It looks pretty good, but it doesn't look "70 fps on the fastest GPU in the world" good. Especially the screenspace reflections are something that we really should have left in 8th gen where it made sense. Go ray-traced or for water go back to planar. SSR artifacts (gaps) are so distracting in this kind of scene with lots of clutter between the camera and the water I'd almost prefer a baked cubemap.
Oh yeah, especially at the camera edges when panning fast over the water! I absolutely HATE that!! Plus some leaves and stuff got incorrectly reflected, even though they where in front of the lake, close to the camera. This is soo annoying.
@@dangernoodle235 The "close to the camera" problem isn't close objects being reflected erroneously (although that sort of thing did use to happen in older SSR techniques), it's that there's a gap in the reflection that's the size and shape of the close object. You could think of it as closer objects casting a "reflection shadow" onto everything hidden behind them. The hidden objects can't appear in the reflection so the reflection has a gap, and the gap's shape gives away what caused it.
Couldn't help but feel like was being watched running around there at night with a torch. Was waiting for something to jump out and scare the poop out of me. Very impressive and brilliant.
I would say the big difference is, that those games like Battlefront heavily rely on normal maps to create self shadowing(so just a flat surface), whilst here all the details are from actual polygons, massive massive amounts of polygons.
@@Nelis1324 Does that matter which tech is behind the scenes? If you can do the same with low polys + textures + tricks instead of polygons with billion vertexes, I would prefer the low tech one since that would run on geforce 1060 thus will be cheaper.
@@pandatheelectronic id say low poly mesh wouldnt look good infront of high poly mesh or infront of a mesh with good displacement and nanite, high polygon mesh with nanite and well optimised in terms of verts and triangles look or create photorealistic graphics
We always give praise to the graphics engine and none to the environmental artists. Having ambiance, realistic environments and such comes down to them.
Probably just Quixel Megascans which have been integrated into Unreal Engine since UE4. Now less hardware hungry due to Lumen and Nanite. What makes this feel more realistic than other demos is not the graphic, it's the head bobbing and environmental sounds. The camp fire doesn't look too great, no flame in the world casts a constant light.

I want an AC Origins remake that looks like this released SOOO badly. While also keeping the original AC origins combat with tweaks to make it feel more dynamic.
Amazing graphics, photorealism at it's highest level. But something strange happened, the more I'm being fooled by the game that I'am not seeing a game but real life world, the more I try to see each tiny inconsistencies, like duplicate models of vegetation, inconsistent sound of the water, small errors in water reflections. While in a game like Dark Forces 2, Doom 2, Quake 1, Ignition, old school games I really didn't care since the games were pure action and exploration, amazingly fun. The game must be fun with dummy models made of very simple volumes like a few cubes, sprites and spheres. I really see in the future game developers just creating a very simple world where the gameplay design, the story and some graphics art concepts is making the AI to generate all the detailed graphics, to let them grow naturally with certain randomness.
But AC Origins doesn't need a remake. It might need a remaster bc textures even in ultra are a bit low res when seen from near... But taking that apart, it really is a great looking game. Now, to talk about this engine demo, it looks great though
it's been the same for years the demos show us such nice games but in reality nothing comes out that looks like this the whole thing always reminds me of the advertisement for frozen pizza on the box the pizza looks so delicious but then after you do that thing out of the oven, the whole thing just looks lame!
The extent of an engines' visuals, and the overhead of added game mechanics has to have some tradeoff. Roam around in Assassin's Creed Origins Afterlife (all of them with ray tracing) in one video. That'll be a good video. Of course at 8K or 4K. Please do this ;)
The camp fire looked terrible, the actual flames looked like a flat animation that turned when the camera panned. No footprints in the sand? And the physics are way off, walking over the rocky area would make us humans slow down, side step, go up, down over the bigger rocks etc... Otherwise, the vegetation looks great but should all of the palm trees be the same height? Looked at bit unnatural at one point..?
I hope this demo is running at 4k without DLSS otherwise most people will get unplayable frame rates on any game that looks this good or is more populated with assets than this is. I doubt Ubisoft will make anything this nice they refuse to get with the picture and and stop using their shitty Anvil engine and move to the infinitely superior UE. If they do, maybe they'll finally stop having the worst character models in the industry
it looks good, but it's still no where close to real life. The water looks terribly fake, especially contrasted against the more realistic looking palm trees. It's also just a desert landscape with a bunch of palm trees copy pasted in the middle of it. It still 'feel' like a level. The fire isn't anywhere near close to real life either. We will, just when things are better optimised and we start getting rid of 15 year old GPUs that cant handle a game at 720p, with the help of DLSS and FSR, a LOT of games are playable on even low spec PC's now
all of this and no footprints? lol games from 2008 had destractive ground footprints. the sounds are horrible too, his feet barely touches the tip of the water and it sounds like 10 people padel boat splashing through. the moon looks like a projector blinding all. the fire burn on two sticks and she looks like blazing tornado of molten lava. im not impressed. comeon you can do better. the wind on the sand looks cool thou, and the lights looks good too

Does it look amazing? Yes. Does it look photo realistic? No. And it won't for decades to come. Not even movies can get CG right and a frame for a movie is rendered over several hours. So stop with this hype.
This is real-time on consumer hardware. Amazing!
Looks very pretty but damn those sound effects were killing me.
The water splash clipping off at the end was taking me out of it.
Looks nice, love the dunes. Can't wait for the day when water detail is increased i.e ripples from ones movement expand out clash, converge etc.
unreal engine is amazing. great video!

Trying to hide the use of screen space reflections on the water surface so hard - moving the camera only left or right
Best quality 👌 👏 🙌 💯
They used DLSS for this video? Or only RTX ON?
Stunning!
The bigass rocks refuse to load though it seems :P
