People hate Christians because they had a bad experience with someone who is Christian. The thing is, why do you hate on a Christian band for preaching at their show. You came to see them, they came to perform. If they want to preach that is part of THEIR set list and THEIR beliefs. You don't have to listen, and they aren't forcing you to convert. I like this guy. I listen to For Today quite a lot, I just find it very motivational, inspirational, positive and strong...plus the lyrics, with the word of Christ in them. God~bless you Mattie, really cool to just read and hear of your story. Honestly it's helped me in alot of ways. Peace.
I wrote Derek Carr, the QB for the Oakland Raiders and asked if He'd pray for my boy and use His platform to draw some attention to Jacob's issue so that many would pray. Mattie and Derek are "friends" and instead of hearing from Mr Carr, I got a letter from Mattie telling me I was disgusting and that I don't need a QB to hold my hand, I could pray on my own. Wow, it blew me away.... My boy is 11 years old and in heart failure. He has aortic stenosis, JRA, Pineal gland failure and 2 holes in His heart. He's scheduled for open heart surgery this December, 2 days after Christmas. It's open heart surgery. They are going to cut my son open, split His rib cage, stop His heart and put Him on life support while they remove and repair 2 valves. Place Him in a coma and restart His heart and put Him back together. All of that done, the arthritis may very well attack His new valves and put him right back into failure. I may very well lose my Son in the next several months at 11 years old. But I'm disgusting because I stressed out the professional Quarterback by asking Him to pray. He's a busy man after all. Yeah, I think Mattie just had his eyes on Mr Carr's money and wants to keep His cash cow protected. I NEVER asked Derek Carr for a dime. Only for prayer and if He could raise awareness to get others praying using His platform. I wouldn't have even asked that but I saw Him declaring His faith and preaching at a local Church. I learned my lesson. The wealthy, famous and powerful worship one god but the poor and the powerless serve Christ. I have had more help and more of an outpouring of blessings on us from the poor and disabled that from any so called Christian that's wealthy or in a position of Fame. This guy is so inspiring. And the cool thing about him and his band is that the grenre (spelled that wrong) is that it is a mixture of rock(or metal) and christianity. Something I hope for a long time ago to exist. And here there are!!
This has inspired me. I wanted to comment on some of the confused individuals focusing on one point of the interview instead of focusing on the glory of our Lord.
i met him the day i decided that i didn't want to be alone anymore. when i realized that I couldn't pull my own weight. if you really want to know when i met god, it was when i had nowhere else to go, and i needed a reason to live. you can go ahead and laugh all you want. i've said my piece.
Given the aspiration of many, people don't pay attention to the signs given by God. He doesn't say soccer is sin, it is an indiscreet message of how and why Mattie got started. Soccer wasn't sin, it was his sign to go after God, and everything his goodness has to offer.
I like to think of the rough points in life like this Im a peice of wood and im being smoothed out by something abrasive (sandpaper or something of that sort) Its sad how many christians think that god isnt there when things get rough.

He means it's sin in his situation. Because if he feels like God chose a different path for him from soccer, if he carried on trying to make it as a soccer player then it would be sin cos he would be going against God's word. they aren't preach at you, they're preaching to you. To us Christians the Gospel is amazing news. We want everybody to hear it. We aren't throwing that at you, we're GIVING it to you. I hope that you're mind is changed that they don't want to convert you instantly, they want to plant that seed in you.
You do have the right to be passionate. And if people will listen then great, start a blog, band, be a politician, or whatever and try to spread knowledge and awareness about whatever you want. Mattie is preaching to people that spent money to come listen to him and his band that ONLY writes music to glorify god and show their passion for him. They should expect religion to be a topic throughout the show.

It's not that soccer is sin. It's that soccer was preventing him from living in christ and was what absorbed him, and he came to realization that he should absorb himself in God's word and the love of Christ.

I get what you are saying. See i hated that Christian bands threw there religion at the crowd, but then i went to a For Today concert, and Mattie started to "preach" or tell us what he believes and how serious and real he was about it. I then realized that he is not up there singing for the crowd, or fame, or even himself, He was up there singing to someone much more important to that. And if Mattie can stand up there and do that i knew there must have been more to his "religion" than others....
If his dream isn't to be in For Today, but to spread the word of God and be in God's will, he should take a different path in the way of God, and let someone who's dream IS music, to be in For Today. Just a thought.

Mattie is so chill. I've meet him backstage back when Mike and David were still around I got some autographs too, but yah, Mattie is super chill.

It's great to hear his story. It gives me comfort because I also left college soccer to preach the gospel. Great inspiration from a great man of God.

exactly this local band Shook Like Dead Men was what changed my mind on religion and i was probly a horrible person before then.. i was on drugs drinking and i just wasnt a good guy but i found Christ and not im sober goin on a yr now
God gives different opportunities to different people. It's not our place to completely understand. And the thing is, humans are given free will. God wants people to choose him. But He wants them to do it of their own accord.

because when I went to tours, It feels like to me that people are shoving hatred down my throat for being a Christian but they weren't, I was out of place with the society there. Same with you. But dude here's one thing, God does exist but doesn't mean you don't have to believe in Him but He exists because of what I have experience in my rough life before I got saved. but if you don't want to talk about this anymore, I understand and have a good day. :)
they aren't preach at you, they're preaching to you. To us Christians the Gospel is amazing news. We want everybody to hear it. We aren't throwing that at you, we're GIVING it to you. I hope that you're mind is changed that they don't want to convert you instantly, they want to plant that seed in you.

You do have the right to be passionate. And if people will listen then great, start a blog, band, be a politician, or whatever and try to spread knowledge and awareness about whatever you want. Mattie is preaching to people that spent money to come listen to him and his band that ONLY writes music to glorify god and show their passion for him. They should expect religion to be a topic throughout the show.
btw, we're not fighting, we're having a spirited debate about things that truly matter. so it's not useless for us to go back and forth but for you to make the assumption that what we're doing/saying is useless is just plain ignorant
Mattie is actually a pretty chill dude, and he is just stating what he believes what others should do. You don't have to listen to him, eh? I don't listen to the artists in other groups who say partying is the answer to everything, but I still enjoy the music. I hope you get to experience Jesus in your life man, but I'm not TELLING you to do anything. Other people have different beliefs, and that's the truth. So don't condemn the man, if you don't like him, don't listen to his words. Peace.

Bro it's ok that you don't believe Jesus still loves you that's the beauty of it! Being filled with the holy spirit cannot be faked if you have ever seen the true and pure emotion someone displays when they are filled with the Spirit you would think differently everyone feels the same thing and describes it the same. And i have seen ppl be healed from addictions and bondage that seemed humanly impossible to escape... all under the name of Jesus.

Well I just so happen to agree with that statement. They should not be supported for what they believe, they should be supported for the music they make. If they want to be supported for their beliefs they should share them in a church.
Nope, he wanted something to love. But he allowed sin to take place in order for us to be able to choose to love him. He did not want a world full of mindless God-serving people. All I can say is Jesus is a super cool dude if you get to know him. Hes brought me out of depression and into life. So make the choice for yourself my man.

I get what you are saying. See i hated that Christian bands threw there religion at the crowd, but then i went to a For Today concert, and Mattie started to "preach" or tell us what he believes and how serious and real he was about it. I then realized that he is not up there singing for the crowd, or fame, or even himself, He was up there singing to someone much more important to that. And if Mattie can stand up there and do that i knew there must have been more to his "religion" than others....

If his dream isn't to be in For Today, but to spread the word of God and be in God's will, he should take a different path in the way of God, and let someone who's dream IS music, to be in For Today. Just a thought.
If Mattie is allowed to be passionate, do I not have that right as well? And yes if people WANT to hear my opinions than I'm an open book, but I'm not standing there in public (more or less) and telling people how they should live their lives, else wise I would treat them with the same respect I have for August Burns Red, Miss May I, As I Lay Dying ,etc.
....I knew that this God he worshiped had to be real. I talked to him about it later and knew i wanted whatever it was he had. That night I excepted Christ as my Savior from a eternal damnation to Hell. All I had to do was let my guard down and except Christ. I was changed forever after that. and its crazy, because I now see the point in why Mattie preaches to us through word, and through song! Because there are so many that want something to believe in but dont know what it is. Thats y he does!

dude you totally missed the point. He's not shoving his beliefs down your throat he's giving you an option. I'm christian and I hate when Christian's criticize others man. You want to be agnostic go right on ahead man I won't stop you. It's your life, but don't hate on Mattie because he tells his story, or even if he talks about religion. It's the path he chose not your's. Live your life the way you want to live, but don't be pissed at others for doing the same thing with different perspective
actually i was raised christian and later opened my mind to the possibility of other beliefs, and because of that I have my OWN beliefs not adhering to one religion in particular, but to many. I just find it rude to speak about religion at a concert because it's not the main reason why people go. but I mightve got a little more angry at him than i should have ill admit
Im aware this is an old comment but I just wanted to say that Ive seen For Today live and yes they did preach a lot but if thats how they want to go about their performance then great for them. If you had an opportunity to get your opinion across to hundreds of fans a night wouldn't you in hopes that they might take something positive away from you? Even if you don't agree with their message or what im saying understand that doesnt make Mattie an "asshole" or a "douchbag" it makes him passionate

I wrote Derek Carr, the QB for the Oakland Raiders and asked if He'd pray for my boy and use His platform to draw some attention to Jacob's issue so that many would pray. Mattie and Derek are "friends" and instead of hearing from Mr Carr, I got a letter from Mattie telling me I was disgusting and that I don't need a QB to hold my hand, I could pray on my own. Wow, it blew me away.... My boy is 11 years old and in heart failure. He has aortic stenosis, JRA, Pineal gland failure and 2 holes in His heart. He's scheduled for open heart surgery this December, 2 days after Christmas. It's open heart surgery. They are going to cut my son open, split His rib cage, stop His heart and put Him on life support while they remove and repair 2 valves. Place Him in a coma and restart His heart and put Him back together. All of that done, the arthritis may very well attack His new valves and put him right back into failure. I may very well lose my Son in the next several months at 11 years old. But I'm disgusting because I stressed out the professional Quarterback by asking Him to pray. He's a busy man after all. Yeah, I think Mattie just had his eyes on Mr Carr's money and wants to keep His cash cow protected. I NEVER asked Derek Carr for a dime. Only for prayer and if He could raise awareness to get others praying using His platform. I wouldn't have even asked that but I saw Him declaring His faith and preaching at a local Church. I learned my lesson. The wealthy, famous and powerful worship one god but the poor and the powerless serve Christ. I have had more help and more of an outpouring of blessings on us from the poor and disabled that from any so called Christian that's wealthy or in a position of Fame. We tried Third Day, Casting Crowns, MercyMe and many others. We were ignored by every last one of them. But only Mattie decided to publically declare that we were disgusting...

He's not shoving his belief down anyones throat homie. I personally have different beliefs. But i respect him calling out to all the kids that have Christ in their hearts, and that have felt like because of their music taste, have been outcasted. Whether the music makes your balls tingle, or the vocals hit your heart. The dude just wants to spread the love. (plus if your that offended by someone talking about Jesus.. why would you go see For Today in the first place..) Just sayin, Open your mind
