I just wanted to say, that I have never found a song like this, that helped me through every major crisis of my life. The lyrics are so beautiful and bear so much truth. The emotion is so raw. Just a big thank you to this band, you have impacted my life in the most beautiful way.
Spotify Discover Weekly brought me here. I really like this one - can't help getting a strong Modest Mouse vibe, but the vocals are more "in control" so to speak than Isaac Brock.
Definitely. I'm a huge Modest Mouse fan so I REALLY like this band when I'm not in the mood for any of MM's songs, I get something different but similar.
6 years after I found this song, I still think it's the best fucking music I've ever heard. This track is beat-for-beat perfect. And the lyrics? Been thinking about them for years. Absolute masterpiece.
Shocked I only found this song now, So happy it showed up in my Discover Weekly. This song hit me like a truck, something about it really filled in a void that I was feeling and the beauty of the lyrics and simplicity of the sound just drew me in. Just wanted to say artists work their whole lives to make a song with this kind of impact on people and it was worth the whole project to make this alone, it's been a long time since I've felt this way about a song. Just found you guys and am ready to dive in but just want you to know this song showing up in my ears was a breathe of life in me. Just wanted to thank you for that and you've got a fan.
[Verse 1] I have this problem where I'm already measuring how you'll react Before I even finish what I was gonna say I dance around my thoughts like they're a fire And if I order my steps in just the right sequence I could make it rain And it isn't a joke; or some poem I wrote It's the shadow tracing back to every word I've spoke Burn brighter, if you can't fix the house that you were born into Well, put a match to work and see what fire can do Cut cleaner, if the hanging fray causes you to cling to the old Ways and means and methods then the knife was too dull And so the lesson becomes; how you fix a problem Can yield a grimmer consequence than what you kept from [Hook] And I, I Have found this And I, I Have found this [Verse 2] A full measure shaken down, spilled over was the cup I had drawn Took me one little tumble and the thing was half gone And half-full is a fool's assessment when the ledger is red And the deficit is only ever making ahead And though a slow motion spill looks real cool in a film In either case the result is typically a mess [Hook] And I, I Have found this And I, I Have found this [Verse 3] My soul held a measure and the ledger was null My feet found a dry place to count in the cold It's all coming due now I felt my soul pulling in on the fabric of days All of time bunched up, converging like a senator's blade And my mind raced over all of everything that happened then But it halted at the thought of things about to begin Cause my heart held a ledger and my credits were full When my feet set to walking out all too alone And my heart held a ledger and my credits were full When my feet found a soapbox to stand in the cold [Chorus] Now about how one goes on one's own Saying "Hey babe, this place ain't so cold." Well don't you know, there's only one of ya You just might end up with pneumonia And about how one might slow one's fall To an amount down to faking control Well I guess that would depend on it The kind of time you want to spend on it Stand-offing often pays off, but I am pondering well Might be stepping down wasn't really so low My feet found a soapbox to stand in the cold And my lungs were full [Verse 4] And praise be to the father forever Who can take a dead thing and make it green Only ever restoring And my soul held a ledger and he paid it in full When my root was a dead snag out in the cold And then the drums kicked in And I was spilling out some feverish thing But the amps were cranked up so loud Well, I didn't think you'd hear Well, how about them something or others I had seemed to say Well maybe listen closer and I'll try to sing clear My tongue held a ledger and my credits were full When my feet found a soapbox to stand in the cold And my tongue held a ledger and my credits were full Consequences of grandstanding out in the cold [Chorus] Now about how one goes on one's own Saying "Hey babe, this place ain't so cold." Well don't you know there's only one of ya You just might end up with pneumonia And about how one might slow one's fall To an amount down to faking control Well I guess that would depend on it The kind of time you want to spend on it And when it comes to gallows humor it's a slippery slope You see, you never ask a hangman to show you the ropes I know you meant it as a "Ha ha ha!" You just might end up with a twiney collar And about how one goes on one's own Saying "Hey babe, this place ain't so cold." Well don't you know there's only one of ya You'll only end up with pneumonia Heey! (Heey!)
You guys don't get enough love so I'mma say it. You're my favorite band ever and as far as I'm concerned, this song is absolutely perfect. Eight and a half minutes of chills. Keep up the great work you guys.
Just discovered this song today by good ole Spotify discover weekly and have already listened to it more than 8 times. Absolutely obsessed! I haven’t felt that moved by a song in a long long time. Thanks Bees!
Instantly turned them into my top 3 go to bands. The inspiration for this music came from beyond just this little earth. These guys nailed something that many artists spend their careers trying to find. In today’s world this kind of thing is so much more priceless..
@@MeLikeBees wow this is so awesome. My girlfriend and I love you guys. I guess my question is, who or what bands do you draw inspiration from... I'm a huge fan of modest mouse along with you guys, and I feel some similarities in music. Am I right or am I off for thinking that?
@@northparker9508 when we started and were writing a lot of The Ides, there was definitely a heavy Modest Mouse influence. as of currently and lately (our last 4-5 singles), it's The Killers, Bleachers, The Strokes, stuff kinda like that
Such an absolutely fantastic tune. Grips you right from the beginning. Although the whole album is great, this song ends it beautifully. I've been showing all my friends that appreciate crunchy tunes and havent disappointed anyone. I doubt I will. I just listened to "Run" today on spotifizzle, I'm glad you guys are making good tunes again!
I like the bass drum sound a lot. The distorted and clean guitar tones are nice, you didn't shy away from that vibrato on the guitar. I don't know if your using flanger or whatever on that distortion but it sounds great.
Digging it too. Saw you dudes with a good life a few years ago. Modest mouse vibes for sure, it's the rhythm of the vocal lines. My guitar dude said you guys are from Joplin. We are in KC. Let's play a show sometime!
There's a lot of lyrics that are clearly biblical, take for example "Praise to the Father" and "Full measure, pressed down, shaken together". I know the band name comes from a verse in the Psalms - they surrounded me like bees - but are y'all like, a christian band, but one that's not as explicit, like Switchfoot?
As someone with depression and anxiety, these lyrics are just so damn good. On all fronts, musically, lyrically or just emotionally, it's a masterpiece for me. Good fucking job. also while we're at it, trying to find to figure the themes here. I know the few first verses are about overthinking but what is this one about? i got some loneliness and regret out of it but don't know the rest. My soul held a measure and the ledger was null My feet found a dry place to count in the cold It's all coming due now I felt my sorrow pulling in on the fabric of days All of time bunched up, converging like a senator's blade And my mind raced over all of everything that happened then But it halted at the thought of things about to begin 'Cause my mind held a ledger and my credits were full When my feet set to walking out all too alone And my heart held a ledger and my credits were full When my feet found a soapbox to stand in the cold Now how about one goes on one's own Saying "hey babe, this place ain't so cold" Well don't you know, there's only one of ya You just might end up with pneumonia And about how one might slow one's roll To an amount down to faking control Well I guess that would depend on it The kind of time you want to spend on it
hey Seif! thank you so much for digging the tunes. We really appreciate that. the lines you included generally are about our souls/minds being in debt and at fault, in relation to God, then also about how we try to go out on our own in life and how that is detrimental to our well-being. how that situation can't be reconciled w/o someone else
Sound it out. Main riff is really simple - 3/4 modified power chords, remove the middle string, slide between the 3 chords in that patterns. Sorry, don't have my guitar on me.
I just wanted to say, that I have never found a song like this, that helped me through every major crisis of my life. The lyrics are so beautiful and bear so much truth. The emotion is so raw. Just a big thank you to this band, you have impacted my life in the most beautiful way.
I ALWAYS get a shiver when the drums kick in at the beginning. Everything about this song is fantastic.
Spotify Discover Weekly brought me here. I really like this one - can't help getting a strong Modest Mouse vibe, but the vocals are more "in control" so to speak than Isaac Brock.
Thanks Paul. Glad you like it
Same! I was thinking Modest Mouse too
Paul Cole plus the hauntingness of brand new. Probably my favorite song I’ve found this year

[Verse 1]
I have this problem where I'm already measuring how you'll react
Before I even finish what I was gonna say
I dance around my thoughts like they're a fire
And if I order my steps in just the right sequence I could make it rain
And it isn't a joke; or some poem I wrote
It's the shadow tracing back to every word I've spoke
Burn brighter, if you can't fix the house that you were born into
Well, put a match to work and see what fire can do
Cut cleaner, if the hanging fray causes you to cling to the old
Ways and means and methods then the knife was too dull
And so the lesson becomes; how you fix a problem
Can yield a grimmer consequence than what you kept from
[Hook]
And I, I
Have found this
And I, I
Have found this
[Verse 2]
A full measure shaken down, spilled over was the cup I had drawn
Took me one little tumble and the thing was half gone
And half-full is a fool's assessment when the ledger is red
And the deficit is only ever making ahead
And though a slow motion spill looks real cool in a film
In either case the result is typically a mess
[Hook]
And I, I
Have found this
And I, I
Have found this
[Verse 3]
My soul held a measure and the ledger was null
My feet found a dry place to count in the cold
It's all coming due now
I felt my soul pulling in on the fabric of days
All of time bunched up, converging like a senator's blade
And my mind raced over all of everything that happened then
But it halted at the thought of things about to begin
Cause my heart held a ledger and my credits were full
When my feet set to walking out all too alone
And my heart held a ledger and my credits were full
When my feet found a soapbox to stand in the cold
[Chorus]
Now about how one goes on one's own
Saying "Hey babe, this place ain't so cold."
Well don't you know, there's only one of ya
You just might end up with pneumonia
And about how one might slow one's fall
To an amount down to faking control
Well I guess that would depend on it
The kind of time you want to spend on it
Stand-offing often pays off, but I am pondering well
Might be stepping down wasn't really so low
My feet found a soapbox to stand in the cold
And my lungs were full
[Verse 4]
And praise be to the father forever
Who can take a dead thing and make it green
Only ever restoring
And my soul held a ledger and he paid it in full
When my root was a dead snag out in the cold
And then the drums kicked in
And I was spilling out some feverish thing
But the amps were cranked up so loud
Well, I didn't think you'd hear
Well, how about them something or others I had seemed to say
Well maybe listen closer and I'll try to sing clear
My tongue held a ledger and my credits were full
When my feet found a soapbox to stand in the cold
And my tongue held a ledger and my credits were full
Consequences of grandstanding out in the cold
[Chorus]
Now about how one goes on one's own
Saying "Hey babe, this place ain't so cold."
Well don't you know there's only one of ya

I’m obsessed with how cleverly written these lyrics are. Wow.
🙏
The first verse means so much to me. It took over 30 years but finally somebody was able to articulate the mess in my head
Years later, still responding to comments. Really shows how amazing this band truly is. I love you guys
Shoutout to Specialized for including this song in their new Trail Hunter - Frames video. I almost cried. 👨🏻🌾🚵🏻♂️

Such a good album, but this masterpiece takes the cake. Hope to see you up in KC someday!

I am hearing Modest Mouse, Wolf Parade and Manchester Orchestra. Good song.
same, had this on in the background working in the shop and had to stop and look because i thought it was MM. lol
i love them all
Justin what about brand new
Deer tick vibes
I like the bass drum sound a lot. The distorted and clean guitar tones are nice, you didn't shy away from that vibrato on the guitar. I don't know if your using flanger or whatever on that distortion but it sounds great.
