  • Incredible surprises await Tony in Auckland as he travels to New Zealand’s North Island. Little known mysteries are explained and prove that despite its small population, during war times Auckland was prepared to drop bombshells...literally!
Hear about New Zealand’s secret weapon of mass destruction during WW2 and the famous Hillary brothers whose war efforts were worlds apart. The bugle sounds at the stunning Auckland War Museum as the Community Roadshow begins; Tony meets a man whose photograph of his grandfather in WW1 could rewrite history and there’s a tank with a name you wouldn’t believe- Auckland reigns with surprises.

That is me at 38:38 in the straw boater with the blue band. I took my mum to meet Sir Tony that day. At the time she was very ill and wanted to meet him which she did. and the excitement was too much for her and she ended up in hospital. I asked him about the turnip in Blackadder that was shaped like a thingie? I asked him if Rhowan Atkinson had a thingie shaped like a turnip. He said he had heard it was but had not actually seen it. Sir Tony is a true living treasure.

Dear Sir Tony, I am an American (please don't hold that against me :) But I have been watching absolutely every show I can find you involved with, from Time Team forward. I adore you & your reporting makes me feel like I'm right there with you. My ancestors (Ross Clan) of course came from Scotland and were owners at one time of the Urquhart Castle in Scotland. So I particularly enjoyed your shows about the castles. But I have learned so very much about the history of this magnificent world from you! I didn't like History when taught in school, as it was all about just names & dates - no particulars. But it's the Historical particulars that totally fascinate me now & I'm like a sponge soaking it all up as I watch!! So, thank you, thank you for your reporting & all those involved with the many facets of producing your shows. I do hope I can look forward to watching & listening to many more of your programs in the near future as I have nearly depleted the current list! Please keep up the good work if possible. Very truly yours, Carolyn (Ross) Hess.

Fellow American here also huge fan of Sir Tony and Tour of Duty wrote in another post here it would be awesome for him to do an American episode featuring people whose relatives joined Commonwealth forces before official American involvement in the World Wars

@@caseymccallister9539 He did do one show here in America out West. I'm sure you could easily find it. But I would love, as well, for him to go back further & do a show as you described. Maybe if he reads this he will put a "bug" in someone's ear :)

Saw that West series and loved it. His take on Custer and Little Big Horn was very interesting. You are so right let's hope the idea takes root :)

Keith Park was said to be the only man who could have lost the war in an afternoon. He was without doubt one of the greatest commanders of the Second World War from any country.

Sir Tony should receive the Nobel for the Humanities award. Please like if you agree.

I am a fortunate Aussie who has spent a lot of his life in NZ and calls a Kiwi Max in the handful I respect as my best mates. As for the school kids they represent the best of Kiwi loyalty, fighting spirit and love of family. Thanks Tony and the crew. Certainly the most moving of all your Tour of Duty videos. Forever ANZAC.

Great view for me as an American and big admirer of the ANZAC. Would love to see Sir Tony do an episode in the States of Americans who had family join Commonwealth forces before Pearl Harbor ( proud to say I have several on both sides both the British and Canadian services)

Considering that BlackAdder's last series/ season was set during WWI in the trenches, Sir Tony would focus more on it.
