@@saikyoDRAGON well it's a bit exaggerated because the shot is clearly from a distance with very high zoom, which basically shrinks the image and makes everything look closer together than it actually is. But yeah you wouldnt really see something look this in other metro systems because
1. This is above ground so it has to follow streets in the block system
2. The trains travel very slowly regardless because this is downtown where there is a stop every two blocks leaving no time to speed up, so its not worth it to demolish buildings to make smoother curves considering that the trains wont be moving fast enough to take advantage of them anyway.
I’ve ridden the brown line from the kimball station to downtown at least 100 times. Never really paid attention enough to notice these awesome tracks. Great video. 👍

Flavio Lau probably because of how the train cars are small to accommodate sharp curves, how slow it is on the elevated downtown tracks, and otherwise how low tech it is
@@flaviolau4610 Japanese liked this is form train's in subway. I'm Russian by national)
God knows who came up with that system, so much infrastructure for what appears to be a very slow service.
A subway would have been the better choice!
It's not even slow at all. And there is a subway system that goes under which heads farther south.
It was built by private money in the 1890s; they had to live within the existing street grid, which sometimes meant turns with about a 110 ft radius; they didn't have much money; there were stops every quarter mile so speed wasn't that big an issue; and this is one of the busier rail junctions in the world, hardly a place to try for hi speed.
Other than that...
It may have become such a system because it was a substitute for a tram.

Love this video, was very fun to watch.
Wow, those curves are very sharp. I wonder what it feels like to be on board.
Its quite a rush as they take it at speed, the curve in the far distance is banked, so the trains lean in and out through it. I lived in Chicago for 20 years and remember when they replaced the old S curve with that high speed run through it made a lot of people nervous as heck the first few weeks. There is a video of it on youtube just type in "Harrison st. curve reconstruction" to find it. Cheers from the USA, I hope to one day make it "Down Under". :-)
Thank you for watching.

I was like what the hell?
The location is Wabash Avenue south of Adams Street. This view is shortened in a way which is absolutely freaky. I don't know if it was the lens or due to what was done in post-production. The distance from the first switch to the turn is about 500 feet or 150 meters. The distance from the first turn to the second turn is slightly longer. This kind of perspective seems common in railroad videos and films though. Whatever, it's great photography. Just not an accurate representation of the distances.
I live there for the first 27 years of my life. There is nothing like a rainy day in Chicago, especially if the weather is cool.
Yeah that perspective makes it look like 6 train cars are the length of 1 (0:33) it’s so weird
@@elisefidler6126 I left there in 1975 but I know the territory. It's great photography. Must have been done with a drone.
@@elisefidler6126 Upon further review, there is a bridge over the tracks at the Adams St. and Wabash Ave. Station. The photographer must have been up on the bridge. You can hear people talking, which tells you, that is where the camera is located.
One more thing. The Chicago cars are 48 feet long, compared the 55 feet for the the New York City subway cars.
The Chicago Transit Authority says 55 foot cars would be too long for some of the turns in the Chicago system. They also said, the ridership levels are not high enough that longer cars would be needed. The Chicago system has only one line with ridership approaching New York City levels.
Both the Chicago and New York systems are archaic but very functional.
An eight car Chicago train is about 400 feet long.
This is taken with a telephoto lens, so the perspective is compressed.
The shooting location is from the top of the bridge that crosses the railway tracks of the station. It is not a drone shot.
Thank you for visiting.
