More than anything... this song has a message... And David uses his intensity to make you think. He was trained as a cantor, so his voice is pure and his way of making you understand every word is well thought out and delivered brilliantly. There has never been a better cover of any song ever before... Makes me cry every time I hear it. The video is brilliannce too if you pay attention to the story. Well done Disturbed, absolute BRILLIANCE!
I love watching reactions to this video and seeing the enjoyment of hearing David Draiman's voice for the first time. It is so cool to see new generations discovering this. I saw it for the first time in 2015 at the age of 52 and was an instant Disturbed fan. Everytime I watch this I get more from it each time. Even Paul Simon who wrote the song told Disturbed that it is their song now. Glad you enjoyed it.
Disturbed is one of the best bands today, I'm my opinion. Not only is David's voice simply stunning, but the messages they bring with their music are so necessary in today's world. I'm glad to see one as young as you willing to explore different music styles and genres. Check out their song Reason to Fight. I think you'll love that one too.
Welcome to the world of reactor's disbelief of what they hear with David. As suggested by others, at least for the 20-piece orchestra behind him, watch the 3/28/2016 Conan O'Brien Show live performance. That performance has been viewed over 100 million times, the audience gave a standing ovation and applause for over 10 minutes, and the backstage people came out to see who was singing. I am 76 and remember when Simon & Garfunkel sang the song in 1964 and a lot of other people sang it. It wasn't until I heard Disturbed's version that I understood the song. Simon & Garfunkel sang it as a ballad and a plea but David makes it an angry cry the plea was not heeded. You probably would like "Hold on to Memories".
Music tells a story and David Dorman is tge best story teller out there. I'm an old lady and was around for tge original when my son turned me on to this version. I'm not a heavy etal lover but I had to do more research on Mr Dorman. This man is amazing and was quite surprised to learn he was classically trained. Best cover I have ever heard in my 64 years.
If you like his voice and ballads try Hold on to the Memories, Uninvited Guest and his newest duet with Ann Wilson from Heart Don’t tell me, released in November
Many have said his voice is both angel and devil. Totally get it. I grew up with the original and then I heard this. He was born to sing this song. On one page somebody posted that they had been in the audience that night and the live video cuts off after a bit of audience applause whereas in the studio the applause apparently went on and on and on. It makes many of us older folks cry. We were given the message back in 1963 and we didn't listen so now David has come to tell us of our stupidity.
You just got a hint, just a taste of why people love Metal music. It’s about that raw emotional power that a great metal vocalist can deliver. And yeah, usually metal has an angry vibe because anger is a very powerful emotion. Disturbed’s music is anger for a purpose. Most of their harder songs deal with a very profound reason for the anger, for instance, one addressed anger at holocaust denial etc. I recommend that you check out their other songs while following along with their lyrics. One of their softer hard songs i would recommend for you is, “if i ever lose my faith in you”. It’s about not losing faith in yourself in their version of that song. It is a cover of one of Stings classics. Check it out sometime. Very powerful music video visuals with that one.
The original is from the 1960s. Simon and Garfunkel. I love Disturbed version of this song, Pentatonix does a lovely version too. You should check out Disturbed's live version on the Conan O'Brien's show, you wouldn't believe that he had a cold during it, with a temperature. Happy New Year Chad.
This was written by Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel. It was written in the sixties. You should do a dive into their music. I bought a set called the essential Simon and Garfunkel and it consisted of 11 LP's. I would suggest "Bridge over Troubled Waters' and "The Boxer". they also do many ballads two of which I recommend are "A Most Peculiar Man" and "Richard Cory".
He comes from a long line of Jewish cantors. He ultimately was professionally trained to preserve his voice but just as a side note, in order to pay respect to his heritage and forefathers, he has never been tattooed. This is why he has the piercings. They can be removed when visiting his family in deference to their faith. Just made me respect him all the more.
Yes, Simon & Garfunkel were first and it was a zippy and kinda a happy song in spite of the lyrics. Pentatonix has a version of this song too! David, the lead singer from Disturbed, was raised Jewish and was trained as a Cantor. So there is experience here and he is stunning! He has the best distortion and growl in the business. Happy New Year! 🎆
I've always noticed that too. Really adds to the song plus the beautifully done Sounnnnnnnd at the very end where he holds it for almost 5 seconds then it fades to black silence except for the faint sound of the song ringing in the distance.
Some may not agree, but being very familiar with the original, PTX, and Disturbed's version... this is my take. The ORIGINAL by Simon and Garfunkel was very folksy, but a warning of people losing touch with each other and how this disconnect allowed "the Powers that be" to control "us"... Disturbed is the anger of those of us that actually got the message that the original wasn't heeded... Pentatonix version... is trying to more subtly to softly and poignantly wake people to the reality of the message. It's US against the Corporate Masters that want to control our lives by filling it with "things" and pitting us against each other to continue to control the Narrative.
It seems that you are brief reaction video was geared more toward the style the song and David's voice. I'm not sure if you actually went back to review the words and compare them with the style choices for each verse. If not, I believe you would find it even more impactful
I loved your reaction to this cover, so much symbolism in this cover, I am a child of the 60's when Simon & Garfunkel released the original in 1964 I was in high school, back then I considered it kind of country-ish, I liked it but the message didn't pierce the soul. This cover by Disturbed along with the video is the BEST it touches your soul and really gets S&G message to the core of my being and many others too, goosebumps and tears every time. "Neon God" in the 60's TV the advancement of technology NOW there is so many more especially cell phones. "Neon light that split the night", I remember when neon light would turn on there would be a crackling sound thus touched the sound of silence. Suggestion = The official video by Disturbed “Hold On To Memories” was released Jan 23rd 2020. “Hold on to Memories" is about not only honoring those we’ve lost, but also making the most of our time with those we still have.
You are not doing yourself and listeners any justice by constantly interrupting this genius. Tell us how you feel after the full experience or you loose the emotional experience you could have had.

The beginning is him bringing you in, sitting you down. Then blowing your mind. Loved this.
Thanks for watching! Yes he is amazing!
I grew up listening to the original and just love seeing this iconic song touching yet another generation, and in such a powerful way. Beautiful.

Oh nice! I’ll check out the PTX version too! Happy New Year!
Simon wrote the song after President John F. Kennedy was killed.
Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Obrigado. Fantástico!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷👍
Disturbs version is more a warning? Pentatonix's version has a hopeful feel. Both great. Listen to Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt, it's powerful too.
Oh wow! Ok!

So many miss the quiet in the beginning of this video … the sound of silence .
I've always noticed that too. Really adds to the song plus the beautifully done Sounnnnnnnd at the very end where he holds it for almost 5 seconds then it fades to black silence except for the faint sound of the song ringing in the distance.
To really appreciate how good this song is, you need to listen to the original first by Simon and Garfunkel, then listen to this updated version.
Ok! I will :)

If you like this style from them, check their song "the light"
Ok, i will!
Baratones this pure are few and far apart. Pull up David's bio. He's an enigma. Not just the front man for a heavy metal band.
Sorry, mate...your screen of the video is totally blurred.
Don’t be sorry. That would be because of copyright!
I've not seen anyone else blur the screen like that, most reactors would just pause the video if they are worried about copyright
Yep ! 😊

Please listen to the original by Simon and Garfunkel. The Sound Of Silence
ok, i will!
check out harry mack
ok :)
The mood of this song is in 2 halves. The first half of this song, the mood is DEPRESSION. The second half of of this song is RAGE.
Wow! That is amazing!
Actually I think it is a ballad. Read the words
it starts with silence, why is noone getting it?
Check it out, live on the Conan show. It is better
Okay ;)

The only reason your not a metalhead is because you haven't "listened" to metal - Iron Maiden "hallowed Be Thy Name" - will be your new fav lol
True true! I may love metal soon enough!
