I was suprised when a lot of people bought it then I originally thought,Then I realised this is one of the most effortless and relaxing planes in its br. At 8.3 you have to manage the migs,sabres and g91s clusterfuck of zooming and missiles. But this plane is just Outclimb almost anyone ,Dive on someone slow,Pop a missile,Reclimb and enjoy a coasty win without close and personal cannon-play. People are using it to get comfy relaxed grind the tech tree (imo)
I saw a Vixen flying beside me at 11.0, he went on to get a 3 kill game against Mig21s If that doesn't speak it's quality, idk what does I might have to get it
I'll wait and see what it's br does the coming months. If it stays at 8.3 I'll get it during sale to use in ground rb, having guided aa and at missiles at 8.3 or especially a downtier is brutal!
See Vixen's issue was not so much the plane/airframe, but its engines. Early gen axial flow took ages to spool up and slow back down, which when you are operating from a carrier, let alone some of the smallest carriers still servicing fixed wings... Alot ended up in the water when they missed the wire. Though it didnt help Vixen has the momentum of a freight train
Missiles at 8.3 consist of aim9bs at copies of them. We are talking caged seekers with 5-10gs of tracking then this thing comes along with red tops and memes on anything not in full panic turn at close range because they are NOT like aim9e which lose tracking really quick, these things are somewhere between an 9E and 9J and they sure as hell turn like a J. Also how many planes at 8.3 br have flares? Like 2?!
Thing is those missiles burn out of fuel soo fast. Then they just glide. so if youre in a tight turn, its hard as shit to get a hit. Its a fun jet, but those missiles really make is sufferable sometimes.
I think the point you forgot to mention or just like Gaijin put little attention to (which I can't blame you) is that this plane is really good in AIR SIM right now. The silent death, as they don't have RWR or any missile indication systems and ai can't handle missiles. This is a silver lion piggy bank waiting to be burst - at this moment, until further increase in BR.
I have this plane with a 2.9 K/D plane, I would say it's a high skill/ high reward plane, when flying it, you have to remember 2 things: work with your teammates, and prioritize supersonic enemies. Supersonic enemies are the only ones who can catch you, and the lack of cannons deny you head on and snapshot kills. If you remove the fast enemies and play this plane with a squadmate, namly another vixen, it's disgustingly good and the awards are even better.
"High skill" lmao, and the supersonic planes that you face are su7 and maaaaaybe the q5 which you shouldnt be concerned at all. I would only be scared of aim9 G from harriers and r60 from the yak38

Av8 harrier and yak 38 (yak 38 can also be supersonic at mid alt) they have pretty damn good missiles. If you get in a full uptier with the vixen. Ill recommend leaving the match xD
After the today's (29.06.2022) IR missiles update, the Sea Vixen has become a MONSTER of a plane for air assault (haven't tested it in AB or RB but I guess it'd be amazing there as well). As someone who got it 2 months ago because I really loved the platform and Red Tops / Radar combination as well as the machine, Ive been playing it but with little success, especially in air assault where I finished in the last positions almost all of the time and was hated on for this reason. Today I finished 4th with a loaded tank for 20m and speed penalty going with it, and armed only with the 4 Red Tops load, was able to get 18 (!) kills single-handedly without any stress or effort. Most chill and stress-free experience Ive had in WT. Racked up like 30k SL. Again, something unthinkable for me as I do not consider myself skilled in any way. To whomever fixed the IR missiles and the Red Top locking time I want to say - I love you! You made WT ALMOST enjoyable again (as the meme goes lol). I just hope Gaijin doesnt nerf or undo the update. With this update, the plane becomes a solid contender for an excellent purchase again
Just played today with this aircraft. Taking 2x RedTops 2XRN pods and 2x Bullpups Best game had 5 kills and 20 grounds. Used the RN rockets in head ons getting 1 or 2 kills per game. Mainly players being over confident in Su 11s and 163s which made for easy head ons. total of 30 head on kills by end of play. Put RN rocket salvos on your gun button firing short bursts between 1.5 and 1.0 km

As someone who plays 9.3 shengyang F-5, this thing is almost always a guaranteed kill every game with how enormous it is and how slow it is in a turn (rate of change relative to me). It might be good but in uptiers haha good luck
I do pretty well in the vixen regardless of br and have 80% plus win rate, its an insane jet to those who have a lot of experience with the javelin and lightning
I've always wanted this plane in war thunder and bought it the moment it became available but I find the missiles unusable sadly making the plane unplayable for me :(

I bought this in the xmas sale for sim... I have a 20:1 KD in it.... no one has RWR so you lock your radar and fly up and under everything, get in close and kill them. If someone gets too close you just fly away.... fastest jet at 8.3. Doesn't need a gun when you get 20+ kills in a game :p

It’s better as a bomber and as a fighter it needs to be lucky to catch anything in air rb because it’s usually locked up and shot down before it gets in range of anyone else and no flares and poor turning means it’s not dodging anything fired at it
Yeah thx i read people before reply because want say same. i Look vid and jump on my chair when i listen the conclusion with the Harrier commentary... I have 2 premium Brits Jet, the Hunter and the Harrier, and i can tell you those 2 planes are just trash and wast of money and nothing else! Just because of to high BR and because Gaijin mentality always nerf Allies and never axis/soviets. And if this plane can be a good trade, it's cool and balance VS all that cheated advantages to others nations ; like Sagitario, G91, Mig 19/21 to 9.7, Su17, Yak38/AV8 at 9.3 etc....Soo many Brits planes and even US are crap because bad stock, high BR and very high repair. And the pinnacle is the French who have all thoses issues and all atrocious bugged flight models, because don't receive some love and time from Gaijin who treat thoses nations as secondaries!

Not trying to be offensive or anything, but the fact that you'd recommend a GR.1 over this plane shows that you have little clue of what you are talking about. Also, did you seriously say that red tops are essentially the same as AIM-9Bs?
These Reds die so fast in mid flight and just cant keep up. They also randomly explode way more then any other jet ive flown. I get they have a massive payload, but ive got a crit on a G.91 and the dude got away. Makes sense.
I honestly feel like the missiles on this plane are bugged cuz I shot a red top missile at a dude less than a kilometer away the dude was flying in a straight line cuz he didn’t see me and the missile still didn’t hit

Got a few good games my first night in it but now all I see every single game is mig 17 su 7 and mig 21 who can all completely out speed me and out turn me at the same time the second one is behind me it's gg and if I'm behind them they out speed the red top since it only accelerates for maybe a second.
It happens. Ive done it. And i dont mean too. The stupid missile lock will jump on to Friendly jets more than enemy from my time playing. Ill have a teammate being chased and ill be over the enemy and it will leap to the friendly. Its fucking annoying. We dont mean to do it on purpose. No one wants to lose SL. Ive even had instances where a teammate will kill the guy im chasing and he will be infront of me, and it will jump targets mid missile flight. I kid you not. Ill start recording them and make a comp. Its insane.
Ah yes, this p2w bs with 15 g missiles. In that Br, If I see one, I just keep chasing them to Kingdom come. I might not get any kills ( usually do ) but neither is Miss Vixen. Lol. Plus it doesn't hold energy well after turns, so a sabre or mig 15 bis will ultimately catch up.
Currently have an 84% wr after about 60 battles. I still have 12 free repairs. 157 kills. This thing is nuts. It's good. Get it
Crazy how in world of tanks an amazing tank in an average player's hand gets 57% WR but in War Thunder it gets well over 80

Sea Vixen was atrocious in RL. Many pilots were killed by them due to various accidents...IIRC about 50? It didnt even see combat fortunately

It did fly peace keeping patrols. Regarding crew killed it ranks quite well compared to other air accidents, F 104, f-105 , Lightning, Sabres

Don't forget you can slave the redtops to radar lock.nif you have radar lock, get IR lock and there's no escape

You truly have to be patient when flying this plane. It takes about 10 or so games to get used to but afterwards the fun begins
