Thank you so much. I hadn't done embroidery in 30 years & I used to buy floss that was already in lengths so I only had to pull out the individuals which made sense to me. These long skeins were driving me mad. This has saved my sanity.
Thank you so much for this, I’ve been cross stitching for a few months now and have tangled/ruined so many skeins 😂 I’m really grateful you made a video on how to do it properly!❤
Thanks for sacrificing that first skein to show us! 😆 I've been guilty of that - in fact, I'm starting to realise I've developed and kept some very bad habits during 30-odd yrs of cross-stitching.
I still haven't dealt with that skein 😂 I like to say there's no right or wrong way to cross stitch...only the way that's right for you and if that includes 'bad habits' then so be it! If you're having fun then it's all good 😄
Thank you for showing me what the strands look like! I’m a beginner and currently learning and understanding how embroidery works! I was reading an instructions on the strands. I didn’t understand it until I came across this video. You showed me what strands look like so for that, thank you so much! So helpful 🥺
As a beginner I love this tutorial! you teach things really well. I cannot learn if I don’t understand why something needs to be done a certain way. So you showing what would happen if done the wrong way THEN the right way is brilliant, and made things clear as water! great teacher
Thank you so much, that's really sweet of you 😊 I'm delighted I made it so clear for you...and yup, I definitely like to understand the why of things not just the how!
Thank you! I'm organizing a collection of floss that spans many decades, yes, decades 😬. I kept getting a tangled mess and even though I'm really good, and patient enough, to get it straightened out and onto the bobbin I knew there had to be a better method to the madness and viola, there is! So glad I found your video. Thanks for the tips. 👍😁
Oh my gosh...I've been meaning to look this up for quite a while, just in case there was a hack. I had NO idea it mattered which end you pulled the thread from! I just figured sometimes I got lucky and it didn't get tangled, and sometimes I didn't. THANK YOU! You have saved me so much further frustration!!!
i really thought i was screwed because i had already wound onto a bobbin and i wanted full length single strands, but nope! you did not steer me wrong!
I'd begun to very much dislike leaving my floss in the original skeins for that exact reason. I had no idea that there was a right end to pull from. I'm very excited to begin not disliking the skeins anymore 😅😁
Hi Kat, Great advice! now I need to pull individual strands for crochet, and would like them to be full length. Do you have any advice on how to do it? Thanks in advance!💝
Hey, I'm delighted you found this useful and in fact I have just the answer to your question about pulling out the whole skein as part of another video. If you head to ruclips.net/video/_39SLN9OVe4/видео.html and timestamp 04:34 you can see me pull out the entire length of thread from the skein. I am now realising it might be helpful for me to clip this out into a separate video but hey, at least it's there for you to see!
You're welcome 😊 Sadly I think the only way to deal with a tangled skein is a lot of patience to slowly slowly unravel it. I just find one end and feed it back through all the loops and knots until it's all loose.
Oh no...sorry you had the tangly skein experience 😬 I'm afraid I don't have a tutorial on how to untangle it but you have 2 options... carefully pick at it to untangle it or just cut the tangle out and discard it then use the rest. It depends how much patience and time you have 😂
I'm not entirely sure what you mean but I guess this must be a different type of DMC thread than the 6 stranded cotton embroidery thread I used in the video? I would have no idea how to deal with that I'm afraid.
Ooooh, now that is a challenge. I don't think I have any further advice for this, just unwind the whole skein and lay it out as flat as you can then start pulling 1 strand. You'll probably need to slowly work it along and keep pushing the rest of the bundle of threads flat as you go. It just might not work for the whole 8m length but good luck!
@@catkinandlillie actually I used your technique the other day and it went so easy I couldn't believe it. I did as you say here slowly unwind the skein as I went along but it wasn't that bad. Way easier than I expected. Thank you!

Mine don't have ends. They're tied. Also DMC.
