I personally want to thank you Ken for helping photographers all over the world with the wisdom you have when it comes to photography!👏📸👏
Thank you, George!
For me Ken is like the pope when it comes to camera/lens reviews. Whatever he says, amen. Never buy gear without checking this channel first. Thanks!
You’re too kind, thank you!!

The excitement never ends on this channel!
Too much fun! Thanks!
Its Ken the "Go to" expert, for me since 2003 or 2004. And hes made me a 'better photographer' and he is doing so. Whenever I have a doubt I revisit his tips. And Ken you are a blessing. Cheers.
You are so kind! This video doesn’t really help, but seems people want to see inside so that’s why I do them. I should have the full review updated later this week at www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/lenses/100mm-macro.htm
@@KenRockwellTV Oh Ken, Its a pleasure to confess how I learnt certain nuances from your tips/advice/ and your knowledge sharing. This particular unboxing may not be an exhaustive review, I simply jumped on this thread to share my happiness. Love and respect to you. Keep up the great work , your expertise is a treasure trove for all those who want to get better in the craft for all those who want to get better in the craft.
Dear Ken. Thank you so much for the camera and lens reviews. I have read some reviews about a focus shift issue with this lens. Keen to hear your views about that. Thank you
Never seen that. Back in olden days before Mirrorless, AF systems used a completely different technology and there could be focus shift that varied with spherical aberration levels. This was usually corrected electronically with data in the lens talking to the AF system to correct it. I can see how the variable spherical aberration in this lens could coincide an old full-aperture AF system, but after all these words here’s the solution if you ever see any focus shift in this lens at the extreme settings of the SA CONTROL: just focus with the lens stopped down and problem, if any, will go away. Also when you set the SA CONTROL away from zero you’re using a special effect and there often is no longer one point of best focus, clouding the issue. Again, I never had any problem. Thanks!
Awesome review! I’ve been saying bokeh wrong all this time😳😂..you’re my #1 go-to for lens and camera reviews!
Hi! I did hear a native Japanese guy say bokeh once, and it came out “Bo-Kay,” so beats me how to say it! Thanks again! (You’re so kind; this was just me looking in the box the first time; the review comes in a few weeks at www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/lenses/100mm-macro.htm
I read or saw somewhere that the hood is NOT included in the package? I receive mine tomorrow, after waiting 5 months after my pre-order, so excited!
As you’re learning, there are many unqualified sources of photo information online. Mine came with a hood! I can’t vouch for what you’ll get if you’re in another country. Thanks! Here are closeup photos of my hood www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/lenses/100mm-macro.htm#hood
Very nice Ken I'll go and read your review now but I just got this lens today sold my Nikkor Z 105 macro but how do you know if your at 1.1 or 1 4 as it doesn't have a focus limiter on the lens?
The Canon 100mm RF macro has no repro ratio scale. If this is important to you, use a ruler at the subject to measure the horizontal width of the field and divide by 36mm. In olden days scales were sold from which you could read the ratio directly.
I use this soft cases to store photography related odds and ends
Thanks!
Hi, this lens has one major omission that could be fixed in firmware, that is the lack of magnification ratios on the distance scale in the viewfinder eg 1:3,1:4 etc. These are used in dentistry and other scientific fields so that repeat photos are always taken at the same distance. Earlier EF lens have this as does the Nikon Z mount counterpart.
Agreed. Thanks!!!!
Compare it to the MP-E 65!!! That would be an awesome video!
Totally different lenses; the MPE can’t focus any farther away than 1:1
Hi Ken, do you have any article or resource about photos taken by
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR Lens?
Of course! Everything is at my website; RUclips is just for fun. The full review and sample files are at www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/24-70mm-vr.htm Thanks!
@@KenRockwellTV Oh thank you so much Ken 😃 I always check your website but I don’t know why I couldn’t find this article. It’s vey helpful, have a nice day 🌷🙏
Great quick overview!
But Beautiful job of packing? You can tell the lens inside didn’t have enough cushion to keep it from dangling. It just happen to me too recently and it’s unacceptable when spending thousands for lens. Disappointed with B&H in that regard. You would think if they do this since the 70s they would be better at it..
It had plenty of packing. It’s packed well enough in Canon’s box that B&H could just tape it closed and slap a lable on it and ship it that way; Canon’s box has all the protection the lens needs. Thanks!
are you a fan of the 70-200mm lenses? or do you prefer primes like these
Neither. Today the Canon EF 100-400 IS L II is the best. 70-200 went obsolete with film; we don’t need 2.8 for digital except for some sports.
@@KenRockwellTV what about between the 16-35mm f4L does that rule still apply? We don't need f2.8!?🙏🏽 Thank you Ken 😊👑
2.8 is nice but almost never necessary. I prefer a stabilized 16-35/4 to an unstabilized f/2.8 - but if I shot action it would be the other way around.
@@KenRockwellTV true because unstable is also lighter, got it, and most wide angled aren't going to be utilizing that extra stop, ur absolutely right thanks for saving me money! And my back hurts less thinking about it 👑
Can You Please Review the New Pentax Camera???
Probably won’t have the time. Thanks for asking.
Are all parcels from B&H surprise packages for you? ;-)
Always funny your "Made in Japan" fetish. In the 70s, the decade you always love to mention, "Made in Japan" was a synonym for cheap and plasticy.
Yes! I get so much from B&H I never know for sure which order is what till I open it. But today with the global economic collapse Japan is as good as it gets next to Germany, USA, Swiss Made and so forth. Thanks!
Japan is not do all of manufacturing.
But sun rises as well. Thanks!
First!
Thanks!
Thought it was interesting, so I Googled it. OUCH! A 100mm f2.8 for a thousand dollars! No thanks.
This one works great on DSLRs and Mirrorless with the adapter www.kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/100mm-f28-ef.htm
