    From all of the videos I’ve watched, the one piece torque boxes are a huge pain in the rear to do. All of the comments I have read are that the best and easiest way to go are to do the the two piece and to install the gusset. The reason is they all need to be massaged to fit right, and it’s just easier to do it with single pieces rather then as a one piece.
    I’m not trying to bring you down, I’ve bought some of the pieces you’ve made, and I follow your channel to use you as a test mule for things I want to do with my 65 coupe. My 65 is going to be a mild weekend cruiser so I have to disagree with you not liking the wheels you got for your car. I understand why you might not ultimately like them, but I got them for my car and I absolutely love them. They look great and are a great fit. I loved how they looked and fit on your car and that is the reason I got them. So you gave me valuable information that saved me from spending my precious dollars on wheels that may not have worked for me.
    I’m also interested in getting the Track Bar you got from MM. It would probably be a great setup for my car, but honestly with what you are going to do with your car in the future, I think a Watts Link with a Torque Arm from someone like Cortex Racing would be better for you. But that comes with a higher price tag, so that my no be in the cards for you either.
    I do enjoy your videos and I do learn from them. Thanks for taking the time to post them so others like me the things that work and the things that don’t.

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel  Год назад

      I can echo your words on the Torque Boxes. ;)
      The jury is still out on the wheels. I want my cake and eat it too, finding it difficult to do that.
      If I went Pro with this car, I think I could justify the Watts Link, but the boring backroad stuff I do is perfect for a Panhard Bar. MMI makes a torque arm setup with his rear cantilever suspension system, so that's the goal. Now I just gotta figure out how to make the money work. :)

    I've had 2 cars repainted along with minor body work. Both took 1 year at different places. If changing colors be sure to strip bare everywhere or every little chip and scratch will reveal old color. All the factory colors look good but I like the unusual colors. There are so many whites, reds, and blues out there. For '66 there was sauterne gold. It is a faint green gold. I looked all over for one but they were either in poor condition or repainted but they missed the color by a mile. I finally got a prairie bronze GT.

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel  Год назад

      Yeah, I'm not trying to build a show car, I want to drive it, so the paint is going to get chewed up over time.
      I agree the main colors are everywhere, but I like them, so it's less of an issue for me. To go with an odd color or something truly custom or different makes me nervous as I'll likely have to repaint down the road because of how much I want to drive the car. :)

    Hi Andy - Really interested to see how you complete your projects. I literally have the same car, Color and 347 Stroker, T5, hydraulic clutch and Pedal. I have Mike Maiers Autocross kits Mod 1 front and back suspension. I have 17" wheels and rolled my fenders twice with no issues. I have 45's in the back and 25's in the front. Important to have the right Backspace. I can do hard turns and no rub. I am lucky Maiers is 30 minutes away from me. I also have the Front Race Apron and Fiber Glass rear bumper from Maiers Racing like yours which I have not installed yet. I was told you do not have to cut the apron with Maiers Apron and it just tuck under the front lights after you remove the whole front grille and bumper. Just need to decided if you want remove the hood Catch Assembly for a better look. When I show my car everyone likes the clean look and chrome. The original color Wimbledon and blue strip is a classic look. My OPINION - If I was to re-paint my car I would paint a nice solid color. Nice solid colors to me are more update and you are not limited to the type of wheels and what you can do with the car. I would go to a lot of car shows and check out the color you may want or hopefully one of your followers has already painted their car with a nice color. Picking the color is a tough decision. Can't wait to see your progress and how it turns out.

    be careful about active brake cooling on a street driven vehicle, race cars have them because they are on the brakes extremely hard very often. on a street car you wont get to those kind of extreme temperatures so if they are actively cooled then every time you touch the brakes they will be below operating temp so as the rotor expands rapidly under braking and you risk sudden wheel lock up. a dumb idea I'm going to do is buy cheap exhaust cutouts and put them in line with the ducting so street driving I will have good brake temps and when I'm playing around I can keep everything cool

    Hi Andy. For color, I truly like a metallic blue body (kinda that Subaru WRX blue) with silver stripes. I had a John Cooper Works Mini Cooper S modified for the track. Great Blue color, and after some goofball crashed into the right front corner of the car (necessitating a hood replacement) I had silver stripes starting solid at the from of the car and fading to the windshield, then solid over the windshield and fading to the spoiler, then solid down the rear of the car.
    A few videos ago, you asked what viewers thought about going down a wheel size and using a larger sidewall. I'm thinking that with the work you've been doing, that could be a mistake. I played with tire size, air pressure, sway bar size, wheel widths and height, offsets, etc, etc for over 30 years in high performance driving with the Porsche, Alfa/Ferrari and BMW clubs, and in all kinds of weather. My observation is that if you are going to do any kind of spirited driving, and considering the cool suspension changes you've made, going to a smaller wheel and larger sidewall is a mistake. The "plus one" setup is probably the best bet for street comfort and spirited driving using one wheel diameter size. If you get serious about track performance driving, go for the stock size wheel if you want, but get a dedicated set of track wheels and tires. Hope that helps and gives you some more food for thought.

    A few comments. As you might know, I have the same car and paint scheme - but powered by a Cleveland and a Rod and Custom front end - I hate shock towers. Anyway, does your new hood have a steel frame embedded in the fibreglass? - curious. The Shelby front valance will require you to 'relax' the lower edge of the fender due to the difference in curvature - heat works. Your paint won't like it - or gamble and just pull it down to conform. Colour choice? Add a few more 66 gt350 cues like the dash tach, maybe the rear quarter glass and then pick a Shelby colour - Black and Gold looks good with perfect bodywork. Also, 16 inch wheels was not an error - great choice.

    • @AndyKruseChannel

      I wish it didn't require so much work and money to remove the shock towers, but I'll get there.

    Looks like you have lots of work to do.
    When running a fiberglass hood, its a Must to use lighter tension hood springs or non and use a hood prop rod. Too strong of a hood hinge spring can crack the fiberglass hood. Double check with Myer Racing regarding this detail.
    I would make sure rear frame rails are not bent or damaged before removing the quarter panels.
    Install subframe connectors as well. Makes a big difference. I used Global West Suspension. Check with Myer Racing regarding this detail too.

    Good stuff and can’t wait to see it all. I’ll be following….original white and blue stripes are a solid combo. Can’t go wrong, however if u paint it a different color it will feel like a brand new car. ( at least with my experience) Best of luck; I’m sure it will turn out great

    Whoa looks like a lot of work ahead. The bumper delete looks really good when it's all done. Torque box... are you welding those guys? I'm in the camp of new color schemes. Mine is emerald green stripes over black. A lot of people talk to me about the colors because they've never seen it before.

    Absolutely hate that valance whenever I see them on mustangs like noooo. But it’s your taste so who cares lmao. You may need to remove the rear glass for those quarter panels too so you don’t shatter it or get slag and stuff on it.
    I am partial to the black and gold of the hertz cars and the inverse of your blue with white stripes in terms of paint.
