I feel extremely lucky to have started watching basketball when Jordan was a rookie. I was 10 and had Chicago Sports Channel so I watched every single game for years. After the Jordan era the Kobe era kicked in so it was a hell of a ride. I've been to Bulls games but it's better in TV. Marv Albert on network and Johnny Red Kerr on Chicago Sports Channel. I got to see Bird and Magic and all the greats. Kids today have no clue.

That Kobe Shaq duo is the only team to 3-peat in the post Jordan era. Actually aside from the Jordan bulls dynasty and the Celtics eight straight rings, the lakers are the only team in history to 3-peat (once in the early days of the nba and once in the Kobe Shaq era).

What’s crazy about Shaq and Kobe is how they were paired less than 10 years after Magic and Kareem hung it up as a duo. I know top 10 nba player lists are very subjective, but by most people’s lists, that’s two sets of top 10 players paired together, separated by less than a decade. Insane. That’s why the Lakers are the best NA pro sports franchise of all time.

It's kind of funny how Kobe was always portrayed as the villain in this relationship, but you can see how much he loves and respects Shaq. They easily could've been Kareem and Magic 2.0 and owned all of the 00s, with the old guy being the feature player in the first half of the dynasty, and the young guy being the feature in the second (we just never got there).
It's also crazy how often Kobe is ridiculed for playing with Shaq (which is partly why a rift grew between them, where Kobe felt obligated to be the man on his own) while casual debate circles never use that same logic towards Magic despite the fact that Magic never did shit without Kareem AND 2 OTHER HOFs on his teams. He also only won MVPs when Kareem was on his last legs. The dynamic of the two duos was almost identical, but narratives sure affect Kobe's legacy a lot more than Magic in these debate circles. Still, narratives can't dispute the fact that 5>4. Kobe was a legend, and gets dissed far too often. Top 3 imo.
To say Magic did shit without Kareem is just plain wrong. Magic is one of only three players in history to have won titles at every level including high school, college, the NBA, and the Olympics! Not to mention dragging his team to the NBA Finals in 1991 AFTER Kareem left the team.
