I can't believe the Torkal disrespect continued into gen 8. The episode Infernape comes back mentions how it trained with Ashs other fire types...except Torkal.
I find it really frustrating that Torkoal really spent most of its journey as written as *a punching bag and cannon fodder for Ash's battles to create suspense* - which form it's very underwhelming competitive win-rate and success in battles...... he learned the formidably strong and devastating Overheat, *but didn't land a single meaningful KO with it....*

I really loved torkoal. It's already adorable, and I love how emotional the turtle was about everything, appreciating the world he got to be a part of. And of course Ash forgets it ever existed because he has to dump out everything other than Pikachu. 😔
Paul at the time was blinded by emotions and wanted nothing more than to beat Brandon for selfish reasons, which Brandon later calls him out for. Because of it, Brandon effortlessly defeated Paul's team which was specifically designed to hard counter his Regis.

Agreed! I always thought the battle versus Registeel was a much cooler showing of Torkoal's abilities than anything we saw from most of the Johto team (besides Heracross vs Gary/Nando)
@@ProfessorAlexSilver two things to both your comments -Torkoal ALMOST won against registeel if regjsteel didn't use lock on I think Torkoal would've won -now that I think about I don't think ash ever once used bayleef or Totodile since the johto league (totodile is probably his least used starter ever alongside snivy)
As someone who stopped watching the anime around generation 2, I'm really liking these videos! Every time I would watch a new episode I would hope Ash would catch a new pokemon, so this series is giving my 10-year-old self everything he always wanted from the anime!

I love torkoal, I love that ash has a torkoal, I feel like this was a really good pokemon for ash's team, as it got a lot of character, and also would probably not have much of an appearance if ash didn't own it. I sometimes think about what if ash had camerupt, I feel like it would have been a really cool member of his team, it would be big and sturdy compared to his mostly small and agile team in hoenn. But the more I think about it, it would be too much like tauros, and plus camerupt is maxie's signature pokemon, so it's showed up elsewhere.
I like to think Ash's Bulbasaur often finds itself helping calm Torkoal down during its famous emotional outbursts. Honestly, all Torkoal needs is one epic league win to help get it back on the radar
I love these videos so much, your channel is really underrated. I didn't watch johto hoenn or sinnoh, so I often read bulbapedia to try to get info on some pokemon of Ash's I'm interested in, but even then I don't get a proper understanding of their strength or personality and it's hard for me to find good clips for that, but these videos do that in a short and concise way and I love it. I hope you continue making these.
3 things I'd like to say about torkoal 1. Definitely proved itself as one of Ash's best Pokemon despite how easy it is to forget about it 2. I'd like to think professor oak had torkoal train with Ash's other fire types to better it's abilities since it used to rely so heavily on overheat 3. Torkoal only lost in sinnoh because Tobias used cheat codes to get legendaries
Torkoal is one my favourite Pokémon type fire of ash and l know that it was not well used in some battles but l know that it some years it will return and will be better used in battle.
This is one of my top 10 favorite Pokémon and when you brought up the crying I said out loud awww he’s a sensitive turtle. Now I just want to give him hugs and head pets.
I remember Ash’s Torkoal it always sprayed smoke out it’s nose. It had a very powerful moveset: flamethrower, body slam, and heat wave, and overheat. The last time Ash used it in battle was in the semi final round in the Sinnoh league, it got taken out with one hit by Darkai.
That darkrai user was very bullshit and overpowered in the world setting. Legendaries were like gods and one of a kind thing then this guy just brings out 2 to league battles and stomping on all the kids in the sand pit.
Even though, I was first introduced to Torkoal, in Pokèmon Sapphire, the episode "All Torkoal, No Play", became one of my favorite episodes of all time, simply because of him! I'm so glad that they reintroduced Torkoal, in Pokèmon Ultra Sun and Moon, and gave him the Drought Ability! He's so awesome!😁✌🏾

Ash’s Torkoal is one of the 2 reasons why I chose to use a Torkoal of my own in Alpha Sapphire. The 2nd reason is because it was the best fire-type that would fit on my team.
Despite torkoal not being the strongest it did help in battles doing damage so other Pokémon could land the winning blow nearly defeated a legendary and was a big hearted teammate
i literally re-watched Destiny dexoy a few days ago (was at my grandpa's, it was like 10 p.m. everyone was in bed, i had no wi-fi so i had brought my portable DVD player and my pokemon movie set) and i was so sad when the ONLY time Ash used another pokemon besides Pikachu in that movie; it fricken lost
Torkoal kind of got a raw deal with how he was beaten relatively easily in some of the battles torkoal was in. Maybe Ash’s Corphish can be the next hoen region Pokémon you cover.

I remember back when I was like 6 playing Ruby, I thought Magcargo would evolve into Torkoal. That was a total mistake.

For my part I was thinking that Slugma and Mascargo was gen 3 pokemon, conpletely forgething them from the Jotho games.

Torkoal is basically a Tank in battle. It has very high defenses, and it dishes out lots of damage too.

The only downside for a Torkoal is it’s speed, but that’s to be expected since it’s literally a turtle.
We all had Tobias flashbacks when Torkoal got competitive.
