As a materials science grad, I love when traditional items like this get a tech upgrade. I hope they add more composites to new designs.
When I was in music school in the 80s assiduously studying jazz performance and composition I one night discovered that one of my schools stage pianos a Mason & Hamilin BB was being gone through by an elderly piano technician. I had always snuck on to the stage or the green room to play it. Well this magnanimous gentleman took the time to explain in detail what made the Mason & Hamlin so special. You have to start with what differentiates all Steinway, Mason & Hamlin and once upon a time Chickening from European builders. It's epitomized by Steinway's ecstatic exuberant singing tone above forte. All the world's great instruments have charming tone but Steinway introduced the Jeckel and Hyde profile. So that above forte the instrument conceals this explosive propensity (pianists like this). A big Bosendorfer just has a linear tone that just gets fuller or louder but it's not like American projection. So yes Mason Hamlin has this bombastic potential but darker and warmer. It all has to do with attitudes about the relationship between the soundboard and the rim. A thick very hardwood rim keeps the acoustic energy in the soundboard where it can do it's job the profile of the soundboard is allowed to really sing. Also there's some voodoo with that radial tensioner beyond making a Mason & Hamlin a tank regarding it's tone and sustain.
Thank you for increasing my knowledge regarding my 2012 M&H BB grand piano which I bought new. iI's hard for me to get away from playing my piano every day for at least one to two hours. This was the best investment I have ever made and surely beats buying a new expensive car.

Thanks for your Fine, informative video. Excellent playing demonstrates both power and pianissimo. We are in agreement--Mason & Hamlin is my preferred piano. I respect others "taste." However, there are more similarities in other "elite" piano brands than most will admit. Blindfolded, many can't guess what brand they hear, or mistakenly attribute a Japanese to a German; or an Italian for a Hamburg Steinway, or confuse with the famous Austrian. Here's where Mason & Hamlin has an instantly recognized sound: the LONGEST sustain. M&H also has the greatest, most durable construction for longevity--this is proven fact, not opinion (Most massive rims, posts, exclusive Tension Resonator, and perimeter plates). People can invest in other, more expensive piano brands--but can't buy a better piano than Mason & Hamlin--only a different one. I appreciate and enjoy many other "world class" fine piano brands. Mason & Hamlin moves my soul deeper than all others!

I have always watch all the piano reviews and read about the piano. As I work with musical instrument importer and seller company, As a piano & keyboard specialist. It’s my profession and passion to play piano. There are many many good piano making companies in the worldwide but I have really emotional attachment with Mason & Hamlin pianos. They makes top quality pianos but still it’s not so popular in many countries in fact many musicians not aware of this brand. They need to seriously focus in marketing as in this technology world it’s not so difficult. Proper videos with top class audio recording without any audio processing. It will make huge difference for the Mason & Hamlin company. Marketing is the key now days and if you have good product then why not. All the best to Mason & Hamlin. 1. Steinway
2. Mason and Hamlin

If you are a timid performer.......Mason & Hamlin is NOT for you! It requires your total commitment! I have a 1926 RBB and there is not other piano I'd choose.
Agreed.....you play it or IT plays you.......they';re also very forgiving instruments when you gotta try and cover up a split note.....
Their location is pronounced Haver-Hill……
