  • I do a lot of engine work and what that means, is that I'm constantly pulling engines out of, and putting engines back into all these bikes!
    Here are a few of the main tools I use in my shop that make doing this job by yourself much easier. Removing a motorcycle engine isn't necessarily difficult but engines are heavy and awkward, so making your life and job easier is always a good thing.

    I'm putting engine in a 1996 Suzuki bandit gsf600 and a 1985 Yamaha maxim xj700. I removed both motors by myself with 3 cinder blocks and and basic hand tools and a car floor jack lol. I removed the engines fairly easy.installing both new engines is making me a little nervous lol. Hope it's not too much harder than removing them

      How did the installing go on your 96 bandit? I have a 01 bandit 600 and i put a engine in and last week was my first time cranking it and it fired right up. Now I’m in the process of ordering and putting the last few things into place so I can ride legally lol

    i've just recently installed my own chain and tires for the first time, so i'm feeling all super manly and everything, but if you have any more tips i'd certainly appreciate it.
    i really would have liked to see you install the engine. i'm about to install one myself in a 2018 Kawa Z900. do you think that's something a newb like me should attempt?

      You've watched this video so you know it's going to take some specific tools or at the very least a buddy with some muscle. If you haven't already, find the service manual for your bike before starting and read the section in engine installation first to make sure you know what you're getting into. It's not hard, it's just complicated if you've never done it. But if you have common sense and a decent grasp of basic mechanics, popping an engine into a bike really isn't that hard. :) I think you can do it! But maybe make use of a friend who might have more knowledge if you're just not sure.
      If you have questions please ask! I'd be happy to help if I can!

    Hello, I have to replace the engine to my 2008 VTX 1800T. Do you think the set up you have would work for this motorcycle engine? Larry Shea has a youtube video using two "poles"(?) [I don't know the technical name] to remove the 300+lbs engine. Also, can you give me an estimate as to how much I'm looking to spend on specifically engine removing tools? Thank you so much!

    • @MotoMedic
      @MotoMedic  2 года назад

      Absolutely. The lift I'm using in the video is made to lift the entire motorcycle. It can hold over 1000 pounds.

    Another question. How easy is it to replace engines for Chinese bikes since most of them share similar bodies and chassis?

      Probably similar to most modern bikes. Relatively easy 👍

    I just got an engine swap yesterday and I took my bike home (2013 zx6r 636). However, the throttle and engine braking feels much more rougher like more violent than before. It's not smooth like before. Is that normal? Will it smooth out later on its own? The new swap engine had less than 2,500 miles on it.

    • @MotoMedic
      @MotoMedic  Год назад +1

      Hard to say. I'd ask the mechanic who did the swap about it.

    • @MotoMedic
      @MotoMedic  3 года назад

      No. But make sure if you're swapping different years into different bikes that they are 100% compatible. Sometimes even a couple of years can mean completely different ECU. Make sure they are the exact same to insure it'll be plug and play.

    Is it possible to change the engine of a Tarogp 250 and replace it with that of a 400cc? Or Lexmoto 125 to Lexmoto 400?

    • @MotoMedic
      @MotoMedic  2 года назад

      Being that those are Chinese I really wouldn't know. My immediate guess would be no... But that doesn't mean a lot since I don't know the specs of these bikes. Bottom line is.... If the engine blocks are the same, but stroke and bore are different, making the displacement more, then possibly. But not without complete wiring harness and ecu.

    • @MotoMedic

      That's a good question... Haven't had to pull that engine before. But generally... You will want to make sure the engine is sitting on something then just disconnect anything holding it in place.

      @@LittleHuckabee swapping an engine with a totally different brand is not something that is ever easily done. It's far more than just swapping the engine. You're also swapping the ECU and wiring harness. Then there's the challenge of figuring out how to get the stuff for a different bike/engine to fit and nicely rout all of the wires.
      If you want a different engine, the easiest way to change that is to sell your bike and buy a different one. There is no easy way to do it. Not without A LOT of modification.
