison to lblj and non lblj. I love that this speedrun community is been out since from 2004 and the game is still iconic.
The no setup cannon less is been out for a while long time before the first setup of cannon less from 2014.
Cheese can help suigi for 120 star because he’s been around since 2014 and he is arguably the goat of 120 star before weegee’s took the 120 star wr.

On the main board for full games yes been only 5, although are some emulator and vc category extensions and ILS broken as well, but of course no 1 cares about those but technically they are something that happened, but yes WRS like this are rare and incredible.

Edit: I see now that the "3 perfect records" are including two "1 star" runs. The chapter headers threw me off.

I find funny how those categories are created: a new glitch, so new category.
It's interesting to know how historically it improved, but sometimes doesn't make sense.
They created the 16 star category, ok, so the objective should pick 16 stars and finish the game, right? But no. They disallow the BLJ on the door of the 30-star. Why? It would be faster to pick the Mips star and clip through the DDD as they do on 0-star.
Because if you allow the BLJ which is a really difficult trick then you may as well just do 1 or 0 star which are much faster runs
Don't think of it as "16 star", it's any% no sblj
The amount of stars required for a category does not always reflect the requirements for that category. The intention of the run comes before the number. For instance, 16 stars is done with the intent of routing the run around using Mips clip, as this was the fastest known way to beat the game when it was discovered. Getting 16 stars using a different route to finish the game would defeat its purpose and make it arbitrary.
Comparatively, 15 stars is a category extension where the objective is to get one unique star from each of the 15 main courses, not just any 15 stars. But instead of calling it One-star-only-per-main-level% it's more interesting to say the number of stars as the category name.

absolutely nothing against this person but I hope all the submissions are already checked for any sketchiness. Its wonderful to see games and times come down but many tweak things to pull off records after a while. Then it becomes a bit controversial until someone can officially beat the times.

There isn't much more to say, the route is identical to 1 star except you do a few extra blj's to pass through the entry for DDD and go right into BITFS, everything else is the same as 1 star, you just skip DDD.
As a bonus to the video, Suigi is the only runner (other than Weegee) who has fully endorsed using ultimate DDD skip despite its extreme inconsistency. Ultimate DDD skip shaves off quite a few seconds compared to the usual strat depending on execution.
Top runners usually build up speed on the left side of the pillar to get to a certain speed at the door and use different input set-ups depending on that speed, which you can guess based on Mario's shadow. This is obviously a lot slower but much more reliable.

Watching players fly through Mario 64 levels is what speed running should have been all about. Prioritizing glitching through walls and skipping everything you possibly can ruined what would have made speed running fun and entertaining to watch. I’ve never seen a movement single handedly destroyed by the people involved.
