They did such a amazing job with Betelgeuse, he's such a creepy and monsterous character and that's the personality that they played very well. I was evan a bit terrified while watching this guy with his screen time. This music also highly influences the fact that Betelgeuse was meant to be and is a terrifying character. 10/10 character design

to me he looks like two different people got their facial expression turned into one photo, the eyes of an crying man in anguish and an insane person smiling.
If you divide his face into halves, you can actually see this very clearly. One side, his mouth smiles maniacally, while the other cries and frowns in despair.
Not to mention the smile is split into two different shapes by the bright orange highlighs, making it all the more creepy when you realize there’s a full smile there.

He diligently followed orders, always acting first in various situations, causing his name to be well known. A hundred years earlier, Petelgeuse was a moderate, upright and rational man. He was a close friend of Fortuna and Emilia, enough to be described as being like a family. However, when Regulus and Pandora attacked their village, he accidentally killed Fortuna through Pandora's power which combined with the damage he received when taking in the Witch Factors of Sloth which he wasn't compatible with, causing him to go mad.

Majestic Taleb You know that actually makes lots of sense. Kinda like Cyro Stasis where your asleep inside a type of Freezing chamber, like Ice. The memory part though, people who awaken from Cyro Stasis take a while to get memories back but they end up getting them back somewhat and the Re:Zero movie showed her remembering some of it, we even saw a flash of Petelgeuse in the movie. I don’t know if that was her remembering or just so we the viewers could get a hint of what happened back when she froze a lot of things.

Petelgeuse was a Sin Archbishop of Sloth, so powerful and so diligent he could use the Unseen Hand to influence the physical world to destroy matter without a single touch... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even take another person's body to avoid dying. The witch factor is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing Fortuna, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he mistook her for Pandora, the witch of Vanity, and then stabbed her through her heart... It's ironic he took on the power of sloth to save the day, but diligently used it to destroy those he cared about. Will edit with possible suggestions.

He lost everything along with those people, it's his diligence to them and dependence on them that drove him mad after the loss of them. The only sloth is is his failure to improve or atone.

Also, there is a scene in arc 5 (Minor spoilers) where Subaru realizes the archbishops are named after stars from Earth, and said he hadn't realized before since Petelgeuse was a variation of Betelgeuse, the star. Ironically, Betelgeuse was the leader of the moderate part within the Cult of The Witch, after his death, this part was extinguished leaving only the radical. Betelgeuse was also responsible for fifty percent of the Cult's activities.
Having a gospel comes with the perk of having knowledge of the future assuming Subaru doesn't just change the future written in the book with his time traveling hack. Subaru is the only one who can take down the witch cult archbishops do to his ability beating out each of their gospels predictions of the future. Even the strongest character Reinhard is powerless against the cult if he isn't at the right place at the right time to fight the witch cult so a guy like Subaru is necessary to create that opportunity for the strong characters to do their thing and kill off the archbishops.
Puck: *You're a hero Reinhard, and a hero is all you can be* Reinhard: *If you want to resent somebody, then please resent me* God that hit so fcking hard, a hero like Reinhard can never be on the right time before a tragedy befalls on them. You can definitely feel the more cinematic and epic nuances of Rezero's OST when they put all the vocal choirs on it. They went the extra measure for it's impactful feel that it feels in place with a JRPG. It's also great to hear they did the same for the OST on Season 2.

Actually, there's a different song that plays when he first chases Subaru with his unseen hands carrying him. That last song plays when he chases Subaru in his "last form" (it's also shared with the White Whale).

If you really want to blame anyone, blame Regulus and Pandora. Regulus was the reason why he inherited the witch factor of sloth, and Pandora was the reason was the reason why Geuse went crazy.
I remember when I first heard this play I felt nauseous (because of what was happening in the show), and to be honest I still get a little uneasy when I hear it.
Satella went mad from the witch factor, Minerva died insane in a trap, Camilla burned to nothing in a great fire, Daphne wasted to death in a sea of sand, Typhon drowned in a flood, Sekhmet fell down the Great Cascade as she decimated the Dragon, Echidna gathered their souls and yet remains bound to the present world in soul only

Poor poor Geuse I hope he can reunite with Fortuna one day. Spoilers: His soul is still trapped in Subaru hopefully Subaru purifies it and brings back the good old Geuse would love to see him and Subaru team up to fight Pandora in the end.

He couldnt purify it. Petelgeuse wasnt corrupted by anything. He simply went insane. He is mentally ill and nothing subaru does can fix it. Much like if subaru's mind were to break, even if he died as many times as he wanted it would never be fixed.
All archbishops are fucking sick in the head literally. Betelgeuse was one of the more reasonable ones considering people like Capella exists. Hopefully we will see her in season 3

They did such a amazing job with Betelgeuse, he's such a creepy and monsterous character and that's the personality that they played very well. I was evan a bit terrified while watching this guy with his screen time. This music also highly influences the fact that Betelgeuse was meant to be and is a terrifying character.

If you divide his face into halves, you can actually see this very clearly. One side, his mouth smiles maniacally, while the other cries and frowns in despair.
Not to mention the smile is split into two different shapes by the bright orange highlighs, making it all the more creepy when you realize there’s a full smile there.
Petelgeuse: His principles of living consist of diligence and love, his reason for living to prove that. His love for Satella was the largest among the Sin Archbishops. He diligently followed orders, always acting first in various situations, causing his name to be well known.
A hundred years earlier, Petelgeuse was a moderate, upright and rational man. He was a close friend of Fortuna and Emilia, enough to be described as being like a family. However, when Regulus and Pandora attacked their village, he accidentally killed Fortuna through Pandora's power which combined with the damage he received when taking in the Witch Factors of Sloth which he wasn't compatible with, causing him to go mad.

Majestic Taleb You know that actually makes lots of sense. Kinda like Cyro Stasis where your asleep inside a type of Freezing chamber, like Ice.
The memory part though, people who awaken from Cyro Stasis take a while to get memories back but they end up getting them back somewhat and the Re:Zero movie showed her remembering some of it, we even saw a flash of Petelgeuse in the movie. I don’t know if that was her remembering or just so we the viewers could get a hint of what happened back when she froze a lot of things.

Also, there is a scene in arc 5 (Minor spoilers) where Subaru realizes the archbishops are named after stars from Earth, and said he hadn't realized before since Petelgeuse was a variation of Betelgeuse, the star. Since it's explicitely stated, I think it's obious Tappei intentionally wrote ペ (pe) instead of ベ (be).

Without a doubt, one of the most tragic characters.
Having a gospel comes with the perk of having knowledge of the future assuming Subaru doesn't just change the future written in the book with his time traveling hack. Subaru is the only one who can take down the witch cult archbishops do to his ability beating out each of their gospels predictions of the future. Even the strongest character Reinhard is powerless against the cult if he isn't at the right place at the right time to fight the witch cult so a guy like Subaru is necessary to create that opportunity for the strong characters to do their thing and kill off the archbishops.
Gospel doesn't show the future. It only gives owner directions to acheve the future They want.

You can definitely feel the more cinematic and epic nuances of Rezero's OST when they put all the vocal choirs on it. They went the extra measure for it's impactful feel that it feels in place with a JRPG. It's also great to hear they did the same for the OST on Season 2.

If you really want to blame anyone, blame Regulus and Pandora. Regulus was the reason why he inherited the witch factor of sloth, and Pandora was the reason was the reason why Geuse went crazy.
I remember when I first heard this play I felt nauseous (because of what was happening in the show), and to be honest I still get a little uneasy when I hear it.
