You know what, I bet in the 1890s girls were all going out with basically the same munster tail bustled down just with different colors and trim. If it slays, it slays.
@Sandy-of6gq No that is NOT flattering on everyone lol. I have very curvy hips and thighs, and skinny jeans made me look ridiculous. I love my mom jeans but I don’t wear crop tops cuz I’m too classy to show my abs 😂
@@Sandy-of6gqPeplum top/skinny jeans combos do NOT look good on everyone, I’d argue they flatter a smaller range of body type than baggy jeans and crop tops, because there are many different silhouettes of baggy jeans ans quite a bit of variation with crop tops as well, whereas peplum and skinny jeans are both incredibly specific silhouettes which, especially paired, don’t look great on everyone at all.
Honestly I prefer baggy jeans and crop tops. It's comfier (fuck skinny jeans I can't deal with how tight they are 😭 bravo to you if you can ) and it's cute imo. It's not for everyone but I like it but obviously if you don't like it or you don't feel like it flatters you then you don't have to wear it. Just wear whatever you want and feel good in no one should judge other people for what they wear ❤
I hate the 00s for making stiletto heels so popular, now every shoe is either boring flats or death hazard high stiletto heels and no in between. I just want some kitten heels to make my short ass look not so smol 😭
So I was on the Southern preppy end of the spectrum ( pearls, riding boots, sweater with bedazzled Peter Pan collar, leather bag of some sort etc) so I really thought i was the classy different one. I just looked like every other preppy Southern influencer influenced by whatever Kate Middleton wore 😂
I remember girls wearing pearls and boot cut jeans with pointy heals and tote bag with a cable knit Ralph Lauren sweater to school. Man. We really went to high school dressing business casual. When we really could have just been in running sneakers. T shirt and comfortable jeans. Now we gotta dress that way. Btw. The “look” you described. Is a classic. Minus the bedazzled.
I saw this everywhere on Pinterest! I’m sure you rocked it. I didn’t have the face or the “essence” for it. Still don’t. I did learn a _lot_ from Catherine, though - including a great appreciation for Issa’s silk wrap dresses, monochrome dressing, and greatly improved posture.
I still like skinny jeans. But they’re so much nicer now. They’re not that skin tight fit that we had. They’re a fitted tapered look now. So much more comfortable. I love how we have so many choices for jeans now and they’re all considered fashionable.
In my school, there's a class where every girl looks almost alike. Besides the grunge girl. So she is the only actual version of "I'm not like other girls"
That was me in my school I swear EVERY girl was basic asf and I was the only one. Then we graduated and they all “fell in love with alternative style” 🚮
@nattylite9220 you know basic is a derogatory term used to belittle women just for having similar tastes to other women, right? There's nothing wrong with being like the other girls. They all have their individual personalities, likes, and dislikes, dreams and so on. Just like you. You aren't in their heads. You don't know what they're thinking or why they like the things they like. Show some kindness and empathy to your fellow woman. We get enough flack from the rest of society, as it is.
I had an electric blue peplum, a black one and a black & white striped one! Always paired them with skinny jeans, a statement necklace and a colorful bangle bracelet. Hair would differ, shoes would differ.
I was 24 and loved button-up shirts. So it'd be an oversized button-up shirt with black leggings and my hair wild and down. Went through a brief hippie phase.. but still wore all black. I was sweaty af in clubs. 😅
I remember being so jealous of the girls with the mint and coral skinny jeans! I never got them, but I DID get a mint peplum dress for winter formal 😂😂
I never wore "statement necklaces" or sock buns. I remember seeing them as trends but I just couldn't pull it off with my style. At least with the necklace thing, but the whole perfectly placed bun wasn't my thing lol. Everything else, yes, I did lol. And I miss a lot of it 😭
So wild to see people admitting to being hipster now lol back then it was an insult 😂 even calling someone “scene” was a crime and NO ONE would ever admit it was just an aesthetic!
I was 14 in 2012 so when this happened I was probably going through my "hippie phase" where I wore the same red scarf with peace signs on it tied around my head, paired with a poncho with fun fringe and feather earrings. Yes, I was made fun of ruthlessly.
I had one black peplum that I loved but I could never wear while the trend was popular because it was a halter with lace so it was against dress code. The lace was it’s own statement necklace imo
Erin, as a current college student, at least you guys wore different things 😂 all I see on weekends are groups of girls wearing a black tank/croptop, ripped jeans, and white converse or Adidas. They're all exactly the same.
To be fair... to be FAIR.... I have a short torso and a peplum top was perfect for giving me curves with that waist flair-out. Now everything is just stout and square and literally makes my torso stout and square with it😂. I don't have the length to let the square shape make the hourglass illusion it's supposed to
I was waiting for a reveal at the end! I would have been there in my matching leopard print peplum top and leopard bow headband instead of a statement necklace (this time...) 😅🎉
I had a mint floral lace peplum top and it looked GOD AWFUL on me. I've had much better, much prettier, more witchy peplum tops/ dresses since, but I'll never forget the trauma of wearing that thinking I looked good. My poor skin tone..........
