Lol I think that most people who only scratch the surface of music, can't understand that this is an entire genre. Synthwave and Retrowave music aren't a trend, they are actual genres that uphold a certain aesthetic that has nothing to do with keeping up with modern trends or what's hot and popular.

My favorite song by St. Lucia. Very good music video... However, it takes away my favorite part towards the end, just muting it out... I hate when the video interferes with the original track. This is a perfect example.
Song is good, video is meh. Modern social commentary doesn't automatically make something genius. The video is too disjointed to be good, which is just my opinion, so the people triggered by it can go away.
