Never heard anything like this! It is 3 chords and so simple. Yet the lyrics and structure of the song have an intense and pensive side. What joy to discover this Ray Price gem 💎
I had come to the conclusion that Ray and George Jones were tied for greatest living country singer for all those decades. This proves again that I'm right.
My favorite country music singer, and the standard by which all others are judged. He phrased his lyrics in a way to allow both the rasing and lowing of his voice to be on full display thereby picking up the richness and quality of his beautiful singing. His higher voice in the 1950s was wonderful but I prefer the deeper baritone of his voice in later times as he aged. Even in old age he could still put on a clinic of how you sing.
I watched the tribute to Ray on Country's Family Reunion with Janie Price and Bill Anderson and not one time did they mention SHORTY LAVENDER I was very disappointed That group of Musicians is what made Ray Price what he is today The best band he ever had was Buddy Emmons ,Pete Wade,Shorty Lavender,Jan Kurtis, and Johnny Paycheck.....(JLJ)
This type of Ray Price music(pre '70) still fills Texas dance floors every week end! Gut Bucket Texas Western Swing and Shuffle! This is what put him in the hall of fame! Others that come to mind were Johnny Manson, Jimmy Belkin, Big & Little Red Hayes, Wade Ray, & Keith Coleman. Now potna, that was HARDCORE!
1INSPECTORC2 Did you notice also that Ray's son is never mentioned, well I think once in the stupid program Johnny Bush might have said Ray was picking his son up at the airport. So many were not remembered, it's sad.
One of my favorite Price tunes. I really enjoy your fiddling on the Starday album by the Tommy Hill String Band. I've been a Starday fan since I was a kid and it's one of my favorites.
Boy love that music
AWESOME RAY

They say three chords and the truth!

This takes me back to the good old days of real country music. Great post.
CARL
My cousin, Pete Wade, on the lead guitar behind Shorty on the fiddle.
If I could only take half a dozen Price tracks to a desert island...this would one of them!

I bought it and it was a waste money, it was all her, not Ray.
Jacob Melton here Grover, love this song, I’m having a man make me a suit kinda like the one Ray’s wearing there
I forgot about this one. There are so many to remember.
A good one by Ray before the Nashville style took over.
