- Now that my Husqvarna Norden 901 mods are almost complete, it is time to take get out for a full Husqvarna Norden 901 off road test and adventure. For this adventure bike ride, I headed out to my old stomping grounds near Canyon Creek and was able to put together a very cool Norden 901 adventure featuring some rocky hill climbs, cool overlooks, Dork Mountain, Wolf Rock, and even an accidental Norden 901 drop while checking out a remote campsite. The Husqvarna Norden is a beast of a machine both on and off road and I'm continually impressed by how well it performs when you get off of the pavement. The Norden 901 is a fantastic adventure bike off road and it performs equally well when you're tearing up the highway twisties. After this thorough Norden off road test, I'm ready to take the 901 on the Washington BDR confident that this adventure motorcycle can handle anything that the trail throws at it.

Wow so amazing , I did a similar drop with my V Strom and had to walk 2 miles to get help after trying for awhile on my own lol . Added to the adventure :)
A possible 2nd choice (for you) would be to let the bike pivot on the handle bar end by pulling the tire in the direction you need. thanks dork

Yes, I agree! Great ride & thanks for sharing! lol at the bike lift. In 2015 i was parking my 1979 kaw ,kz650 & dumped it to the right with me on it. Adrenaline helped me pick it up right away only to throw it over the other direction as the kick stand wasnt down. fun times.

Definitely put that Dork ride together! Beautiful country. I want to come ride that area. I’ve been to Wllamette and Waldo Lake for a 100K foot race. I’d definitely like to see more of that country. It’s about an 8 hour drive for me, not too far but not a weekend trip.
I appreciate how quiet the bike is. Wait, did “I” just say that? Ya,… I love a nice pipe as much as the next person. Somehow, at least in my mind, if a small exhaust note helps others to hate us a little less, then I feel like I’m doing something to protect our riding privileges. But that’s not who I used to be.🙃

I have had that same experience on my 890 Adv R and it is a bear to get up. On a recent trip I dropped the bike 3 times. The first two I was able to lift it with great effort but on the third one I sprained my thumb and middle fingers and could not lift it. Fortunately one of my riding buddies came back and helped lift it because if I was solo I’d have been toast. I purchased the The Motorcycle Winch Motowinch LC2500 from Eastbound. It will lift the bike in that situation when you are solo. It was $252.74 with shipping via DHL from the Netherlands. I watched a few videos and that sold me. I ordered it on 6/18/22 and received it on 7/8/22 so be patient.
I have a suggestion that might help you out a bit for the technical stuff. On my 890Adv R, when I ride single track that is technical, I use Offroad ABS, Rally mode with adjustable slip (TC) from 1 to 9 and Street throttle mode. The Street throttle map has a much smoother response then the rally throttle, and still gives you all of the low end grunt to lessen the slow speed stalls. I set my slip at about 4-5, but that is a preference that you will have to find for yourself.

That Norden sure is a sweet machine. I ordered a Garmin Zumo XT after watching your video on it. Have been using it wired straight to the battery for a couple of months now. Just finished wiring it in to switched power this morning after waiting for a month for the special plug(came from Latvia on the slow boat) I needed to connect it to the R1200GS accessory plug on the harness. Should make it a bit more convenient not having to take it off everytime I shut the bike off.

LOL, I know the feeling of doing the waking towards kind of pick up and you get stuck on your knees. You've done most of the work against inertia then you just get stuck there.
such a delicate balance trying to get a big enough bike for the highway and a small enough bike for off-road at the same time. this one looks pretty close.
It's a blast off road. It's not that hard to pick up if you don't drop it on a hill ;)

Finally a video showing you picking up that beast. Imagine if you weren't able to drag it to a flat spot. Riding with people is no problem, but when your by yourself, you can get in trouble. I do think 450lbs is respectable for an adventure bike. I know you like the "ADV" class, however I would like to see you get a Husqvarna FE501. I believe that to be the replacement for my DR650. Maybe your DRZ also. When prices and supply stop being stupid, I think the 501 and an AT base model will fit nicely in my garage.
I'm not sure what the maintenance levels are on the DR650, but aren't they longer than the 501? That's a dirt bike with very short intervals.
@@TheMNB I should clarify, I'm talking about the FE501S with respectable reliability and Maintenance. Maintenance internals for the DR650 is once every 20yrs...lol...like most things, if you do the maintenence once the text is that much easier.
DR650 maintenance intervals are every 6000 miles. Street bike level intervals are typically 5000-7500 mile intervals.
FE501s is every 15 hrs, which even at 50mph avg, would be 750 miles. WAY more often.
I don't like the composite subframe on the 501, which is why I'm leaning very hard towards a KTM 500 EXC-F
@@DorkintheRoad Probably wouldn't go wrong with either. And at what skill level would the composite frame fail? The subframe on my 250xc is just 4 twigs of aluminum, yet it holds my 220lbs. I do hate the side ignition key on the Husky, WTF?

I don’t think you’re going to like the way that the front Dsport tire wears... The rear is a fantastic tire, and so is the front, but the front starts to wear all funky after a while... What was the temperature like up there today?
It's been in the mid to high 90's all week.
I agree, I have about 3000 miles on my set of d sports on my DRZ. The knobbies on the front are literally slanted sideways making the contact patch for each knob barley half what it should be

Linn Co Sherriff said it had been reported multiple times and they were trying to reach the owners to have them remove it, but it wasn't stolen. My suspicion is they got stuck up there in the snow and left it but for some reason haven't been back to get it. Super weird.

my son and i did the WA-BDR a few weeks ago and my 901 did great , 1 flat front tires plugged and made it home last day anyway , fasteners holding front fender backed out and zip ties sufficed until we got home but for the pounding it took for that to be all is a great sign///// my son rides a WR250R , my new favorite tire combo Motoz Dual Venture front & Rallzz rear.......... you dont ride it in 'explorer' mode all the time ??

Probably about the same on this hill. Maybe harder on flat ground. Depends on if you have crash bars on it and how wide they are.

The camera is fine. It's the RUclips encoding that causes the blurriness. Try a higher resolution
you need a smaller bike because you are getting older and out of shape, of course it happens to all of us, me included, I am 73 this last July 9th, I miss my klr 650,store for have a klr 250 and a suzuki GN400T turned into a dual sport bike
