Oooh! This blows my mind! I need to find a class and try spinning now. “I feel like a Victorian, but with more basic human rights” has to be one of the best lines on CosTube.
2 km of yarn means 2km of knitting ! I am so impressed by your skills.I have been knitting for many, many years but still can not use just a drop spindle!
@@MijnWolden Thank you for that . I find that even practising with a length of wool , the spindle has a mind of it's own . My hands are so skilful with most other things but with this, I feel quite useless. I will try to find a support spiindle.
You manage to spin your own yarn and knit a whole cycling sweater in the same amount of time it took me to knit one vintage sweater with store bought yarn 😂 my hat off to you
That sweater looks very warm and cosy. Beautiful work. :-) I think you needn't worry about your knitting. Its not wrong, its just not the mainstream. As long as there ist propper knittwear at the end, its totally fine. I for example knit from the backloop too, but the ones to purl, i knit the front loop ;-) Because my grandma tought me that way. It just needs thinking twice sometimes, when i knit special stitches.
Indeed, as long as you get the fabric you want, there's no wrong way. But I'm always hyperaware not all People think like that. My grandmom taught me how to knit as well, but she taught me English style, so if she would see me knitting now, in my eastern uncrossed style, she's forcibly relearn me English style I'm sure 😂
Oh! I knit the same way as you. I prefer handspun yarn because most commercial yarns untwist as I knit with them because of how I knit. I've heard the style called "eastern uncrossed" or "eastern european style" knitting. It's so much easier on my hands, personally! Love the sweater and your personality is delightful.
Well, at least I'm European, so I got that right for this knitting style 😂 I didn't know it had a name. Surely Will look into it more! Great to hear from other knitters like this! Thank you for watching and commenting 😁
Hey! I also knit the back loops when ever I am doing flat knitting or ribbing! I never knew if this was the "right" or "wrong" way to knit , and i dont remember if i was taught to do this, or just started one day lol! It just makes it so much easier when you knit English throwing style to pick up your stitches if they arent all stockinette 😅 they are tighter than i can deal with otherwise
Oh my goodness... such a delight to watch and listen to you. Rarely have I laughed out loud so much when watching a video - thank you, thank you, thank you!

Apparently it's called the eastern uncrossed style of knitting and from what I have read online it could possibly be one of the oldest styles of knitting. And it makes Sense because the oldest knitting needles Found actually had a hook on them and I think I naturally adapted to this style because I crocheted a lot before I started knitting. Take Care, Jen!

You seem like someone who is a lot of fun! I just found your channel and have watched some of your videos. I love your sense of humor. I was a couturier and designer by trade. Now I just so for myself and my family.
Mistakes are the training. I went through A LOT of materials and mistakes. My current project is probably the most expensive thing I've ever done. I am almost 250 hours in. But it is my dream project. You keep doing what you do and you will eventually be the very best at what you do.
I knit like this too! If I am only doing knit stitches, I don't mind doing it the 'right' way, but purl stitches that way just feel wrong. Why would I make extra work for myself by bringing the yarn down with my finger (or however they do it to keep the yarn from twisting) when I can just scoop up the yarn. It's much less movement, so my wrists don't hurt as soon.
I really went the extra Mile to find a way to make the purl stitches in the back loop work for me, and I wouldn't want to do them any other way now. Indeed, it's so much easier to scoop! Great to read I'm not the only one that thinks that 😁
enjoy and use your vintage buttons! what's the point of having them if you can't use them?...in my opinion anyway! i love the color of the buttons and i absolutely LOVE the final product of your sweater!!! one day i will knit a cycling sweater because i just love them so very much!!!!
@@MijnWolden i've just learned to knit in the last month! and i DO want my first project to me a simple-ish sweater and this is somewhat simple, just increases, decreases and needle size changes so yeah, maybe it is!!!
Ik erger me dood aan hedendaagse kleding. Vaak te strak, te zwak en niet waterdicht. En als het wel waterdicht is, is het een stuk zweetplastic. Ik mis vooral het wollen laken. Of sowieso fijne wollen gewoven dagkleding.
What a lovely sweater! I've seen different versions of this sweater online in the past, but I hadn't found a modern pattern for it yet, so thanks for linking to it! I got a spinning wheel just last weekend, and I'm currently spinning my first bobbin with some Texelaar. I'm Dutch so for me it's the cheepest fibre to buy, and I love that the sheep is a Dutch breed so it doesn't have to be imported from across the world. Now to find a local farmer where I can buy whole fleeces instead of 100gram bits, because I'm already going through it quite quickly! Edit to ask if you used the different tones of the wool in specific parts of the sweater, or if you just used them randomly, I'm curious if the tones are noticeable in the end result.
Hi neighbour, I'm from Flanders 😁 I think local farmers would be delighted to sell you a fleece or two. I've heard it's quite the same situation in the Netherlands as in Belgium where the farmers get 10 cents per kilo when they sell to the market. If you're on facebook, there are some great groups like spinnen en spinnenwielen and vachten where -especially during shearing season - a lot of fleeces are offered for sale of sometimes for free On the colours: the sleeves are knit in mystery wool. I guess Swifter, but I'm not sure, and the body in Texelaar 😁

That sweater is GORGEOUS and an inspiration for what can be done with handspun yarn. 😍
