Really digging the Sitka now, thanks for this thorough review. Also definitely appreciate the part where you show how it will actually look wearing it and accessing the bag. This is such a cool design!
Great review! I was looking at this bag recently, then saw your video and ordered one today. Gotta say, it was your review that really sold me on the bag, thanks for taking the time to really dig in and show all the details.
Bought mine and really like it. I've hooked a ton of pouches onto it and bought some cool patches, wish there was more patch space but oh well. I've got it almost all set up, not sure about the last of the space I have. Keeping it light and trying not to include expensive items in case of theft, don't want to lose a hundred dollar flashlight and a hundred dollar leatherman and a five hundred dollar camera. I'll probably put the camera in there, though, it's one of the reasons I bought it and one of my tablets. My buddy loves it and took all the info to buy it. I got brown which makes it hard to see inside, the price I was willing to pay for a color to be different than the norm. thx for the great review, you sold me.
it is an Israeli blanket so it isn't too thick. i think it could handle it. These maxpedition people put out some pretty cool stuff i picked up one of their rollypolly's not to long ago and those are just awesome.
Great review, you nailed this bag. I've had my gearslinger for over a year and love it on looong day hikes. The best part is that I'm able to access my pistol with a simple sling forward movement.
Wonderful video! I appreciate how you get to the meat and potatoes of the product, instead of just reading specs. Definitely not common. I will be snagging one of these within the next month in black. You've been very helpful indeed!
As I said in the video, I walked around with it in the woods with about 10lb's of gear inside comfortably for a few hours. I carried it to Blade show with me for a few hours with just some simple EDC gear inside, and it was very comfortable. Now owning the Pygmy Falcon II, I can say that I prefer having 2 shoulder straps for long carry time, for loads over 10lb's. If you're just carrying some extra things with you, I say Sitka. If you want a bail out or camping bag, I say a pack with 2 straps.
Great and informative video Sherman! I love this bag! Any question I may have had before about this bag, you have now answered. Thanks for this review!
@brutus4201 He said one of the flaws was it only had one bottle holder. That's not a flaw, it's a preference. Plus, you can keep a second water bottle under the crossed shock cord, that's what i did the other day. He didn't tighten the shoulder straps on his, so it was loose, as i stated in the video if you tighten it and use the cross strap, there's no way it's ever falling off. I jogged with it on, and it was perfect :)
I have actually never owned a 5.11 bag, so I really cant say either way. I know they are made very well, and if they make a pack that suits YOUR needs better than any Maxpedition bag, than go for it. If you have a Maxpedition pack and a 5.11 pack in mind and you like them both equally, I'd always choose Maxpedition. Simply for their quality and attention to detail.
Nice bag and great review. I don't like the way the main compartment doesn't unzip all the way so you can lay the bag out flat on both sides for ease of packing. I understand they want to control if from flopping open when you open it in front of you while carrying it, but there are other ways of doing that, with adjustable shock cords, etc.
That's an excellent review! I don't think anyone else on youtube even mentioned the whistle. As far as the paracord keeper is concerned, I saw a video by RoscoeBa that covered this, in which she used different coloured strings to make it less confusing. Basically, you secured the main compartment only, but those two small loops on the other side can also be used to secure both the front pockets as well, simultaneously.
@ZeroTechSkilz Thank you! And yeah, it really came in handy when i was walking through the woods, i couldn't set my pack down anywhere.. which is ok cause all i had to do was swing it around to my chest!
It is very comfortable up to about 10lbs, anything more and I'd look into the Pygmy Falcon II, slightly bigger, and has two shoulder straps. It is very strong, and the nylon is abrasion resistant.
I have had experience with the Falcon II, I own the slightly smaller version, the Pygmy Falcon II. I use it as my bug out bag. It depends on how much you want to carry, if you just want it for every day carry, carrying less than 10lb's of gear, than I think the Sitka is right for you. The Falcon II is much bigger, and is made for comfort when carrying 15+ pounds of gear. :)
Making these videos kinda suck at times but I appreciate you Sherman for doing them. I ALWAYS try and find some demo's on youtube before purchasing so I get a better idea of that they really do. Thanks for your time doing these buddy!!
Yeah, it's a great pack! I think the Y strap would hold it, but I'm not 100% on that, depends on how heavy it it. Cause I know my Falcon II's Y strap can hold a sleeping pad, and it's very similar to the one on the Sitka. Thank you for the sub!
@tekknorat I wasn't, man :) I took no offence, i know my vids are long and a lot of people will be turned off by that. But i make reviews that are true to my vision of a "good" review :) And thank you! I'm really glad you liked it, brother! Stay tuned for more gear!
Yes, I am right handed. Now, technically the S-Type was mad for left handed people. Their thinking is that if you're left handed, you'll be more comfortable grabbing the bottom grab handle and "slinging" the pack to your front side. And for most people, that is right., but for me for some reason I'm right handed yet feel more comfortable slinging this pack to my front side using my left hand. You'll have to think about which you might light more.
My honest opinion of this bag is that I can and mostly only carry it by hand. It is too small for all but the lightest essentials. I used it for work and as an admin bag it's perfect. As an EDC meant to carry medical supplies ... this is not for you. If you plan on hiking with it, it's a day hike only. Max weight 10lbs only. if you use the bladder compartment the back will blow out the back support and make it rounded. It's a very amazing beautiful bag that really doesn't do anything very well.
Would you by chance know how 5.11 holds up against Maxpedition? I keep on hearing that Maxpedition is bombproof and will last the rest of your life and that's something I value immensely, but I find that they lack the sheer organization that 5.11 puts into their sling packs. Often Maxpedition doesn't have the amount of internal storage and organization options that 5.11 does, is not as modular as 5.11 is (the tier system that allows 5.11 bags to clip onto bigger bags is amazing and can allow me to clip an edc bag onto a bug out bag with ease), often comes with pre-installed water bottle pockets on the side which prevents you from attaching your own preferred holders, and has sling straps that cater to a specific side unlike the 5.11s have ambidextrous straps that allow you to put it on any way you wish. I'm on the fence right now about which to buy. Everything is pointing towards a MOAB 10, but I don't want my bag ever failing me when I might need it. The only thing I love about Maxpedition is the alleged durability.
Nice reivew while I have a question about side straps against the water bottle side. In your video there are 6 straps but I usually only see 3 straps in other reviews even the official site pictures. So you did it by yourself or it's a different version?
hey i was thinking about buying this..the s-type even so i am glad you put this video out. I think this would be good to hold all my gear. I was thinking of using the y strap to hold my wool blanket you think it would be long enough to hold that? btw i subbed ya
@TheOldArmyVet Thank you, brother! That really means a lot to me that I'm put in the same category as sootch!! Lol! Just wait until i review my OTHER new gear ;)
Looks like a pretty good bag. too much for me to carry but would suit others well. Ive got 2 of the grimlocs on my remora. 1L nalgene hangs off one most days
I wish the side strap that clicked in, had molle options. and this bag with the right molle holster. you could have a chest carry holster and with it as s type for right handed. its the best place for smooth draw.
Also, one more quick question. That webbing on the lower strap part... will it accept one Single Sheath or two? I'm thinking... one shorter for multitool, then one longer for flashlight. I don't own the bag yet. Thinking of configurations. If that's a dumb idea, I'd appreciate the feedback =)
@TheOldArmyVet Thank you, brother! I really appreciate that :) Sootch's are better in my opinion, my vids seem to long sometimes lol! Lol! There are still more vids to come, my friend! ;)
@Pandaboxy I do plan on doing a loadout video soon actually :) I'll show what i carry in it, and talk about some things I'd like to carry in the future. Stay tuned for that video! Btw, you wont be disappointed with this bag :)
on 17:20, I thought I saw on another review that there was actually a little hidden compartment to put the extra strapping in between the actual side of the pack where the molle webbing is and the molle webbing on the side pad that your strap is currently connected to. Can you confirm?
Check out the vid on this bag from Neptuneknives. He returned this bag because he stated once you pack it out the design is flawed allowing the bag to fall off your back or slip off your shoulder. Did you experience anything like that? I love the bag and it's features but was hesitant to pull the trigger and order after seeing Neptune's vid. What's your take? Thanks, Brutus.
@deebs1596 It would be to much for EDC, but for walking through the woods and going hiking and walking, it's PERFECT! And the little Grimlocs are handy, brother!
I was thinking about buying this bag to use while metal detecting. Do you think that this bag will hold up against me storing odd shaped pieces of scrap metal and trash into it and would this bag be comfortable with a decent amount of weight in it?
weird question, you right handed right? Im getting the same pack so i want to make sure i buy the right one (the s type) so it goes over my right shoulder
@tekknorat Lol! I know my reviews are long, but i cant stand 8 minute long reviews on a large product. SO many key things get looked over. There was a lot to talk about with this bag, and i didn't want to leave anything out :) Thank you, man!
@sherman614, hey man first off great video and second, I was wandering if you could help me get started and be a sponsor of Maxpedition products like you and do video reviews on them from the perspective of a Teen cause I hoped that would be a good idea for marketing. Btw I was also wandering that if I do get started with this, the stuff that they send me, will I be able to keep them and can I choose the stuff they send like in particular the Maxpedition Sitka S-Type Gearslinger (Black)?
Best review I've seen yet on this bag.
Really digging the Sitka now, thanks for this thorough review. Also definitely appreciate the part where you show how it will actually look wearing it and accessing the bag. This is such a cool design!

Oh absolutely! If you have any questions about size, just watch the video, I go into the exact dimensions of all pockets :)
it is an Israeli blanket so it isn't too thick. i think it could handle it. These maxpedition people put out some pretty cool stuff i picked up one of their rollypolly's not to long ago and those are just awesome.

CAN YOU WEAR IT ON THE FRONT LIKE A HILL PEOPLE GEAR KIT BAG?(FULL TIME) ALSO DOES THE STRAP DIG INTO THE TRAPS/NECK AND HURT?
Great and informative video Sherman! I love this bag! Any question I may have had before about this bag, you have now answered. Thanks for this review!
Another great video sherman614! Thanks! I have a Sitka coming tomorrow and can't wait! I'll be using it for EDC, work and travel.
@brutus4201

ANY REASON YOU CANT WEAR THIS TO THE FRONT...ALWAYS? DOES IT HURT
@@BOOSTEDLASER You COULD, but it would get in the way and if you had any significant weight in it, it would pull on you and possibly hurt your back.

This was an excellent review very thorough. It helped me a lot, I'm gonna use this as my bug out bag. Thanks!
Nice review mate, very in-depth. At least now I know what I’m getting if I buy one.
@ZeroTechSkilz
Thank you! And yeah, it really came in handy when i was walking through the woods, i couldn't set my pack down anywhere.. which is ok cause all i had to do was swing it around to my chest!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that, and continue to try to make my videos better
Really great review. I'm LEO and I use this as my tactical murse.
As a 15" MacBook Pro is a snug fit in there, it will probably accept Letter format printing paper. Sturdy map recommended for protection.
I live your reviews.. you show people What the packs look like on the body and That's something that most RUclips reviewers don't do.
Yeah, it's a great pack! I think the Y strap would hold it, but I'm not 100% on that, depends on how heavy it it. Cause I know my Falcon II's Y strap can hold a sleeping pad, and it's very similar to the one on the Sitka. Thank you for the sub!
Nice job. I just bought one! You convinced me.
This is an excellent review. Thank you!

pro!
i just wanna know if the Jetboil will match over there where is the water bottle ?

Thank you very much! :) And I'm not sure, I don't own one of those. But It probably would, I've seen pictures of them.
The explanation at 15:05: hella nice touch, man.
Thank you! I'm glad I could help you out
How its the carrying comfort for your back over time considering its a single sling pack? Very good review. Jorgen Norway.
great review. I just bought a Typhoon and love it .
Nice review!! I got that same Don't tread on me patch!
Great review, I'm debating on getting this bag or the Monsoon.
hey i was thinking about buying this..the s-type even so i am glad you put this video out. I think this would be good to hold all my gear. I was thinking of using the y strap to hold my wool blanket you think it would be long enough to hold that? btw i subbed ya
Do you plan on making a video of what you carry in the bag?
@TheOldArmyVet
Thank you, brother! That really means a lot to me that I'm put in the same category as sootch!!
Lol! Just wait until i review my OTHER new gear ;)
It was some swag I picked up at Blade show one year
I have both and the Sitka has taken over.
Man a very detailed review! Great job!
Looks like a pretty good bag. too much for me to carry but would suit others well.
Ive got 2 of the grimlocs on my remora. 1L nalgene hangs off one most days

Hey ;o) Are you going to show us what's inside your Sitka? I'm thinking of getting one, thanks!
Great review. Really helps my with my purchase. Thanks!
excellent review, think I'm on my way to buy one now.
This bag, and the bigger Kodiak, can they carry the Osprey brand bladder or is it designed more for the camelbak bladder?
awesome review! ive been researching for awhile, looking for a new pack and i think i found the one. Thanks man
@ZJayStudio
Of course! :)
Good review... Love Maxpedition products, best quality bags by far 😊

Thank you, brother! I really appreciate that :) Sootch's are better in my opinion, my vids seem to long sometimes lol!
Lol! There are still more vids to come, my friend! ;)
Not a dumb question at all! It's looking like it can only hold one sheath.
Great review, Sherman!!! 👍
I'm not 100% sure, I've never put a water bladder in mine. But, I know that the Sitka is compatible with a 100oz water bladder
@Pandaboxy
I do plan on doing a loadout video soon actually :) I'll show what i carry in it, and talk about some things I'd like to carry in the future. Stay tuned for that video!
Btw, you wont be disappointed with this bag :)
@NeptuneKnives
Thank you, brotha man! :) God bless

@WesternBushcraft
It is amazing! I know this is going to sound cheesy, but i don't know how i got along without it!

Perfect gearslinger for motorcycle riders.
Tnx for great and detailed review. Really useful.
@deebs1596
It would be to much for EDC, but for walking through the woods and going hiking and walking, it's PERFECT!
And the little Grimlocs are handy, brother!
I suppose I'll just have to try for myself then! Thanks for the response. :)
hey sherman gr8 review bro really gr8 thanks for the info
Hey sherman was wondering if there is a loop in the area that takes the hydration bladder to hang on?
Love the reviews and videos.
Yes it can
I was thinking about buying this bag to use while metal detecting. Do you think that this bag will hold up against me storing odd shaped pieces of scrap metal and trash into it and would this bag be comfortable with a decent amount of weight in it?
Hi, to have a better idea how it will look on my back, how tall are you?
Nice video. Cheers
Thanks, we are about the same size, I am 6'
Thank you, brother!
weird question, you right handed right? Im getting the same pack so i want to make sure i buy the right one (the s type) so it goes over my right shoulder
Can you wear it like a regular backpack but just on one shoulder and if so is it comfortable like that?
What do you mean?
Thank you very much (: And you're welcome!
Do you think this can hold 2 binders and a small text book? I would really like to use this for school and I'm in need of a new backpack
The bag is cool, but I prefer my Hazard4 Switchback. But they are similar.
Sherman, what would be your input on if the pack would work well carrying a macbook pro? Thanks in advance!!
Would you recommend this bag for school? Is it large enough to hold notebooks?
I think you put the anti theft strap through the zipper loop
That's what I suspected. Thanks a bunch!
Can you fit sheets of computer paper in it?
@tekknorat
Lol! I know my reviews are long, but i cant stand 8 minute long reviews on a large product. SO many key things get looked over. There was a lot to talk about with this bag, and i didn't want to leave anything out :) Thank you, man!
So it really can't fit letter size sheets even after breaking in?
I purchased one of these for carrying. My 14 inch laptop and there was still lots of room inside
Superb review!
I am a right handed, right shoulder carry. Would I have any issues getting to my CCW in this bag???? Please help
dustin decker You shouldn't, no. Because the CCW pocket is oriented to be accessed no matter which side you carry
Like me you'll just need to buy the regular Sitka and not the S-type/southpaw version.
Hy nice video , im am right hand user , waht bag y have to buy?
s Type or the normal one?
Typically if you're right handed, you'll get the normal one. I however am right handed and prefer the S-type
Im not a real big fan of gear slingers but thats a nice bag man. Looks just as good as my Sabercat :)
great review
Where did you get your esee patch?
i dont know whether i should get this or the Sabercat versipack, anyone have any ideas?
@epicblade529
Yes :)
