  • In this eye opening Talk about impacts of colonialism, celebrated mathematician Dr. C K Raju talks about the myth that ‘Discovery of India’ by Vasco Da Gama. He talks about how we still think from the perspective of the colonizers like the Portuguese and the British when we say that they ‘discovered’ India, like India never existed before their ‘discovery’.
    C K Raju comes up to contradict the claim that Da Gama even discovered the route to India too. It is with the help of an Indian navigation, Kanak and his instrument ‘kamal’ or ‘rapalgai’ with which Da Gama ‘discovered’ the route to India. Da Gama did not discover any route to India. The sea route from Africa to India was known to the navigators from both of these places. He then gives examples to illustrate that the sea route to India was known to Alexander’s armies, to the Roman Army and much before that even in the times of the Harappan civilization.
    According to a dominant belief in Christianity, the first Christian to see a land becomes its owner. In 1823, this dogma was a part of US law! Hence "Red Indians" had lost their right to land in Americas after being "discovered" by Christians. The dogma of Christianity led Christians to genocide and enslave non-Christians. The Native Americans were exterminated en masse by the Christians. Millions upon millions were killed. Indians in India survived this genocide because India was superior in military skills and Da Gama was not match for Vijaynagar Empire and Mughal Empire.
    This is what the Christians meant by ‘discovery’. C K Raju laments that this myth of discovery is still being taught in Indian schools perpetrating the falsehood, falsifying history and most importantly hiding the crimes of Christianity. He also talks about other appropriations of discovery and inventions of other non-Christian civilizations which the European Christians stole.

      Even this political independence was more of an an illusion. This was only a colonial readjustment or a neo-colonialism. But your goodself will not believe that even this neo Colonialism was sacrificed for the sake of so called globalisation in 1990s in which everything national or indigenous was rejected.
      What is the net result. Wage labour now sells for as low as 1-2 dollor per day for 10-12 hours per day or just roams about aimlessly for saving its life from global dumb and deaf giants.

    Ancient Romans and Mongols had so much in common. Their native homelands were both an intellectual, spiritual, and cultural desert; they were both savage fighting machines that always wanted to invade and conquer the much much more developed and advanced geographic south; they both contributed practically nothing to the world besides misery and bloodshed, and intellectual, spritural, and cultural theft.

      S Saxena: No, nature did that.
      In cultural terms, most ancient literatures portray themes ranging from homosexual love (the _Epic of Gilgamesh_ ) to gender fluidity (very common in Indian classics).

    • @saxenas
      @saxenas 6 лет назад

      PastPresented I don't know much about the epic of gilgamesh, but the gender fluidity in Indian classics doesn't necessarily mean homosexual love between man and man. And I'm inclined to believe that interpretations of indian texts concluding that there was man on man love in ancient India are inaccurate interpretations perhaps even fueled by anti-India bias. Because I know that there's so much false facts being spewed regarding ancient India by western academians and the like. I've seen the erotic art statues in India but never saw man on man love specifically. Don't you think that would have been depicted in the ancient indian statues?

    • @PastPresented

    • @saxenas
      @saxenas 6 лет назад

      PastPresented do you happen to have a picture that shows the bestiality statue depiction along with other parts of the Kandariya Mahadeva temple? Because it looks like those particular statues depicting bestiality are not from Kandariya Mahadeva temple because those statues look different from the other erotic art at that temple in terms of how the people look etc. Looks like a totally different artist who made this particular art altogether. Also, it looks fishy seeing that one person in the back closing his or her eyes as if to indicate that bestiality is shameful. In none of the other erotic art depictions at that temple do any of the statue depictions depict shame; they only depict love and pleasure but not in a perverse way. Why would a temple depict shame in their own art? If ancient indians were advocates of bestialtiy, then why would they depict it as shameful as the art you presented clearly depicts? The particular art you have presented is the only erotic art i could find in ancient india via google search that depicts bestiality; all the other art at that temple only depicts heterosexual love or one man with multiple women. Also, it doesn't make sense to promote bestiality because of the diseases one can easily get from having sex with animals. Ancient Indians weren't dumb like that.

It becomes more intriguing when I came to know that were manufacturing worlds best steel called WUTZ IRON and Michael Faraday came to India only to study the method of making such finest steel . I'm surprised how I can relate to this talk so much. Specifically, how even higher education nowadays makes categorical errors in sorting out events and trends. As the good lecturer mentioned the sea routes to India from Egypt being known since Alexander's time, at least-- The west is so in love with their narrative regarding history, especially the things which are left out, e.g. everyone knows of the Holocaust, fewer of the Holodomor, and basically only Roma specialists are familiar with the Pharraimos. Especially western academia really needs to see the world with fresh eyes, and practice *real* diversity, that being voluntary and purposeful study of foreign points of view, especially when they are critical of their thinking.
    Thesis, anti-thesis, synthesis and so on; this is all according to basic scientific and humanistic principles, I'd argue.

    we need more honest and fearless gentleman like raju sir, not only in india but whole of south asia to educate us. today the whole young generation all of asia no matter if its india or china or korea or etc etc, have totally been so narrowminded...they all dress like the same, walk like the same, listen kinda a the same, behave kinda the same. worlds getting global, in part is a good thing with its advantage but also the same time have messed up our distinctiveness...our differences. a garden is truly beautiful when there is a variety which comes together in nature to form an art, slowly and sadly it is fading away, particularly with this new and young generation.
    i might be wrong but too much focus on western culture and trends. and i hope am right in to say that you know what it is when you look around you no matter wr u at in asia.

    Our independent India started with a clown calling himself Pundit ( with no degree ) and appointment of a Mecca born , madrassa educated man as an education minister ! There started the misinformation campaign and an age of ignorance was ushered in . To this day we are suffering the consequences of these blunders . Gandhi was a co_conspirator in all this .

    Europeans dont brag about the sea route from africa to india . They applaud vasco dagama for navigating cape of good hope. Bcz after islamization of middle east the land route to horn of africa was out of bounds to european 🙄
    Navigation of cape of good hope was remarkable bcz of the rough and sea pirates .

      All European colonisers were competitive pirates once they were on sea, and the British turned out to be most successful!
