  • Amazon Prime’s new My Lady Jane series is a modern and comedic take on the story of the British noblewoman Jane Grey and her nine-day long rule of England. As an adaptation of the book of the same name, it envisions the story of Lady Jane Grey within a tale that covers love, trust, individuality, and coming-of-age themes throughout the script.
Grabbing the interest of viewers and bringing them into the 16th century is no easy feat. The show does this through remixing pop culture classics like Fleetwood Mac’s “Break the Chain” soundtrack within the Renaissance genre, and adding in moments where attitudes on sexuality and female empowerment are normalized within the show’s early modern Britain context. The historical fiction series-similarly to its first episode- shocks viewers with its cohesion and hilarity, and is definitely one to watch.
The three leads Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, and Jordan Peters play Lady Jane, Guilford Dudley, and King Edward, respectively. The chemistry between all three castmates is heartwarming, reflecting the strong relationship dynamics existing on screen. Amidst the show’s debut, we connect with all three leads to understand how they adapted to their roles, their favorite episode of the series, and how they hope My Lady Jane resonates with audiences down the line. Watch our conversation with them here, and read it within the ODDA App.
