    Berg-en-Dal rest camp lies in the far south-western corner of the Kruger National Park and, as the name suggests, it lies in one of the hilliest parts of the park.
    In this video, I not only show you exactly what Berg-en-Dal rest camp looks like, but I also tell you what you can expect to see on game drives around Berg-en-Dal. If you don't know the Kruger National Park, game viewing can be tough, so I share three of my favourite game drive routes around Berg-en-Dal and what you can expect to see on them.
    It really is the most comprehensive rest camp and game viewing review about Berg-en-Dal in the Kruger National Park on RUclips!
    BERG-EN-DAL REST CAMP
    Berg-en-Dal is one of the largest camps in the Kruger National Park, but despite its size, it's much quieter than the neighbouring Skukuza and Lower Sabie rest camps, at least outside public holidays and school vacations. If you as me, Berg-en-Dal is the most family-friendly camp in the Kruger National Park, with plenty of activities and facilities for children to enjoy with their parents.
    At reception there's the Rhino Hall, which contains a wealth of information about the Kruger National Park's two rhino species - the black rhino and the white rhino. Then, next to the restaurant, there's the Rhino Trail, which, for the most part, runs alongside the camp boundary fence. All along the Rhino Trail you'll find information boards about the Kruger National Park's fauna and flora, and the first part even contains braille signs for the visually impaired. Then there's Berg-en-Dal's large swimming pool - arguably the nicest one in the whole Kruger National Park! It has a shallow part for young children, plenty of shaded seating around it, as well as a small jungle gym on the side. Last, but not least, there's a shop with gifts and basic groceries, a restaurant and take-away area, and an outdoor theatre that shows wildlife documentaries every evening.
    My favourite thing about Berg-en-Dal rest camp is the campsite! It's massive and has plenty of level and shaded stands, most of which have power and braai facilities. There are multiple clean ablution facilities, as well as places to wash up and cook.
    BERG-EN-DAL GAME VIEWING
    Game viewing around Berg-en-Dal can be some of the very best in the whole Kruger National Park! For one, it's by far the best place in Kruger to see all of the Big Five - lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant - in one drive! That's because it's one of the few parts of the Kruger National Park that still has a decent rhino population.
    NB: NEVER post photos of the rhinos you see on drive on social media, because it may put them at risk of being poached!
    My favourite game drive route from Berg-en-Dal is to drive to the S118 & S119 gravel roads via the H3 tar road very early in the morning. This stunning stretch of road next to the dry riverbed is excellent for elephants, leopard and rhino, and the scenery alone makes driving it worth while!
    Berg-en-Dal is also known for sightings of wild dogs, especially along the S114 towards Biyamiti Weir. Last, but not least, I love spending time on the S110 gravel loop past Matjulu Waterhole close to Berg-en-Dal, because of its beauty and regular sightings of lion and buffalo.

    3:27 Game viewing description starts:
    4:45: #1 First suggestion: BergenDals' camp gate opens an hour before Malelane gate in morning and its best to sue this time to cross over S110 towards east, take left on H3 and reach S118 - BEST ROAD For Leopards.
    5:45 #2: James water hole where S118 cross S114 is also great for waiting
    One should do a few hundred meteres northwards on S114 before contunieng on S119. One can come back to waterhole when it gets hot in the day.
    7:00 #3: S 114 if u further pursue north is also good to reach Menayati bush camp/river where u can see wild dogs
    7:45: Continue north on S2xxx and then reach H3 tar road on north.. come south towards camp and there is a great picnic site in between.
    ALTERATE PLAN S110 - Machulo loop.

    A very comprehensive video! We also love to stay over at Berg-en-Dal! I must agree with everything you've had to say! On the Mlambane Loop, we have regularly seen the resident lion pride, leopards, wild dogs, black & white rhino, buffalo, elephant and plenty of antelope. The Matjulu loop is equally rewarding!

    Great video Villiers! We love Berg-en-Dal and make sure to spend our first night or two there every trip. You nailed all the things we love about the camp and surrounding area….top notch! The only thing you missed that makes Berg-en-Dal so very special for us is that it’s the check-in camp for the Wolhuter Wilderness Trail. I’d love to see you do a series on Kruger’s exceptional Wilderness Trails which are just superb and Wohuter is our favorite of them all 😀😀. Great review, looking forward to seeing more 👍

    Great advice, Villiers... I've stayed at BnD a few times, but I've seldom been along those gravel roads you've suggested, concentrating rather on the tar roads. Next time, I'm following your suggestions!
    And I agree, it's probably the best camp in the park.

    Hello! I plan to visit Kruger Park with group of friends in late February for 3 days (26th - 28th) and I'm wondering which camp will be the best for us. We would like to see as many animals as possible and at the same time avoid the most crowded camps. Do you think that Berg-en-Dal Camp will be good for us?

    Hi there...looking at a 2 night stay in mid May 2023. What will your recommendation be traveling from Pretoria (Mooikloof)? We are looking at Berg en Dal or Lower Sabie. Any other suggestions? Love your video clips. keep them coming.

    • @TheSafariExpert
      @TheSafariExpert  Год назад +1

      Johan, take the N4 straight to Malelane via Nelspruit. Personally, I’d stay in Berg-en-Dal over Lower Sabie and I’d try to do so for longer than 2 nights 😏

    Congratulations on the video. But please reconsider showing Rhinos in your videos, you just make it easier for poachers to know where they are.

    • @TheSafariExpert
      @TheSafariExpert  2 года назад +1

      Mark, I appreciate your concern - I really do. The fact of the matter is that poachers already know where to find the rhinos in Kruger, but foreign visitors with a life-long dream of seeing rhinos, don't. I think it's only fair to help them realise their dream by visiting the right camps. With this in mind, I personally believe that the key is just not to share realtime sightings video social media.
