Only low brass players know how hard it is to make those high notes sound sweet and gentle. Great job!

I am female and I am encouraged when I hear female baritone and euphonium players. Especially attractive ones like Katrina. I played baritone in high school and college. I worked hard at it, but sometimes I'd feel a bit embarrassed telling what instrument I played back then now, seeing that it's not an instrument as many girls play (or often one many people have even heard of). I'd be afraid people wouldn't think it's feminine. Isn't that kind of dumb? :)

This is a 4 year old comment, so sorry for digging out graves. But I think you should whatever you want to do and enjoy. And if the people you tell don't think baritone is feminine. So what. :) Do what you want to do! :D

Girls can play any instrument. Instruments are instruments without a feminine or masculine quality.

I played baritone/euphonium in public and high school and to me its about passion. To get to the high notes its about the lip position. You also have to be a part of the instrument but most of all never give up. I remember when my music teacher in high school asked me to join a stage band. i told him that a baritone isnt part of a stage band but he told me i want you to anyways. give it all you got.

Apart from the great musicianship, so...was that an alto/tenor horn? It seems like it's the size of one, but the mouthpiece looks like it's for a euphonium/baritone.

I can't lie about this song, I found the melody so beautiful that I struggled to play it on my euphonium as my lips would quiver with emotion so I would screw it up... Think I should have tried to detach myself from it more

I think the accompaniment is deliberately kept very soft, in order to highlight the baritone solo in this delicate piece, which was originally written for cello. Notice the conductor's gensture at 0:27 .
