To offset the added weight, you should add a pontoon on the same side as the motor. Could actually be mounted as an extension to the motor mount you have. Just a single pontoon, could be shaped styrofoam and glassed.
@@dwaneanderson8039 sure, but more stable with the pontoon. Been there, done it. Yup, a wee bit more drag, but the stability and security it affords is worth every bit. I made my pontoons such that they look purchased. But you don't need much.
I finally finished the kayak and Im in love with it, project cost a little more than expected but definitely worth it. Im going to try and pull in some salmon this weekend with it!
I bought a H 10 hybrid 10ft, I'm planning on doing the same with mine. 55 Lb thrust seems to be the ticket for getting where you need to go.... thanks for the video.
Great vid. Just ordered exact same trolling motor and battery combo. More $$$ up here in Canada. Will use the same mount technique - looks simple and effective. Thanks for the ideas! Looking forward to open water to test it out.
Just a fact a 30lb thrust or 100lb thrust will still move you at maybe 4mph. Thrust is meant for weight not speed. I have a hoodoo impulse 105, with a trailblaza, side transom mount. I have a new 2.5 hp Suzuki outboard. Top speed was 11.8 mph..I do only weigh 152lbs. But I cover allot of water, love the 2.5 Suzuki. If you purchase a new leftover model, they're $375.00. A 2021 model is $745.00..
I was thinking about getting a splash skirt made for one of these custom. Would be awesome with a cargo zipper so you could hit some class two rapids and not worry about filling up so quickly
With the regular 75amp battery I only got about 4 hours or so. I’m running the 100amp lithium power queen mini so can go a couple days before needing to charge it now. I tried to drain it one day and traveled 8 miles and the battery was still at 75%
Hi Getting Outdoors! Ive watched your videos a bunch and it finally convinced me to pick up an H10 with the same trolling motor you use. Im getting an aluminum trolling mount fabricated kind of similiar to what you did with the wood but with bar knobs to fasten it down so i can remove it. My question is when you had the motor like this off to the side how stable was it? Im on the fence about getting a pontoon for the side of it to make it more stable like another commentor said but in your video it looks pretty good. Thank you so much if you have the time to read this!
Hello yes if you’re going with the side mount I would definitely recommend investing in a pontoon. With the 55 pound thrust it’s pretty heavy so it definitely makes the kayak unstable for sure and also makes backing up difficult because of the side drag too. You’ll fined yourself having to sit more on the other side to counter balance the motor as well. If ever interested in more hands-free set up please check out this other video that I made ruclips.net/video/92_Y9Fz5waU/видео.html
White Mountains NH do you recommend it? And do you just charge the battery, plug it into the trolling motor and go? Is it easy to use? Thanks for all of your help!
What size battery did you use? And how long does that last? I’m in between the 55 and the 86lbs thrust. I’m only in a 17’ canoe but we do have current where I’m at
I am currently using the Power Queen 12V 100Ah MINI LiFePO4 Lithium Battery. And with a full charge I can easily fish all day traveling well over 8 miles with it and still have juice. It’s an expensive battery but very lightweight and works great with my 55 pound thrust trolling motor.
fuckthisshit I’m using the Mighty Max Battery 12V 55Ah inside a Minn Kota Trolling Motor Power Center to keep the battery protected and clean. It gives me about 4 to 5 hours out on the water
Not sure exactly how long the shaft on the trolling motor is. I didn’t have to cut though because the Newport vessels are meant for kayaks so cutting them isn’t necessary.
The scissors on your vest pointing upwards looked like a possible final destination in the making
Nah…forceps….harmless. Don’t it for years.

It's more efficient to just offset the weight by placing the battery on the other side of the boat. The battery is far heavier than the motor.

That's way COOL. You sure can clip along with that 55 power. Nice setup, quiet, smoth and go anywhere.

i was gonna do the same lemme know how it works on an h10

Sick set up!

Every cast... That's why a propelled kayaks are the way to go.
That's a pretty good clip!
You’re good !
What battery do you have running that
Just got one yet to hook it up but can't wait, upgrade from the old 18 pounder lol

That would be awesome!
Good video man. does it drive straight or kind of at an angle? I didnt think side mounting was appropriate.
Just got the 62
That looks fun!
How much you get in a day of battery life? With 52amp draw or something

Dang 8 miles. I got the same trolling motor but looking forward to a lithium

Awesome
What is charging like? Does the motor come with a rechargeable battery or what is the deal? Looks awesome!
Ben Sibold The battery is sold separately. I’m running the Mighty Max Battery 12V 55Ah. It gives me about four to five hours on the water

The shaft length for this trolling motor is 24” right?
Yes
hows the balance? i paddle across the columbia on tidal pulls wondering if its pretty stable or would be a little shakier than a pond

Have you ever checked out the MPH at full speed?
4-5 with my viper Menards kayak
how much for the motor
Was $209 from Amazon
Catches the exact same fish during the entire video......man...lots of fish in here.... 😉
Yo Preston
When you are cruising at full speed, how high above the water are the edges of the canoe? Thanks!
Hold your camera still.
