  • A fan tribute to one of the best war movies of all time. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is a 2003 American epic period war-drama film co-written, produced and directed by Peter Weir, set during the Napoleonic Wars. The film's plot and characters are adapted from three novels in author Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series, which includes 20 completed novels of Jack Aubrey's naval career. The film stars Russell Crowe as Aubrey, captain in the Royal Navy, and Paul Bettany as Dr. Stephen Maturin, the ship's surgeon. At the 76th Academy Awards, the film was nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Hollom is such a tragic character. Every time I am unnecessarily mean to someone at work, I worry that they are a Hollom on the inside, a guy who is aware of his short comings, but just well meaning and doing his best.

the doctor leaving his precious findings to alert the captain of enemy presence, duty ahead of everything

Victory requires all sacrifices isn't it? Jack did sacrifice his duty to save Stephen, and by doing so, give Stephen a chance (even coincidentally) to have a glimpse of the Acheron. A beautiful film.

I’m into watching this film again at the moment as I research my 6x great grandfathers time in the Navy between 1797 and 1811. Me and my late dad loved watching this film together. This is a fabulous compilation 💙

This is an outstanding tribute. Brilliant combination of scenes, lines, and music from another (different) film.

This is an awesome movie. As Army vet the doctor was friend that keep Capt level and center. That is needed for most military minded men.

The Acharon was the USS Essex in the books and she was a Joshua Humphreys designed frigate but the captain had removed most of the long guns to be replaced by carronades which game it an extreme amount of fire power at short range but was easily defeated by staying at range as happened historically.

"We're all god's creatures" That quote, I'll remamber for the rest of my life. As for the film, i have no words to describe it, and even if I had, it wouldn't be enough

To the OP. When the video you post has soft dialogue; turn off the background music

4 out of 5 tracks have been removed. The last one containing the dialogue itself also has some background music. It's not possible to remove it.

"I will grind whatever grist the mill requires to fulfill my duty". Strange words in a day where some cannot define what a woman is, or decide which bathroom to use. Strange words to some, but not to all.
