How to Make Great Films ANYWHERE

- Most of you probably don't live in Bali or Iceland, but that shouldn't stop you from making great films. In this moody and cinematic vlog, I'm sharing some practices that have helped me to make the most of my own "boring location" in the Carolinas.

Someone once told me, "Places aren't boring, it's the person that's boring."
It's stuck with me all these years.
12:40 you added in the car sounds from the next shot and my anxiety went through the ROOF thinking you were about to get run over
While watching this, pay attention to how many times Aiden has to leave a camera somewhere, then go back and get it 😂 or he'll set up a camera before getting somewhere, then going back and making it appear like he's actually arriving for the first time ha! That's a lot of effort and dedication, mad props.
At first I wasn't sure he was alone, and then once I realised it, supes impressed. Just wow.
Reminds me of a quote from thomas heaton. "For every hill I climb, I climb twice. One for you, and one for me."
Such dedication.
Yup! You said it first!
Sometimes it works for me, some others it disconnects me from the video and I ask myself: is this a vlog or a movie? Aaaah this is a cinematic vlog.
Search for this same topic on Camera conspiracies channel.
Go watch Kraig Adams videos and you'll be even more mindblown!
Or that drone footage
Man, color grade is AMAZING, the atmosphere of the forest is conveyed to the maximum 😍
Absolutely love it! 🌲
Thank you! Always the goal :)

“The grass is greener on the other side” is so true. I live in Arizona and when I first picked up a camera everything I shot seemed new to me. Like I’m seeing things for the first time again. But after a while I got tired of the desert landscape coz everything just looked so “brown.” I later realized it’s not the place that’s the problem, but I should just extend the areas I explore more.
For me, however, seeing other people’s photos on social media especially local places makes me appreciate where I live. They see something beautiful that I can’t and it’s just a nice reminder from time to time.
Thank you for another great lesson! 😉
I don’t know how I landed on your channel, maybe via Peter McKinnon, but honestly your content from overall presentation, the quality of your shots, the solid editing, attentive sound design, in-depth tutorials, and overall scope of insight and knowledge you articulately share is amazing. Props dude! I live in San Francisco and discovered All Trails a while back and have found so many new vistas to shoot and become inspired by. In fact I found one unmarked trail that led to one of the most amazing vistas of the GG Bridge I’ve ever seen, and I grew up here. I’ll have to make a video of that spot and share it with you the next time I go back up. Amazing content, especially given you shot and edited this video all on your own.
Takeaway - no matter where we live, new gems can be discovered when we push ourselves beyond our comfort zone.
This is definitely one of the best vlogs I’ve ever seen. A great point is also how great is to shot a vlog outside. I’ve been trying to get a better vlog setup indoor playing around with lights and location indoor to get a good depth of field. Thinking about it, you go outside and the location is stunning and light is FREE!!!!!!! 😂😂😂
Really appreciate that dude! Outside is almost always better imo ;)
I'm not first, i'm not last, but when Aidin posts I click really fast!
Damn 🔥
Aidin: Mother nature does it BEST!
Also Aidin: Damn birds! I'm filming!
This is exactly what I needed t see right now. Thank you, Aidin. When I started my RUclips journey in 2017, I had to stop for many reasons, but now I am coming back, and I struggle. The lack of creative flow is crazy. Watching this vlog makes me realise that I never explore my backyard and there's so much that see, film and photograph around. I'll be going out and explore no matter the weather. Thanks again for the beautiful, inspiring vlog. I guess I must subscribe now 👍
Absolutely! Glad this could help you out :)
Aidin has been producing absolute bangers for sometime now ❤️
Really appreciate it! 🙌
Facts 🔥
Totally agree 👍
Every natural landscape out there is dope!! Great mindset!
I have been an upside down and backward person in most everything I do including photography and videography. It was the move to New Mexico from Florida that pushed me in the direction of photography. Like you say living in Florida most of my life and seeing all the wonderful photography opportunities that are there was old news but after arriving in New Mexico with all the mountains, bluffs and mesas I had to share it with friends and family back east. now after a year learning digital photography, hiking new places, learning my way around RUclips as well as the editing process I seem to have a great new hobby that gets me outside. Thanks for reminding me it's about the journey and pleasure of creating and not about the RUclips analytics. love your channel.
Thank you for always being an inspiration! Also, I just want to commend you on your incredibly crisp audio every single time. The visuals are always great but it blows my mind how good your sound design is every time. Thank you always!
This was by far one of the best vlogs I've seen to date, the music, the color grade, and the locations just the mood perfectly. Makes me wanna go out to a nearby park and make the most of what it has to offer. Thanks for the inspiration bro!!!
Luv the calming beauty that those small scenes have, especially when you walked into the coffee shop. One day I'd like to spend some of my life being a traveler/photographer but thank you for your sweet advice.
Thank you so much, Aidin! This absolutely made my day, and you never disappoint! Thank you for showing me a world so close to me that I have never truly explored or appreciated.
I live in a very flat region of Michigan where the "mountains" are at least a 4 or 5 hour drive away, but I found a unusually hilly region with a major river 30mins north on Google Maps and it was filled with hundreds of beautiful trails that looked like Amon Hen in LOTR and like your forest location here! Giant arborvitae growing on steep hills with moss and ferns everywhere. You're absolutely right how beauty can be found in your "backyard". Also kinda surprised you mentioned AllTrails lol Fantastic video as always, my stylish brother...you got me inspired yet again
Love your shoots and definitely the message. Thank you for inspiring us!
Thank you Aidin. I can always feel the peace of mind when watching your videos. The lockdown of the whole city in Melbourne was eased today, can't wait exploring my backyard!
Amazing work. The amount of hard work behind this entire sequence is really evident. The variety of shots always kept me engaged, and to add to that the amazing color grading. Great job!
Love your perspective Aiden and adding to this it can be a fun and challenging way to get better by making the most of where you are at and what you got. Whether it is location, setting or equipment, limiting oneself drives creativity
Absolutely!
Just as good as ever, love the tone and colour grading, the feeling is real. Thanks for sharing this inspiring Vlog. Us in Canada, we sure can relate to what you're expressing so well.
Aidin, just wanna let you know your vids serves as an inspiration - the natural solemnness makes this a great vid for solo goers like myself.
here over a year later from when this was posted, still amazing, still relevant and forever timeless content. Beautiful.
I can feel the atmosphere. Love this 👏
Thanks for sharing 😊
This is just incredible dude! Loved the cinematography, music selection, colour grading and mainly the way you explained everything!
Good stuff brother, good advices, and loved the color grading!
Man, thank you for all the time and effort you put into your work. Going there by yourself and try and try to get a great shot is very inspiring. Gracias.
You heard it here first guys. Like I like in a small town in maryland and I always thought it was boring. But then he mentioned All trails which I had never heard of before. And after downloading it, I realized that there are so many great nature locations just minutes away. Exploring you locations really helps. Thanks Aidin! You've helped me look at my "backyard" in a completely different way!
Hey Aidin! Just catching up on some older videos here. You're 10000% correct - I live about an hour from the cascades and I've been seeing folks posting pics from the Yukon and I'm like "must be nice!"
Enjoyed the video, as always!
I have learnd a lot from you Aidin, you are the best really just never stop!
Just great and totally true. I live in the middle of Europe in the middle of forests and I go out into nature whenever I can. Keep the nice attitude! Cheers!
Am so glad someone is dooing a slow paced well crafted video.... loved it😍
I love everything about this video. Thank you.
Great job Aiden ! Such an inspiration about getting out and exploring as well as the behind the scenes sneak peeks!
Thanks Aidin for another cracking video. I wish I had all of your energy to set up so many different shots. Definitely something to take forward on to my own channel.
Man... your content and your color grading with the EOS R is unreal. I'm LOVING my EOS R, now I just need to get outside and start practicing some more! Seriously one of the best creators on RUclips Aidin!
You're right, this IS a good vlog. It's a good and challenging question, and you explored it thoroughly and expressively. I thought my area was bland and uninspiring and our weather so often bleak. But you've convinced me there is still plenty of aesthetic beauty to be found. Thanks!
Couldn't agree more! Would love to get out and explore new places but never forget where you're from! Lots of amazing places all you got to do is look. We have a great time shooting in the Blue Ridge Mountains we're from Georgia so it takes a few hours but we go every chance we get. Heading there this weekend to film a hiking vlog on Mount LeConte. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!
What you said about "grass always greener" is true. I drove through Nebraska and just LOVED the big flat landscape. But there were NO places to stop on the highway. So I literally had to break laws to take a few photos. I guess all locals seeing me next to the road were thinking I was stranded or had a car failure. They had of course seen a million times.
Dude, I spent all morning learning something from you today through your tutorials, and is so nice to see your early videos when you were just a little kid, Really nice seen you growing up thought the videos haha. Cheers, and Thanks.
Truly inspiring Aidin. Wonderfully shot and edited without trying to be epic. Subscribed!
Man, you're such an inspiration! I'm literally watching all your videos haha Great stuff and love your alternative point of view when it comes to shooting travel videos.
I LOVE this video so much! Aidin, you're so incredibly talented! I love how this is a tutorial, but it's also a motivational video, a cinematic experience, and a vlog all at the same time! I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into your craft! I am so inspired by your work! Thank you for doing what you do! :)
7 hours to the Alps, 2 or 3 hours to the Blue Ridge Mountains, WOW. I am days & days away from any Canadian mountain, and many, MANY hours away from the wild forest and Muskoka Lakes region, but we have lots of low rolling hills, spotted with farms, patches of forest, small rivers and steams, town & villages and I still search my back yard for hiking trails and photo opportunities almost every weekend. You have great photos and videos and since it is IS "everyday" and "mundane" close to home stuff is why I watch. Love your style. Cheers from southern Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada.
Love this Aidin, I take breaks from youtube. But when I come back I always check you been doing. Crazy work keep creating bro.
Thank you SO much for creating this. I am so guilty of this myself.... and I live in freaking Northern Idaho! This was such a great reminder to stop and remember where I live!. Great message, I wish I saw more of this on YT in the travel vlogger realm!
I like it Aidin. just felt the chill from the color grading.
Absolutely love this 🙏 amazing work
I agree with you. Love the color grading, music and your editing skills. Lovely hiking trail by the way.
I really loved the way, how you portray your stories. But trust me legit that place is a gem!!
Your cinematography is inspiring and uplifting dude! I believe the grass is always greener where you water it.
I'm off to shooting now.
damn!!! this is a good one.
Wow, thank you for this, Aidin! Truly opened my eyes!
Great storytelling and fantastic color grading! Thanks for the video and inspiration
Love the fact its all in the rain and fog. Not often you see that. good words about the grass always greener elsewhere. Everyone gets that as you say, but when you get to elsewhere sometimes the grass was greener at the place you just left hahaha
This video couldn't have come at a more appropriate time for me. Cheers Aidin. Thanks for cranking out great content as always.
Stoked to hear that!
Such a nice relaxing video with loads of great value! Well done mate :)
What dedication. Attention to detail. I feel like you in everything you said and shot. I love losing myself in nature. We all need to do this more often. Find the peace within.
Glad this resonated with you!
Love this video so much Aidin! Everything about it is so good, in particular your message! It's exactly what I'm making my channel around, inspiring people to get outside and explore what's around them! Great to see that message being spread elsewhere :)
Excellent work, and LOVE the color grading you used for this. Very dramatic shots. Living here in the Blue Ridge, like you, I agree, it's really easy to take it for granted. The fact is, we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. I mean, people travel here from all around the world, to see what we can see in minutes. Need to get up there and explore Mt. Mitchell more! I agree, those woods are incredible looking. That transition shot from you walking in NYC to walking down the hiking trail was epic. Thanks again for the great video, I always learn so much from you.
You always have some great color. And that shot in front of the headlights was deadly!.. I did my first rain shoot somewhere close by my area and just finished editing it... This video was very fitting. Thank you!
man this was so good, the colors omfgg
Great advice, and you're absolutely correct with your desensitizing comment. Time to get into the moment again. Thanks for the upload.
Very well made, and even more inspiring too hear your comments about the research, making the best of your backyard, and how to present your own craft, and creativity (which is unique too each of us). I really like your style of post, and especially the scene at the coffee shop -which must have taken a long time to shoot with one camera. Overall so true - I can really relate to everything you say - I would always go out on weekends, and become a tourist in my own backyard. Thank you for sharing your experience and how you see thins.
Took a pause while watching this to say that I absolutely love the muted, deep greens in your shots.. in my opinion unmatched and I’d love to see a future video explaining how you expose and grade for this. Great job man.
Glad you like the style! Did a grading tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/rsabrtaUFPw/видео.html
@@AidinRobbins I’ve seen it, I’ve seen a lot of your videos lol. Just curious as to how you often expose for these shots since I believe that getting a certain exposure helps with the tones that you achieve.
you are the only one that have made me realize how " a grass can be greener on the other side", you are such a gem also to have on RUclips. Loving how you changed throughout the Journey
I like your channel man. Something refreshing
So many great perspectives! These videos keep inspiring me to do better man! Thank you for sharing your thoughts ! 💯✔🙏
As a fellow hiker and videographer I ❤️ your videos, keep me inspired to use what equipment I have and find creative ways to shoot. I find winter ❄️ hiking 🥾 beautiful too! 🙏 Aidan!
Great tips! I 100% agree with the concept of getting out in weather that is less than ideal. Adverse weather can completely change the look and vibes of a location!
Been wondering this ALL the time lol and I’m glad this video is here! I wish I could go out and watch you shoot some videos, I feel like I’d learn so much
Such an amazing weather to vlog. Absolutely beautiful man!🔥
This should go viral as it contains so many deep thoughts everyone should experience and only coming up in places with peace like those mountains.
Very well done. I live in East Tennessee. Yes, we are blessed to live in these beautiful mountains. Really enjoy your creative videos.
Great message and video. As someone who grew up in the Piedmont region of NC, I didn't appreciate the outdoors until I moved to the Rockies.
Great information Aidin, love your content and creativity ❤️
As a fellow hiker and videographer I ❤️ your videos, keep me inspired to use what equipment I have and find creative ways to shoot. 🙏 Aidan!
Damn... you're pure inspiration... I need to get up, keep shooting, and enjoying this beautiful world called "Filmmaking". Thanks, Aidin.
Glad you found some inspiration in the vid!
Such a great and moody video! Great job!
Thank you Courtney!!
your life seems so awesome and easy going , just being able to make videos like this
Hi Aidin, I'm a big fan of your videos. I live in Italy, I got mountains just behind my backyard...hills is more correct. But to go to 1000 meter mountain and find a forest like yours I have to drive for 40 minutes. And I never think about it, we have to appreciate what we have in our surroundings and be inspired of. Thanks Aiddin
I really need to out more into the great outdoors in my next vlogs. These are dope.
You're right... it's always greener somewhere else... I live a few hours away from several 14,000+ mountain peaks, but where you filmed this looks amazing!
Incredibly watchable and helpful. Thank you very much.
My new favorite RUclipsr/filmmaker. Absolute beast!!
Really appreciate that homie!
Beautiful place... and absolutely I really loved it....
One of my favorite hiking of robbins... to appreciate it words aren't invented yet...❤💚💜💙💛
you're not just making a vlogs man you're making a film that we all love♥️
Glad you enjoyed!
Yup this was a really good vlog Aidin. Good job!!
Thank you!
Great video, amazing how you create such a nice image from a rainy day. And great suggestions as well! Living in Switzerland is almost the opposite problem... we have amazing nature and landscapes, but no matter where you go, there is always civilization, someone watching or dropping in the shot, somehow interfering with the creative process
I appreciate the way you storytell! Very creative, informative and visually entertaining ✨ also i admire your bravery going to remote places like that alone 😅
The shots😍😍😍♥️♥️♥️
Beautifully shot... Thanks for the inspiration
Yo mate,
Found your channel recently, and you already became one of my favs. Great content dude!!
Thank you Max!
Superb! Very inspiring video. Great job! Thank you 🙏🏼
Great video mate! Can definitely relate to the "I live in the most boring place ever" thinking. But it's true, until we haven't made the most out of what we already have, we really shouldn't complain.
Absolutely man!
Hi Aidin, it takes nearly two hours to drive to the Dolomites from where we live and still... yours is great content. Thank you and greetings from Italy.
Been watching a lot of your videos lately, and I have to say I really appreciate your content, and all the work you put in to it. Working on starting putting content out myself, just have to prepare mentally I guess.
Greetings from Norway =)
Great job Aidin. I could tell alot of work went into this. Walking back to get your camera all those times :) I love shooting on rainy day in the forest. Going to do it now! I live in a small town in Illinois, surrounded by farmland. But I do see the beauty in it. Being able to see such a great distance cause everything is so flat. I feel everywhere in the world has beauty in it. You just have to open your eyes to see it. Many people think a video (mainly travel videos) just have to be about a cool location. But I never focus on the location as much as the point of the video I'm trying to portray. The location is just a nice background for the story. But if you have a good story, the location doesnt matter. Good video brutha. Never stop creating!
