    Hank Mobley, the most underrated musician and composer. The essence of hard bop: sophisticated blues.

      There is another excellent CTI recording called Studio Trieste that features Chet and Hubert with guitarist Jim Hall.

    This was recorded in 1974. I agree Gadd is a little busy on this track, but we all develop as musicians over time. And it's very hard to be critical of such raw (and infant??) talent that we hear in this recording. Listen to Gadd playing on a Joe Sample CD entitled Feeling Good. He plays brushes on every track taking a minimalist approach - most of you would not GUESS it was Gadd playing drums if I'd not told you so. We all develop as musicians, regardless of the starting talent point.

    @bobyoung53 Wrong. He's versatile. He can swing his ass off and play the other stuff too. Don't take that away from him.

    Just the right amount of flash and glitz, by already seasoned players who went on to become icons.

    some of the illest I've heard from Chet baker, even as not being one of my top favorites in jazz, this number in particular reaches high scales

      What a bizarre comment. It's obvious that you do not understand Chet's music.

      @@mrconstable1908 how do you even determine something like that based off what I said in a comment I made 8 years ago? What’s bizarre is how ridiculous you sound after reading your reply a few times. Mr “I obviously understand Chet bakers music”

      @mrconstable1908 11 месяцев назад

      @@chowdermonsterr How sad that I have to explain the obvious. I have determined the comment that I posted because it's obvious from your comment referring to "high scales" that you know very little about trumpet playing and even less about Chet's music, by your own admission. Please leave it at that.

      @@mrconstable1908 you fuckin idiot 🤣 you took how I said “high scales” and directly assumed I was talking about physical trumpet playing. ThomasSimmons, nobody wins, it's not a competition. I love Miles but objectively we must recognize that as "trumpet players" there are others superior to him as technique and beauty of sound. That's all.

    • @marcomontangero6918
      @marcomontangero6918 2 года назад

      As a trumpet player I can say that Miles technique was absolutely great: beautiful full sound, perfect pitch, unique sense of timing, …and if you listen to the early records he was also good at performing articulated fast phrases in his own style.
      Comparison between the two is impossible; they represent their different cultural backgrounds: east coast&black vs west coast&white

      This drummer must be gadd. He's got all of gadd's style (comping, drive, phrases, sound). I could bet he is in fact Gadd.
      You can compare both drummers... You just got to paly the track "With a song in my heart" from the same album... That was DeJohnette, with no doubt!

      It is Gadd, Dejohnette plays on the other tracks. Steve Gadd - drums on "Autumn Leaves", "She Was Too Good to Me", "Funk in Deep Freeze", "Tangerine", "My Future Just Passed"
      Jack DeJohnette - drums on "With a Song in My Heart", "What'll I Do?", "It's You or No One"
