I really love how much you appreciate Tao. He had a bad choice of wording with "this is all your fault" to Charlie, but once you learn where his abandonment issues stem from you really understand many of his actions. Plus, whereas Charlie is someone who tends to hide away when it comes to conflict, Tao will get right in their face. I wish I had someone like that in my life growing up.

Also I love that you guys take criticism. I just binged this whole series today and at first it was very frustrating to have something so important be called campy and "done a million times" but as it's gone on I find myself touched by your story as friends. I love that this isn't just a reaction to heartstopper but that we actually get to know you as people too.

I knowwwww.... I'm sorry. Plenty of folks were frustrated with me in the first 2-3 react episodes. I don't watch much TV, but this has been the most TV I have watched in one sitting all year. I also was trying to find my footing. I was trying to be entertaining while trying to not piss people off....which I seemed to do anyway lol! I'm glad you stuck around and gave me a chance. Taking criticism is really one of the key reasons the channel is doing so well so quickly in my opinion, and we'll continue taking criticism on as we try to grow the channel -SV

It was incredibly touching to hear you both tell your stories about bullying and the healing over time. What is interesting is your perspective as veterans on the utility or futility of violence in response to bullying and in trying to stop it. I'd love to hear you both tell us more about your perspective about that.

I was glad to hear your comments about Tao. He really is a very divisive figure among reactors. Some reactors get him but others are very negative, one reactor even equates him as a villain with Harry and Ben (I didn't watch that reactor any further).
I think Elle was begging Tao to join the dots when they were talking in the park. "I'm not surprised Nick fought Harry if he was being a dick to Charlie". She could see Tao not knowing was putting a strain on Tao and Charlie's relationship and knew her own relationship with Tao was going to suffer the longer the secrecy went on.
I always had the impression that Harry and his hangers-on were not the bullies Charlie suffered from last year. Tao says in episode 1, "They're like the guys who bullied you last year." If they were in the year above Nick and Harry, then they may well have left school by this time.
On a technical note, I understand why you have to reverse the image, but when you do, can you read out the text messages so that we are not trying to read the mirror image?

    • @GVSV-Media

I started watching your channel for these Heartstopper reactions, so I didn't realize at first how new your channel was. That is honestly a compliment, I watch a lot of reactions and you guys have a very good byplay in your conversations and perspectives.
In one of these episodes, you talked about forming a list of recommendations... so this is me submitting mine. It's an adult animation on Prime called 'The Legend of Vox Machina'. A mix of adventure, fantasy, sarcasm, and slapstick comedy with a very interesting back story. How the show got made is a story in and of itself, and one I like to share with people who first start reacting to it as my first post. So much so that I keep a permanent copy saved to my computer to spare me from having to type it every time. Vox Machina is so much more than what it would seem at a quick glance, the people involved LOVE telling stories together and have crafted some truly masterful ones due to their love and trust in each other to collaboratively take the characters they each created to wherever it is they believe they would go. And there is so much more to come from this group... I'm not even going to touch on what has been happening in Campaign 3 that makes the future of the animated possible Universe sending fireworks off in my brain. Season 3 of the Animation is going to premier on October 3rd, no expectations being placed about that, just giving the intel... however, when Critters finish season 3... we are going to go into withdrawal, so for a good chunk of time after there will be craving for any related content we can find, including reactions. Anyway, now that this disclaimer/explanation is done, I will paste in that saved history lesson.
Hello! So... I confess, the following comment is a copy and paste of one I wrote quite a while back, have tweaked several times, and so now I fall back on it to give a Critical Role explanation. Yes, it's a bit longer than average, but... there's A LOT of stuff to cover, I summarized as best I could.
Welcome to the world of Critters.
Once upon a time, many years ago a talented voice actor was about to have a birthday, and to celebrate Matt Mercer, another well-established voice actor and talented GM (Game Master) offered to run a role-playing game for a group of friends... who also all happened to be voice actors. So, a group of nerdy ass voice actors sat around and played D & D. The group had so much fun they made it a regular thing, Felicia Day of 'Geek and Sundry' heard about this game and approached them with the idea of streaming it... and it became a hit in its field, eventually growing into its own company and channel known as Critical Role. Parting on good terms with their previous home, Felicia Day has a small role in the beginning of episode 2.
Vox Machina was the group of characters they played in Campaign One, there has also been a Campaign Two, in which the cast plays a whole new group of adventurers. Both are set in the same world, but on different continents, and Campaign Two is set a few decades after the end of Campaign One. Each campaign ran for over a hundred episodes which are all over three hours long, and we are over 100 episodes into Campaign Three. They have also put out a bunch of other content, from talk shows to shorter games in other Role Playing worlds. They have played live shows to sold out theaters, become the number one channel on Twitch, have merch stores in multiple countries, have comics and actually published books of fan art (there are some talented as F*** Critters) they also started a nonprofit charity to... "Leave the World a Better Place."
The whole cast would all tell you that they never expected any of this, that it has been a wild ride and they are just trying to hold on and be worthy of it.
A few years ago they started looking into the possibility of an animation, but no one was buying, or at least not on their terms, so they went to the Critters to try and raise upwards of $700,000.00 over the course of 45 days in order to make a two-part special for themselves and their fans.... The Critters laughed, and smashed through not just the goal amount, but also ALL of their stretch goals within an hour. By day 45 they had raised nearly 11 and a half million dollars, added a bunch more stretch goals, and the two-part special became a season. Amazon took note and basically funded a second season (3rd season was green lit just before season 2 dropped) to get the streaming rights, but the show is created by Critical Role. Those Nerdy Ass Voice actors are the producers and have full creative control. Most of the people they hired, from writers to artists and composers are also fans who love and know the story and its world. It is one of the truest examples of a project of love I have ever seen.
During the production of season one of the animation they put out a series of videos to keep their fans in the loop of how things were going. Interviewing the people behind the scenes and giving non spoiler info about the production. It's a good watch and will really help you understand the devotion and love that went into this project, as well as introduce the cast, the people who created these characters and this amazing story. Personally, how the lead composer got the job is one of my fav stories. Here is that play list. (P.S. Critters like me will watch you react to it.)
    ruclips.net/p/PL1tiwbzkOjQwJdoNetaNJE1zZVOE7xi8u
The latest big news is that Amazon has signed off on producing a season based on the Campaign Two group, known as The Mighty Nein! And no I did not misspell Nein. They have also reached a multi year agreement that Amazon gets the first look at any new shows OR movies Critical Role wants to produce. Many a fans ears perked up at the mention of possible movies given the popularity of a particular 4 episode and done Campaign, “Exandria Unlimited Calamity” It is a separate adventure set in the same world, but way, WAY, before Vox Machina's or The Mighty Nein's Time.
The latest, latest news, Critical Role now has their own streaming service called Beacon. They in no way limited the access people had through the other streaming sites but do offer some exclusive content on Beacon. I signed up right away as it is a very reasonable cost. Critical Role gives me more joy in a month than my weekly treasured latte, so I figured they deserve direct support from me for about the same price once a month.
Once again, welcome to this new world, hope you enjoy your visit and stay for a while... it's a devoted community with a lot of heart... and dicks... so many dicks... LoL. Let Chaos Reign!

I know that you have to edit stuff out for copyright reasons.
So I thought I'd bring up a couple of missing pieces of dialogue that I thought were telling.
    1.
At the beginning, during Charlie's conversation with Tori, when he tells her that Nick and he were 'going out', she says "Called it." Charlie reminds her not to tell anyone because Nick isn't even out to his own mom.
When she realizes that Charlie and Nick would be going to the cinema with Nick's friends, she warns Charlie that Nick's friends are not as nice as Nick.
Charlie expresses his feeling of being safe, anyway, because none of the guys know about his and Nick's relationship.
    2.
When Charlie's dad is about to drop Charlie off, Dad tells Charlie that if any of those boys does or says anything nasty, Charlie should call his dad (who is very protective of him).
Charlie says that Nick will be there, implying that Nick's presence makes him feel safe.
    3.
When Nick realizes that he had been misinformed -- that Harry and Ben, in fact, Would be there ---
he leads Charlie over to the snack area, away from his 'friends.'
Charlie has already begun to feel upset, so when Nick suggests they get popcorn, Charlie has already lost his appetite.
When Nick apologises about Harry and Ben's arrival, Charlie's attention is drawn away from that topic and towards the fact that Nick has called Charlie "Char" -- using a nickname for the first time in their relationship.
(Nick, when pressed to say it again, acts as though Charlie's saying it's 'cute' has put him off ever saying it again. [He smiles, though, so his 'threat' seemed good-humored]
    {Not a terrible spoiler: In season 2 and forward, Nick calls him "Char" a few times in emotional moments.}
    🩷💜💙

Ahhhh… you guys skipped the best part of the episode. Where Nick’s mom says “Charlie’s a very special friend, isn’t he?” It’s that moment she’s figured out everything and is leaving the door open for him to say something. I cry every time I see her face in that moment.

    • @slm_766
      @slm_766 Месяц назад +5

      Yes.
Mom gets it right after Nick agrees that fighting is not the answer, BUT that Harry said a bad word.
[I don't know whether people use the term nowadays, but when I was young (I'm 73 now), the term was "fighting words" often referring to the N-Word. Within the LGBT+ community, the equivalent "fighting word" is the F-word.]
Her facial expression indicates that she knows just what word it had to be, given the circumstances. So clearly she knew that Charlie was called the F-word -- leading Nick to "throw hands."
When Nick replies to her question with, "Yes, He is" --- he is pretty much letting her know how he feels about Charlie. (Even though he is not yet ready to explain in more depth.)
Every reactor I've watched has just stopped the video at that point and said "*She knows*.

I've watched reaction videos for Heartstopper created by many people. The reactions for this difficult episode range from depression to extreme anger. One pair of reactors talked about how this episode grounds the series with a bit more unfortunate realism.
(And even though the finale (episode 8) does eventually provide some resolution, many reactors still carry their depression from this episode as they begin the next one.)

DUUUUUUUUUUUUDES. The show’s soundtrack was so low in comparison to your voices that to hear it at all at the very start of your video I turned the volume waaaaay up high at the start of the video then got hearing damage and a jumpscare when you started talking.
Is this show really ‘saccharine’, or is it wholesome? Are you apologizing for something you don’t need to apologize for?
Never worry about not talking enough. The expressions on your faces while you watch are the most important reactions I watch for. Even when I can see by tiny muscle tensions you and other reactors are suppressing your face showing emotion out of habit. It’s something everyone does to a greater or lesser extent. Emotionally expressive people do it when really shocked. Men especially as a group are trained or self trained into suppressing facial reactions/emotions. And traumatised, neglected and/or abused people are habitual maskers, either blank faced, or outright habitually conditioned into behaving more cheerful than sad or angry, because sadness or anger get them punished, either directly by abusive adults or indirectly by society at large not having cultural space for expressing sadness or anger in public.

@@GVSV-Media I’m really appreciating the algorithm throwing you two at me right at the ground floor of your show. I’m very invested in you not getting a single copyright strike too.
People seem to do well when they put a translucent version of the show’s branded title and the copyright holder’s name over the picture. So a big translucent Heartstopper in the Show’s font, with Netflix on the screen somewhere, over the show’s frame.
Other people just use a big translucent COPY RIGHT over the screen, but I personally think Amazon and Disney etc will like the brand name advertising on your screen better.
For sound, if you’re lowering the sound volume, pleeeeeeeease have the sub titles written forwards instead of backwards?
And please don’t worry about how much you talk (although if you don’t talk much during the show, I personally want a discussion afterwards.). Both of you have already shown to be thoughtful, intelligent, kind men.
