Friends,
Stevie Ray Vaughan is without a doubt a legend in the guitar world. He sadly passed away in 1990, I remember that like it was yesterday, I was just starting to make some real progress on the guitar (after trying to teach myself and wasting about 4 years on the guitar) and I remember it on the news and it was all over the guitar magazines.
This famous performance at Austin City Limits in October of 1989 (I watched it at that time and recorded it on my VHS, I also noticed his string break and witnessed the crazy transition of guitars.
This video has really caught on in recent years in the RUclips world with reaction videos.
But I go further into this than just a typical reaction video, there is a deeper discussion here!
#srv #austincitylimits #stringbreak
Friends, here is my latest SRV reaction video posted just now! ruclips.net/video/YvgEFpxwtCw/видео.html
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 THE goat of all goats
He was incredibly kind and humble. Thank you for sharing that about him. I was lucky enough to spend just a small amount of time with him in his last years. Please do more reactions of his music. I want the world to know him. Some of my favorites are “Tin Pan Alley” featuring Johnny Copeland, and from the El Macombo concert, “Texas Flood,” “Little Wing “ and “Lenny.” For starters… thanks again, Donna G❤️
Thank you 🙏
Stevie Ray Vaughan.. NOTHING ELSE TO SAY!!!
Stevie was out of this world, my mother in law actually introduced me to his music 😂
He was a legend, a one in a million. When he passed that was when I was really making strides on the guitar, I knew he was good but I couldn't appreciate him the way I could later on...
If there wasn't video evidence no one would have known he broke a string from just listening to the song
For sure! :)
In 1985 I saw SRV open up for Dire Straits during the Brothers in arms tour - I got to see 2 of top 5 favorite guitarists of all time that night in SRV & Mark Knopfler. The other 3 are Alex Lifeson, Peter Frampton and David Gilmour
That's amazing!
I was there for this taping. Austin City Limits was a ritual for a lot of us. I was a 6th Street rat and saw him performing for free in his early days. What a magician.
Cynthia.... that is just AMAZING that you got to see him perform live!!
That roadie was Rene Martinez, Stevie's guitar tech. He was always ready because Stevie broke a lot of strings.
Love this -- if you weren't watching, you'd never know that anything happened :) -- sort of like the Texas Flood at El Mocambo -- if you didn't see it, you'd never know when he threw it behind his back... lol
Just living in Austin during those days. Clifford Antone and what he did for Austin. It can't be overstated. SRV was the result of that in a way even though he was a Dallas guy. But, what Clifford did for Austin...and there were others...don't get me wrong ...but man...Austin in the 80's...wow. So glad I was there. Best times of MY life. And I've had some pretty good times since.
That is awesome that you were around there for the scene at that time!
Stevie was the best ax man on the planet
He was a legend! :)
Great post. I didn’t get into him until well after his death. He was truly a badass. Riviera Paradise, Lenny and his version of Little Wing
Definitely a legend for sure! 🎸
I remember where I was, what I was doing and who walked up to me and said, "I have bad news. Stevie Ray is gone!"
Yes, please do a reaction on him doing life without you at the capital in NJ.
Geezers like me remember the kbd player from the prog group 'Captain Beyond', waaay back.
Check out Stevie playing little wing live
Just spell binding
Would appreciate your take on his "Life Without You" live from the Capitol Theatre if you haven't seen that one yet.
I will do that for sure! Thank you 🙏
He swaps guitar in this performance also. Most people say due to a broken string but I have yet to see one broken
The G O A T!
He sure is! 🎸🎶
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar As I drive to work in central London UK, windows downs, the whole street listening to Texas Flood :}
Brian May must use a floating bridge, because there is a video of him leaving the stage midsong to deal with a broken string. Mercury basically vamps until May returns, and most of the audience probably didn't realize what happened.
Well, that's perhaps the greatest guitarist that's ever lived. So....
#1 didn’t have a fixed bridge it was a regular strat with a trem.
I think it was even installed upside down so that the bar was on top. At least that was one of the configurations #1 went through I it’s life.
it was also an adapted left handed tremolo bridge where the whammy bar attaches on the top end, which explains his confusion because it isn't as obvious visually as if it were on the bottom end.
I think what he was trying to express was that the trem most likely wasn’t set up as floating. Fender trems are designed to float(allow a light increase in pitch as well as decrease), but many players set the spring tension high enough that the rear of the trem is making solid contact with the body, which eliminates the tuning issue. Rene may have even been putting a block in there, fully turning into a fixed bridge, on songs that Stevie didn’t use it. He typically only used it on songs like Lenny and Riviera Paradise. Stevie did pull out the occasional dive bomb, but he did it showman style (aka living dangerously) by pushing on the back of the headstock. B.T.W If you do set up your strat trem to sit flush against the body, all of your whammy vibrato is flat vs the fundamental and it is harder to make it sound natural.
@@curtsnellgrove3538 true but he was stating that even with the bridge being flush a string break would cause some pitch change on the other 5 strings. He never played lenny on #1 so I believe #1 is set up different. I’ve only seen him #1s trem on voodoo child and say what although it was heavily used as he often broke the tremolo arms.
Friends, just wanted to let everyone know that I did make a reaction video to SRV Live at the El Mocambo "Texas Flood" but it was blocked on RUclips. I tried......
I saw on other channels that the guy who swapped out the guitar was his lesser famous brother Jimmy
Yeah, that wasn't just any old roadie, that would be the legend Reme Martinez !!!
Please react to Stevie Ray Vaughan, "Texas Flood" LIVE at the El Macombo. It' truly is a masterpiece! Thanks. :)
I will definitely do that! I’ve never been at the El Mocambo drove by it many times 🎸🎶
Sadly, my video on this was blocked by RUclips, but yesterday I posted a reaction to his Voodoo Child performance live in Nashville :)
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar, just a little tip: it's not 'Live at The El Mocambo' (which means 'The Hut'). It's 'Live at El Mocambo'. The word 'El' means 'the'. The phrase 'Live at the El Mocambo' means 'Live at The The El Mocambo'. The second definite article is superfluous.
Thank you for all feedback! What are other videos you would like to see my reaction and feedback on? Comment below ⬇️ thank you so much my friends! 🙏
SRV - Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland
@@richardfarina8165 I will check that out!
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar - IMO the best live performance that highlights SRV voice and his respect for one of his mentors Johnny Copeland. If you watch Stevie and DT they know it is a special performance. Enjoy!
Reese Wynans is the current keyboard player for Joe Bonamassa!
That is sooooo cool! I didn’t know that! 😊🎸🎶
Check out Sugar Coated Love album by Lou Ann Barton, there are several tracks with Stevie at 17. Jim
I will definitely do that :)
Is Crazy Horse to Neil Young as Double Trouble was to SRV ?
What's your opinion on this amazing keyboardist vs Paul Shaffer?
That’s a really good question! I will do a video out it 🙂
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar just subbed! Good work.
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar SRV did Tightrope on Letterman, after SRV of course, the bassist there kind of stole the show in Paul's band-not Wings,
Reese still plays with Joe Bonamassa.
You said he broke a string, finished the song, and changed guitars between songs. He didn’t. He played with a broken string until the replacement guitar showed up and changed during the song. This shows more skill than you gave him credit for. Playing around a broken string is awesome but so is. Hanging guitar mid song without missing a beat.
Ok y'all... Imagine how hard it is to break a 14 or 15? I play 9, 10, 11. Look at his fingertips.
a lecture!!!!!!
You really need to upgrade your audio, wow it is garbage on play with my system, and yes I have a great system.
You're in the music biz and have an ear for sound? The volume of the SRV vid is WAY too low. If you turn the volume up to appreciate SRV it's ok till you make a comment and blow our ears off. Balance, please balance.
Lana this video was made some time ago, please note the production of my videos have come a long way. :)
He was a master of the guitar. An absolute natural guitarist.
He sure was! May he rest in peace forever!
