SNL and "Me Al Franken" was a prominent source of entertainment during my scholastic career; while Dave's 33 years tracks closely with my 34 year working career. And now, as I slide into my dotage, you have combined to put a smile on my face once again.
It’s really humbling to listen to arguably the two most formative forces in contemporary American comedy interview each other; each one in tune with the other at all times. Thanks, both of you.
Missing Al Franken in the Senate so great at asking questions and satire. Enjoyed this conversation with Dave Letterman very much thanks. You are coming to my town tomorrow but I am sadly staying away because of Covid. Praying you stay healthy on your tour.
I laughed out loud many times during this broadcast! I miss both of you. I was a faithful watcher of Late Night and totally enjoy your Netflix interviews Dave. I love that you interviewed each other. Thanks so much. Happy 2022 to you guys. 😊
this is a jewel of an interview. loving that David letterman can hijack what is supposedly an interview of him and how he turns it to an interview of al.
I've lost track of how many times I laughed out loud during this conversation... Thank You, Al (& David) for the brilliance & silliness... Happy New Year to You Both! Here's to 2022!
Recall in the mid to late 70's: because I worked at night, I taped letterman and SNL on my Betamax! Both of you defined comedy for me and many others! Still do! Love you both!
If you had a Betamax, then you are indeed an elder geek. God, I wanted one of those back then and was broke. By the time I had the income VHS was already in ascendance and ultimately I guess I'm glad a ended up choosing VHS just because of its ubiquity. I wasn't always lucky choosing formats, I can't tell you how much I spent on quadraphonic tapes, records and the machines to play them. I applaud your taste in funny and in early video formats.
Could listen to Al and Dave tell stories all night. Wish they had talked about Norm McDonald. I know Norm was one of Dave's favorite guests and would love to hear Al's Norm stories from SNL.
I loved Letterman’s Stupid Human and Pet Tricks! I distinctly remember the lady who shot milk out her tear ducts and the guy with climbing guinea pigs. 🥰🐹🥂🍾 great interview. Thanks Al. - Hopkins, MN
Been with you all those years Dave. I’m a Indpls native. Watched you every night when you did the channel 13 weather. 😂😍😆I’m 71 so you can see how your humor effected us oldsters. My daughter is a 1996 Ball State graduate. I too finally got out of Indy. She’s been out since 1997. Your an all time favorite and I’ve enjoyed following your humor and stories over the years. Thank you for being yourself all these years. 🌟💕🥰
When I was 8 years old, 1987, my parents allowed me to stay up late one night. They were watching the news then The Tonight Show came on. I was bored with the show until a commercial appeared announcing that after, Michael J Fox was gonna be a guest on Late Night with David Letterman. Being a big Back to the Future fan, I was curious about what it was. When it Late Night started, a completely different interest overtook me. Who is this goofy host?! Adults can act like that, wear sneakers with a suit of two colors?! What is this show?! In my city?! For the next 28 years of my life, I would become a completely devoted watcher and audience member. Thanks Dave for changing my life!
hiya Al.. was so nice to meet you.. you stopped when you kept saying you had to go yet you stopped when i said Hey Al and we shook hands.. you were in a hurry had to catch your ride outta Ithaca.. Happy New Year to you and yours with hope for all.. xo
When I was in high school, I was up one Saturday evening working on something. I had the TV on but wasn’t really paying attention but then a show in a very bare bones set( almost warehouse like) came on. They started off by saying that they were trying a new type of show, and they hope we will enjoy. Then they started to do some skits etc. and I thought they were terrible. I thought I had seen better skits at camp so I turned it off and went to bed. Later I heard about a new comedy show that everyone one was raving about. I realized then I had turned off the very first SNL. And that’s how I realized I would never be an influencer. I was right on that one. 😉
Around 9/11 this year I listened to Howard Stern's broadcast from that day. There was a striking moment where he asked someone "what's the date today?" As if this wasn't a monumental date in history that everyone knows. Which of course it wasn't at the time. But that was the last year anybody would ever need to ask that question.
@ 50: then why, why, why did you leave us when we needed you so badly, Al? we sure could use some Al Franken right now in this insane Congress. I'm still mad at you for leaving. (kinda. I can't stay mad at you.)
It seems to me that there are styles of humor preferred in particular areas of the country/world. You both share a mid-western style which is widely enjoyed. Have you found that some geographic areas respond differently to the same material?
Really enjoyed the discussion with David! Laughed many times as old memories came back into view. Al, thanks for mentioning Paul S., now I really should re-watch Spinal Tap featuring Paul as Artie Fufkin. P.S. ~12 interruptions for YT commercials of up to 3 minutes each. Listened only to Neil deGrasse Tyson's "MasterClass" pitch.
@@12dreams Thanks for that info. Unfortunately, wife and I watch on an internet enabled TV and there's not much facility to install apps that would remove the YT-malware/Adds of which >99.874% are of no interest to us. I could launch YT on my notebook with AdBlock installed then cast to TV--That would work... Thanks again...
Listened to Bob and Ray's show on WOR Radio New York: "'Mary Backstage, Noble Wife' - Brought to you by the United States Govermnent - Maker of Stamps."
But David, why Kim Kardashian? What could you possibly learn from her? It’s the popularity gauge from Netflix… I’m sorry that you had to do that to remain relevant. I love you Dave, from CT and the Merritt parkway, in particular! 😂
Very good interview Al and yes we want you to get back into politics but please don't abandon your comedy career again, with the political climate the way it is on the right nowadays, comedy and politics goes together like two peas in a pod.
SNL and "Me Al Franken" was a prominent source of entertainment during my scholastic career; while Dave's 33 years tracks closely with my 34 year working career. And now, as I slide into my dotage, you have combined to put a smile on my face once again.
How perfect is this! Al Franken and David Letterman talking about Bob and Ray. Thank you for this joyful moment.
It’s really humbling to listen to arguably the two most formative forces in contemporary American comedy interview each other; each one in tune with the other at all times. Thanks, both of you.
Congrats on your extended tour plus it doesn’t get much better than Al Franken and David Letterman together. Thanks for the blast from the bast🙏

Run for the Senate again, Al. Great program.
Great interview of Al Franken by David Letterman. 😅
This is one of Al Franken's best podcasts! Thanks!
Thank you🙏 David Letterman.
I cannot stand seeing Dave as a senior. I just want to cry. Miss Dave.
Having grown up with both of you, late nights in the 80s after 2nd shift, great interview. The slow talking and patience of David.

That was the best hour+ plus I've spent for a lo-o-o-o-ng time - thanks a gazillion Al and Dave, thoroughly enjoyed that. 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks to AL and David for making me literally laugh out loud. I hope you two do it again. A side effect is now my wife knows you're still alive.
One of your best interviews Al, thanks
Thank you 🙏 Al
No better way to start a new year than with these two and laughter! Happy New Year 2022!
In the Immortal Words of David Letterman;
“There is No Off Position on the Genius Switch”!
I would love if both of these men came back into the public realm, and maybe even consider a run for office!

Cool podcasts, Al. Having video along with audio would be so much better on the Tube though.
The Supreme interviewer interviewing the Supreme interviewer - excellence!
I might not have left Mpls. had Dave been doing the weather.

Just two great comedy guys. Al, I think you got jobbed, we need you back in Washington
Thank you so much for the big smile on my face!
One of my favorite late night segments was the late late show where Al Franken and Ben Stein dubbed Frank'n'stein. Now I enjoy franken podcast...
Good show,I’m gonna call you Al cause your name is Al.Smiled the whole show, thanks

This was a really good one, for a change.
Congratulations on the extension of your tour!
All of your pod cast are good this is definitely one of your better Thanks Dave and you Happy New Years
I miss both of you. Happy Holidays to you both. 😀💕
I met Belushi at the urinal in a western bar in Co., the SNL crew were out in the Winnebago. It was Belushi's wedding at Hunter's
Neat that you're extending the tour.
Thank you Al, this was a great conversation-interview.
“Weather enthusiasts.” LOL
I remember when Dave's daytime show on NBS was bumped for SCOTUS Chief Justice John Roberts confirmation hearings.
Al Franken I wish you would run in the next presidential election. You know how to reach across the aisle to get things done.
@@12dreams He'll be shot by a cannon? Novel way to get rid of the worst EX-president in history but I like it.
@@12dreams Little joke , very little I guess, but great, we can light the match together.
Love that Al and Dave swapped interviewer and interviewee roles.
Huntington, NY. Graduated from high school there. '71 Romps. I will look at the dates. Good excuse to visit my sister. 👍
Dropped quite a few names I almost forgot about--terrific hour!
Bob & Ray paved the way, the guys on Car Talk are good to.
I see there are RUclips videos of Dave's first monologue after 9/11. I really enjoyed this interview. Thank you.
One of the best, Al!
...for a change....... 😊
Steve Allen was The Human Teabag. He also jumped into a giant bowl of Jello...with whipped cream.
Yes, all seven of us think you should run for president!
Looking forward to seeing you in Santa Barbara!
Maybe one of the best interviews/mutual interview at the same time in the history of broadcasting
Could have won Grammy...emmy and Peabody award
Throughly enjoyed this

Yeah, there's too many ads. I often wonder if it would be worth the extortion prices of YT No Ads, but dammit, I'm a cheap Norwegian with Scot blood.

That was great!
Yanet Garcia never needed training as a meteorologist 😂 🤣
It was a 'good one,' albeit an old one that didn't work at the time but mellowed and aged like vinegar into wine.
Love Bob and Ray.
Great podcast!!
That guy sounds just like Letterman!
Glad to hear you’re extending your tour. I just wish you had the stones to come south,
Merry Day After Christmas!🎄🎅🎸☮❤
Dave s doing the interview
Hey Al! When you coming to Seattle?
I'd like to see Al fight Joe Manchin.
How about a 3rd show in Livermore? The other two are sold out (the only sold out shows?)
Bob and Ray! 🤗

Chris Eliot, the mayor of Schitt’s Creek!

Congratulation on your extended tour but what the hell do have against Arizona Al?
In one of the reddest states, he might not make it out! I love AZ for visits but the local govt is mostly trumpanzee.
I'd like to see a Bottom Ten list of the worst writers David Letterman has fired.
David Letterman is enjoying his retirement at a ranch in Montana far and away from the hustle and bustle of big cities.
Looks like they did edit it to make David Letterman seem funny by adding that recording of Al laughing every so often!
Ouch. Top 10 zingers.
