I have been living in New York City for Over 35 years. I have never been so scare to walk on the street. My 20 years old daughter is always scare to take the train to go to college. My family of 6 will be voting for Zeldin. We are so tired of these evils Democrats. Time for a change.
Spread the word. Hochul wants to build concentration camps, she was stopped but after the election she will appeal. She wants to put people in camps at HER direction who don't bow to her tyranny and policies. IF she wins she will turn NY into Germany 2.0. In other words she will slaughtering all of us who don't bend the knee to her, the law won't matter as she did not go through the legislature to pass this, but the health department and has abused her executive powers.

I definitely noticed that also. I'm registered independent. I'm about 20 minutes in. I'm leaning towards voting for Zeldin. As a black voter, it really just sounds like 90 percent of what they are fighting for is going to back fire in my face. I'm all about improving crime, but what that tends to look like is people in The Bronx and Brooklyn who can barely afford a metro card facing arrest for jumping a turnstyle. The system is a mess. There's really no solid solution.

I'm an independent, and I can say that Lee Zeldin clearly won this debate by a wide margin. It wasn't even close. One would have to be insane to consider voting for Hochul or for any Democrat in this election.
and everyone including Hochul knew he would. That is why she delayed to the last minute and refused to have anything but one debate, in NYC, and on a channel only a small part of NY gets. I live in Zeldin's neighborhood and didn't even see coverage on the local news of this occurring. To find it live on Long Island you needed to know to go to Cablevision channel 64... I can legitimately say I never heard of the channel and it was only a single special airing.

Before I watched this I wanted to be very objective but after watching can anyone here give me one good reason to keep Hochul in office?

Zeldin got my vote. I live near his district and he saved a coworker of mine by my coworker lost his job and has a family and kids obv. Nys held onto his unemployment for some reason and it’s was months without pay. They gave him the run around for months. Right before he was about to lose his home, lee Zeldin stepped in and contacted ny dept of labor and fixed it for him and was able to get current amount and all back pay and saved him from being homeless with a wife and young children. No questions asked. Just handled it and got it fast for him. Thank you Lee!

Exactly Hochul is a tyrant. She want to build concentration camps and put people in there at HER discretion, she was stopped but after the elections she will appeal which means NY will become Germany 2.0.

Deep blue and Deep red states changing the fool at the very top is just a protest vote. I lived in Chris Christie's NJ for 7 years. I liked that he took on some special interests - contractors / unions but he had to deal with a Dem Congress so there were no massive reforms anywhere. Who cares if in a deep blue state you change the figure at the top. If one party rule drives your state 6 feet deep on 4 stakes, better expedite it.

Great job Spectrum on how you set this up. One request: as a former moderator as a courtesy let each candidate know when their time is running out by using a standard 15 seconds announcement. It's a shame the Governor refused to have more than one debate since we are living in some of the worst times in NYS history. Lee Zeldin is a much better candidate this time around. He's a great debater and exemplifies what an effective leader can be. Crimes occur due to a lack of respect for the law. He will reinstill that in New Yorkers and those that defy the law will face the consequences. Andrew Cuomo basically said the same things, yet no one questioned his authority.

Black, millennial and a registered Democrat in NY. I voted for Andrew Cuomo 2x and thought he was a good Governor. Kathy Hochul cannot shine Cuomo's shoes. I had some concerns with Zeldin over his party's support for some social issues, but he has effectively put those concerns to rest. Crime and Inflation is #1 for me. 2 Democratic votes in this house for Lee Zeldin.
Good for you for being open minded. It's not really about which party they are in but what they plan to do for us, the citizens of the state. I'm a registered Republican but there are Republicans that I can't stand. We have to look at what's good for us over whether or not "our" party wins. I really think a move away from the 2 party system is needed.
That's the difference when people come to the right side. They are welcomed with open arms as opposed to the left destroying political opponents in any way possible.

At least with a 2 party system, more than 50% of the people are needed, in a lets say, 4 party system, politicians would only need about 27-30% of the vote to win, that doesn't seem fair to the other 70-73% of the people who did not vote for that 1 politician. I do agree with everythin else you have said thou.

When you had a Republican Governor last time, you had a booming economy, and safe streets.
When you had a Republican Mayor, crime plummeted.
When you had a Democrat Governor, crime soared and you were locked down and forced to obey while criminals burned the city down in protests.
It's clear who to vote for.

Watching the passion of this lee guy and the lack of passion from hochul makes me realize that I might be voting and I can’t believe I’m saying this For a Republican candidate. 🤦🏻. probably not. there hasn't been a Republican Governor of New York since George Pataki which was 1995-2006.
Maybe a governor. But as of congress in the state, it will stay democratic. But also, many republicans in New York are more moderate or are moderately liberal in some policies like they are in New England. They aren’t like the conservatives like they have in the south or parts of the Midwest.
@@underground9260 exactly. if i remember correctly the last Republican Governor here in NYS was Pataki, who was very moderate, and i thought Giuliani was a great mayor of NYC, but now he's not very moderate.

The gun thing is pretty irrelevant too considering most of the crime on the streets have NOT been gun-related - but alas that is her single talking point when it comes to crime. At least Zeldin gave a semi-believable response on not being able to change abortion laws to calm fears of the center/center-left - Hochul did nothing to rebut her incompetence (or willful disregard) on crime other than show she really just doesn't get it.

Zeldin definitely nailed it here. Yes he is a known Trump supporter and even accepted an endorsement from the latter last week (whether that's beneficial or detrimental is up to you to decide), but IMO that was secondary to rampant crime, the failures of bail reform, the stagnant economy, anti-American wokeness, the fallout from COVID-19, and so on. Unfortunately Kathy Hochul’s response to the issues was deadpan, monotonous, confusing and not at all blunt or detailed. Zeldin was a different story entirely.
He got the support of the best President, by every metric, ever. He tweeted mean things, and if that broke your brain.... GOOD, you pathetic, petulant children.
The rediculous thing about all this is that crime in new York is actually lower then average! NYS ranks 10th lowest for crime and even the NYC rate of crime (where i live) is below average for an American city. this debate made me feel that zeldin was just fear mongering for an issue that is statistically not as bad as he's saying.

Stop judging others by their bloody friends or personal failings, as if any human is perfect, and judge thrm on their policies that will directly effect your lives. Being a casual associate of Trump effects my life not one iota, but getting crime under control most certainly does.
