    Before you get much older sir
    That way we can still keep doing what you love to do that keeps you doing

      I'm a lot more careful than I use to be, just to preserve my back. See way too many young guys with back problems. That's one reason I fish a lot of bigger mesh nets these days. Easier to get in. Thanks for watching!!

    I wonder how many people know why you keep the big flat head cats and throw back the big blues? Also, I've never used a hoop net, only wire nets and I was wondering if the hoop net stays open because of the river current or do you have to put tension on the mouth end? Will they work in a still water lake?

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  Год назад +2

      They will work in still water lakes for flatheads. The video I'm releasing next week will show some of that. That being said there is certain depths we fish in fall along side the channels. In spring time we fish the hoop nets in lakes in about 8 foot of water off the banks. Them flatheads will go in there to nest. Sometimes if a female goes in on a still water lake, you may have 5 or more fish in that net. You anchor one end, then stretch it open, weighting the headline with weights. I use old window weights

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  Год назад +1

      In current yes. We only fish smaller nets vertical, and in no current. Bigger hoop nets are fished horizontal either on bottom or suspended in the water column. Hope this helps!!

    Keep those videos coming, really enjoy watching you guys. I've only been fishing hoop nets for a few years and still learning, I like to fish areas like you had your nets in this video, a little off the bank. Whats something I should look for when finding new places to set out nets? Bottom structure and stuff like that. Any pointers would be appreciated, I fish the Pearl river around Monticello Ms.

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  2 года назад +2

      Lot of fish caught on the pearl. Fishing will pick up about the time Dogwoods bloom. April and May are always good for us. You just got to move them around till you hit those magic spots. You want to be fishing just in the edges of that good current. I like spots where river bank is coming in straight, and the current is washing the bank out right before a bend. Feel the bottom out and find those little drop offs. You want clean bottoms, but set your anchors so your net will roll right back in those 1st or 2nd drop offs.

    My son tried them gasper goo a while back and from the waters we live on they just as good as any other fish that comes from it. They a drum just like the saltwater drum everybody goes so crazy for and as long as they’re not over 8 pounds we don’t have any problem eating em. When they get bigger they tend to get a lot of worms
