- Learn how to pronounce bird, nerd and word in both British and American pronunciation. You might be surprised!
These words all sound very similar. In fact, it is only the first sound in each word that is different!
I also compare "bird" and "beard".

Hi Max thanks for the video have a nice day bye
You're welcome!
Hi Max,
Thanks for the lesson.
Your intro in the very first seconds of the video was great as I just wanted to kindly ask you, may you please do lessons for other topics on grammar, especially advanced, expressions and idioms for different situations? But thanks for you. You are pretty smart and knew this demand ☺.
Lots of thanks Max,
Regards,
Ahmad,
My pleasure!
Yes, my next video is on an intermediate/advanced grammar point 😉. There are lots of videos I want to do, but they take longer to make than many people might think...
Thanks again!
Thanks Max for your kind reply,
Wish u the best luck, and hope to be pleased by learning more and more from you soon :)
I love your videos indeed!
Thank you, Juliana! I'm happy to hear that :).
Me. too Juliana. Max is an excellent teacher-
Hi Max. You are good teacher.
Oh, thanks :).
Thanx sister ❤❤
Thankyou
I appreciate your pronunciation videos very much, because they are really helpful. And i dont mind if the videos are not so long, maybe i preferet it that way because its easier to focus on short videos. And btw, i dont have this CC-Button. My button for subtitles looks more like a little credit card.
I'm happy you like them!
And thanks - that's a great way to describe what that button looks like! I might say it in my next video ;).
Thank you
You're welcome!
Do you have any tips for saying bird? When I try to say it. It sounds like bored. I’m American, but I have rhotacism.
First phrase is awesome:) Many thanks for lesson. Clear and useful. Interesting. Good actress play.I need continue for this serial.Best regards.
Thank you!
What do you mean by "serial"?
You created a short easy memoring video and I like your explanation.
It useful for me. I would like to see much more episodes as this.
I see! I will do my best :).
I was pronouncing NERD wrong. Thanks for lesson. "
Hello, Max!
If you will make sometime one more video like this, tell us please about pronunciation of words:
hare
hair
hire
I'll add that to the list ;).
Thank you for your efforts I like your way to pronounce voice R.
I have a question how can pronounce rr in words like current, irrelevant and serrated?
Good question! It's the same way as I pronounced "r" in the video. In the words you mentioned, it's basically the same in British and American pronunciation. The only thing that would change is how the vowels are pronounced.
English with Max Oh,no 😂finally I asked a good Question, I appreciate your fast replying.
Haha, you're welcome!
George has fainted from the heat, lol
Haha :)
Thanks Max?
Excellent, as usual.
I would stress the difference in pronunciation between "word" and "ward".
Some of my students find it difficult to distinguish between them.
Best Regards,
Meni Porat
That's a good point! I'll try to include that if it comes up again.
Many thanks!
You're welcome, Max.
The similarity in pronunciation between "word" and "ward" is greater than the one between "bird" and "beard".
In fact, the "word"/"ward" difference in pronunuciation is very similar to "worm"/"warm".
Nice video! Thanks! What about bear, beer and bird? ;)
Haha! Already done ;).
Ouch! 🤦♀️ need to check more videos then!
Hi Max!
I made Russian subtitles for this video.
I just accepted them. Thank you very much again!!
(I don't understand Russian, but RUclips shows me the Google translations of your subtitles and they looked very good!)
you are so cute :) I love your slow speaking style.
You're great! But I can't still know exactly how to pronounce 'car' or 'girl'.
What is the difference between intend to do and expect to do something?
"Intend to do" means "to plan to do". "Expect to do" means you think you will do that (you believe something is going to happen).
A good dictionary:
dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/intend
Thanks to you my Siri picked up my accent of Bird bird bird bird birds( I typed them using voice keyboard)
That's awesome! :D
The Big Bang Theory is a great series!

Thanks Max!
I like it too :).
I clicked on the link, but then saw it went for nearly an hour and a half... I'll bookmark it and keep it for those moments when I need a "pick-me-up" :).
:))
please when you say something or pronounce at a time please write down in the screen.😀
Aaaaaah...the warmth of summer. I remember what that feels like. Well, I sort of remember. It was -19C here the other day. Could I possibly interest you in a trade?
Haha, I think I'll keep the heat! One of the reasons I came back to Australia was to get away from the cold 😉.
It hasn't been that brutally cold here in probably a decade but it was worth it. It gave me the opportunity to photograph some snowflakes and frost formations that were rather dazzling. =)
It's summer in your country, but it's winter in my country. However,I still insist learning English !
Haha, very good!
Where are you from?
China
Oh wow! According to my RUclips analytics, I don't have many viewers in China. But I know it's tricky to access RUclips there.
Yeah,RUclips and Facebook are not allowed to be used here, but we have special methods to access.Though it's difficult and tough, but the desire of learning drives me to overcome that.

How come? It is such a popular song, even here in Russia! Anyway, maybe I am just a little too old-fashioned :)
