The UNITER came in two sizes a very small hardened version about the size of a garage and the regional switch like the one you have in the video. They had fibre optic and microwave backup usually a tower close by with the drum shaped antennae. I got told the reason they got built is BT at the time kept going on strike so Maggie Thatcher authorised funds to build a completely separate communications system that didn’t depend on the civilian communications systems at all to minimise the impact of any strikes. The system was built by Plessey (GPT) and General Dynamics I remember the signs just about. They had weird quite large white telephones looked like switch board with push to talk buttons that provided 128bit encryption of calls (long time ago now could wrong). They started selling them off about 2003 ish, with some sold for 150k.
@15:32 is the remains of the old tennis court, sadly was removed recently along with all the concrete foundations to all the building beside. Used to be an underground celler, but all filled in
They built a bunker similar to this at RAF Pitreavie not long before it shut. The whole site was sold for housing and the bunker was knocked down , I believe it cost well in excess of ¼ million to demolish. It took them ages to demolish as it was so well constructed.
There's one close to me near Inverness . It came up for sale afew years ago. I saved the sale advertisement as always loved the site. One near me seemed bigger tho. If anyone is interested I can send the sale advert it contains info, photos inside and specifications of the building.
You are right its a stealth. Bunker or has a bunker builder gone wild and tried to add a bit of 80s flair and individuality to a new clear bunker .I bet he is well proud of that .I dont understand why bunker builders never went for that art deco rounded corners like the French and Germans did during the war .it certainly looked nicer
Here is a tip for all explorers that have there camera lenses or eye glasses steam up. Get a very soft cloth, the same as you would normally use on you lenses. Not a yellow house hold polishing cloth. A proper lens cloth. Put the tiniest amount of normal hand soap on it, to cover the lens. You really only need a tiniest drop. Hand soap spreads on glass or plastic, big time. Polish you lens or eye glasses with it, just as if it were cleaning a lens, till it can’t be seen on the lens, at all. Now try to huff on it. Or try to steam it up. You will be amazed. Only lasts about 48hrs, so some cleaning cloths and a small hand soap in your exploring bag for next time.
First time I've heard of UNITER,so a particularly interesting video despite the fact that the place is secure!! That's probably for the best because it lets us just wonder what's inside...... love the dog walking disguise BTW and the fact that it throws a hissy fit at the start!! What do they say about working with children and animals????😁😁
I see you found one then 😉 I did a Google map view of the site the other year and noticed an odd concrete building, and after research came to the same conclusions as you. Had a quick look at the site, damn shame you can’t get in to look. On the other hand, with no access who knows who well preserved it could be inside? I do wonder if the current owners have access or if it was sealed prior to purchase? I’ve seen these sold so I assume they do have access should they ever want to, although I imagine they store stuff in there they don’t want stolen at most. Interesting explore guys, keep up the good work! 👍
This iv visited my self was ashame in the 90s it was sold for housing the runway is still in use but gliders use it now and then the housing astate goes upto the fence off the runway.
Aw a shame it wasn't open. Would love to see what the inside looked like even if it was just a bunch of concrete. Also looks straight out of Halo 3. Got that kind of vibe to it.
looks like something straight outa the walking dead. And to think that those hinges were for doors made for people to go in. that door must weigh a ton!
Hi guys, with those big blast doors, were they tamper proof as surely anyone with a big enough spanner could undo the hinge side of the door can't they ???. Thanks for sharing folks. xx
I guess the logic was if you were dim enough to unbolt the doors, you probably wouldn't be missed much when you met the armed services personnel preparing for your arrival and untimely demise inside.
@@chrisstacey1984 ahh okay thanks wasn't sure if you got yours online or not I'm from South West of England and don't have any army surplus nearby anymore. hope you guys are staying safe with the Covid situation and thanks for the great content
The British stopped using the Box rations a couple of years ago. Is this still in date. Not that it matters much, I still eat 30 year old rations, still fresh as a daisy.

Looks like some thought was given to the looks of the outside of the building. Looks a bit nicer than a plain concrete box.
Looks like a seriously well built bunker! Shame it wasn’t open. Would love to live in one of those! No worries about security or anyone getting in.
I live just around the corner from this 😁
@9:32, there used to be a radio tower there but they took it down about 4 years ago.

Know that place well, just up the road from me. The hangers were a good explore before they got pulled down and houses built there
Thanks IKS Exploration being back at work I don't get to watch the upload right away. But will always make in for a thumbs up.
Love the Guard dog

Good to see the new team members both two and four legs. Great vid thank you.
Thank you for the adventure !
The concrete camouflage patterns were worth seeing. Bit like the dazzle camouflage on warships.

The fact I live about 5 minutes away from here is insane I’ve walked past it loads of times and didn’t think anything of it 😂
Always a pleasure to watch folks👍👍

Didn't go into the bunker sadly folks
Fantastic Ian. Another great video and history
The diagonal pattern on the outer walls is interesting - wonder it it serves any purpose?
Those were my thoughts as well. Would be interested in finding out
Mr Stead vs. Baby food. Guess who wins?

Great intro..love your videos
Going for Walkies @6:35?

Any door like this has an edge or bolts that fold into the frame when closed. Removing the hinge will not help opening the door.
Even if you undid the hinge bolts good luck on trying to move the blooming door !
If Carlsberg built bunkers shame you could not get inside.
They sell those door hinges down Wicks. One hinge just about fits on a trolly. ...tee-hee!
Nice flight suit coveralls.
Where did you get your rations?
army surplus stores normally sell them

Os vídeos estão bem feitos aconselho parabéns
Freaking awesome!
That pasta stuff taste funny I got loads
How many skips do they need?? Great video like always!.
Looks pretty far out that building I bet it's like a doctor who's TARDIS inside lol
Let’s leave all the fly tipping and spends thousands knocking down buildings that have stood there for over half a century.😣😣
Why are you guys drinking wee
Bear Grylls recommend it
IKS Exploration can’t argue with that.
