- The Mustangiest Mustang to Ever Mustang. MORD FUSTANG, FORD MUSTANG! The S197 Generation Mustang. The 3V V8 while not super powerful, was very healthy for the time and would serve as a worthy successor the to New Edge's 2V V8. Although the Coyote would later find itself thrust into the world in the S197 from 2011 onwards. Since then, History was made. The Coyote may go down in the Mustang's history as the "Final V8 Architecture" before it goes fully electric. I may make another Short on the S550, leave a comment below if you'd like to see that! Assuming you read this description of course. The Attention Span needed to read this, is longer than the short itself. Bless those who did!

@@gabe4952 13/14 ALL day long bro, you won’t regret it. The 07-09’s have great steel on the chassis’ but the power trains didn’t end well, 5 speed manual Tremecs are fantastic gearboxes but the 5R55S has slipping issues if you’re not completely rebuilding it and correcting factory limitations, waste of resources honestly. The newer platform is worth it for the 6R80 transmission alone, and the valve trains on the 3.7 and Gen 1, 2 and 3 coyotes stand up much better long term because the TiVCT enabled the deletion of EGR so they don’t gunk themselves with carbon prematurely, dual injection port and GDI helps prevent carbon deposits before they happen, treat them right and they keep themselves clean. Better in almost every way, it’s worth it man.

Agreed, that S197 era was something else. From the rebirth of the GT/CS, to the Shelby GT, Shelby GT-H, 2008 Bullitt, Shelby GT500, Shaker hood packages, hood pins, return of window louvers, deep dish bullet wheels, it was like the 1960’s in modern day.
I have a 2011 mustang with the 2014 tail lights its a perfect combo
Got a s197 Bullitt and it’s amazing everytime I ride
I still think the front of these looks better than the current gen. Rear lights have improved tho
Rear lights ended up perfect on the last two years of S197.
@@sammiches6859 Personally not a fan because it deviates too much from the 3-pane design for me but I do think it probably aged better to people who aren't as much of a purist as me
@@Wheagg I think it's fair to say they've only gotten less pure to the original, just like the S550 front end. Everything is thinner, and more angled.
@@sammiches6859 I like the S550 design because it uses the 3-pane design and sticks to it while also making it modern and brighter/clearer to other drivers
@@Wheagg They're not really panes though, because they're not very rectangular (like a window pane), and they're actually smaller than the past tail lights. So they might be brighter, but I don't think other drivers actually benefit from it. It's good Ford can maintain a fresh look for you though.

@sketchers I prefer hauling ass in a lightweight car that was supposed to go slow but was modified to go fast with as little change to the overall car as possible so it feels more exhilarating compared to a car that was made to go 180 mph from the factory.

@sketchers my mustang wasn’t light when it came out but nowadays it’s actually pretty trim. With some light mods I’d be fairly quick though it’s nice being able to use the 200 horsepower to its fullest

I have one too and I absolutely love it. Fast enough to be fun, looks great, reasonable on gas and affordable to maintain. Yesterday I got rear ended and the person drove off so now I have body damage on an otherwise good looking car. I'm still bummed about it.
Until the valves delete themselves like in mine sitting in the front yard. Big sad

I was in high school when the 05 retro style came back along with the Shelby and the GT.
The 13-14 S197s are literally perfect, they got a coyote & the best styling of any mustang

Can we talk about how reliable the s197 is too? I feel the 3.7 is criminally underrated, 305hp with pretty good reliability, sure it’s not v8 but it really does get the job done, and saves you some money even at the pump since it only takes Unleaded
My buddy has a 2012 V6. With a Roush exhaust and new headers it is LOUD. Not quite as fast as an s550/650, but it does sound and look really good.
I agree with you, the 4.6 2005-9 S197 is pure 70s retro, and as an original muscle car driver (1974 Camaro 355 ci Holly, Headers, Intake), my daily 2007 GT/CS is a blast from the past

Bought my wife a 06 tungsten grey mystang gt back in 2012 with 16k miles she just hit 80k in 2024..car is still mint condition with mods..i asked her in 2014 if she wanted to upgrade to the gt500 for that year model,she was already attached to the car that she didn't want to get rid of it...honestly in my opinion the s197 from 05-09 is the best looking mustang,maybe i just like classic square bodies but it retains classic styling..idk if its me but ive been next to a newer s197 in a parking lot at the store and compared the hight the newer s197 was taller and this was befor we had coil overs..but the goal for the car now is to coyote swap it..

People forget, that "retro" style actually started with the VW Beetle in '98 and then Ford retroed the T-Bird in '02 then the Mustang and Ford GT in '05. Then Dodge and Chevy joined in with the retro Challenger in '08 and the retro Camaro in '10. The whole retro thing has been played out and they all need new modern restyling. If they want to really make money on the retro thing, they should re-release the old bodies (ex. '67 fastback, '69 camaro, '69 challenger, '69 Charger, etc) and interiors but with upgraded safety and performance, in limited editions. Could you imagine walking into a dealer and buying a brand new factory '69 Camaro or '67 Mustang GT Fastback?

As a Mustang I'm fan, I'm going to give you the real story of what happened. GM killed the f-body and the Mustang dropped from four valves to three valves. The S 197s were slower than the Mach 1 and Cobra. SVT was making the next Cobra but Shelby and Ford patched things up so they slap Shelby's name on the 2007 Cobra. GM came back with the Camaro built off the GTO platform. Ford didnt have an answer for the LS3 until they put out the coyote. Which is a great engine. Also Ford hot rodded the gen 1 Coyote and dropped it into the Boss 302. The Boss 302 is arguably the best pony car of that generation next to the Z28 Camaro. The Z28 makes more horsepower naturally aspirated than the boss 302 but the has a stronger bottom end. Also Right before Carol Shelby died they released the last, "true", GT500 with a 5.8 Liter SC trinity motor. The Hellcat was a response to the 5.8 GT500.

Love them mustangs even more then the new ones because their looks resemble more of the classic style. Just gotta swap out the engine to a modern 5.0 coyote the newer mustangs got more power
