Considering this song dates Metallicas Sandman by a good 3 years...
They met Stone in Finland in 1988 and i can guarantee that Metallica ripped them off HARD.

Yes, by a good 3 years almost. I can't help but feel Metallica heavily borrowed from this tune. What do you think?

@@sportosp-0158 many bands borrowed from Stone and they never got recognition really. they were extremely ahead of their time. there's a reason this song is played 24/7 in the national museum of finland lol.

...yeah...they got 'done' just like anvil did (ripped off). But, the album is stellar, and the art on the cover is rad! And if Metallica redid the Stone arrangement, it would've been cool if Kirk would have just said it, give Stone credit. But idk, great minds think alike dudes'...

Just finished a book about Stone. I have never heard that Metallica and Stone would have toured together. There where no mentions in the book about touring with Metallica since Stone toured pretty much only in Finland. Although, I have seen a interview of Stone guys with Lars Ulrich, and Lars said he had heard the music. So it is possible that Metallica copied the riff. In the book Stone guys were asked about this Enter Sandman riff thing, and they just laughed about it and said it was probably coincidence. And yes, Metallica had a pretty big influence in Stone, as they also said in the book.

“Get Stoned” Intro was used as “inspiration” to create Enter Sandman intro.
“Get Stoned” thrash riffs after intro were used as “inspiration” for Battery.
“No Commands” guitar riff used as “inspiration” in Disposable Heroes”
I thought I heard some riffs that Stone “borrowed” from earlier Metallica, so perhaps there is some “homage” happening between the two to some extent.
I certainly don’t see this as exact rip-off copying because the songs have completely different feel. In fact I love both bands.

The guys of Metallica must have heard this and thought "Awesome, but it should have gone like...". STONE never made it far, but they influenced many in their sub-culture. I'd call it cultural appreciation (and I'm a Finn). The song sounds like Enter Sandman remixed by an insane banjo playing puppeteer. Metallica deserves all the praise for Enter Sandman. What my gripe with them is, is their hard-line policy towards appropriating their "intellectual property". Culture doesn't exist in a vacuum.

You should hear more stone. The best metal band in early 90s. You get bored with pantera, but never with stone. Stone was a stepping stone to children of bodom, i recon. Metallica is more like a pop band.

This sort of influence is of course most likely to be an entirely innocent unconscious "borrow", not a deliberate rip-off. And many riffs are more or less bound to be derivative of some others, comparable to fitting different suits of flesh on one sample or another in the rather limited selection of the properly functional sceletons once stashed in the grand closet of the tradition-bound classic heavy metal riffs.
Anyway, Stone surely has a lot to offer, and the alumni, especially Roope Latvala, went very soon on to make music progressing way beyond Metallica's creativity and abilities. Stuff such as Latvala Bros plays Wooden Eye ( ruclips.net/video/h11rUgUwkbM/видео.html , a rather peculiar instrumental progressive thrash album, a genuine rarity too), Waltari, Sinergy, Children of Bodom...

    RPF? Resting Prick Face. 😆
Consider how many riffs are out there... Millions? I can imagine there's not too much room for pure individuality anymore.
I remember watching a video that James was jokingly asking all the bands out there to invent some new riffs.
The justice for Jason thing is so 20th century, wouldn't you agree?
And imho... if Metallica were only using Cliff riffs/ideas, or even solely Mustaine's, they surely wouldn't be here 38 years later as one of the best/biggest metal bands in the world.
    James is a riff master.
Time has moved on for ALL.

    • @sportosp-0158
      @sportosp-0158 4 года назад +2

I would agree that the "Justice for Jason" is in the past, yes. As is Metallica's heaviest offerings. It is a culmination and a pinnacle of the heaviest riffs and most aggressive styles that they had to offer. Which is why it is still so noteworthy, regardless of it's age. It is purely a masterpiece.
While, true, they wouldn't be around for so long if they weren't capable, the question I'm posing is: What have they been most capable of? To answer that, I would simply say "making music". In the last twenty years, how many of their riffs have absolutely crushed it, or been mind blowing. Or even capable of competing with their older content?... I'm hard pressed to answer that one as well.
Once it came down to post "Black Album" it can be said that they have been late to the game in tackling every 'new' genre they tried to get into. Not doing anything really any better, nor worse than, other bands who were playing a similar style at those times. I did like a handful of songs off of the Load album, admittedly but, in my honest opinion Metallica has persevered for so long simply because they're "Metallica". If that makes any sense.

Stone opened for Metallica at some point in the 80s when they played here. James probably heard the song and then later might have had it inspire Sandman sorta subconsciously. No way it was "ripped off" with serious intention. Just my two (€) cents.
