Great chemistry between Bo & Barzy! Spot on Gil ! Lots of upside potential for Holmstrom! He is looking good, Plus player, Takes high % shots, he is gaining confidence! LGI
Gm Gil. Shockingly, the Isles are 4 points out of a playoff spot with a lot of games in hand. But, they are 21 points from the top of the division. Neither Barzal nor Horvat are playing at a level to justify their cost.
Justifying their cost is another issue. And you're right, they aren't producing at that level. But they do play better together than when they're on separate lines. We'll see how the Isles do tonight, it's a big game vs Philly. Thanks for the comment, Eric and LGI.
Great piece on Simon, Your "Locked On" is one of the best around. Thanks for your hard work and professionalism. Don't be suckered in, it's always great to win but we need a serious retool. The last thing we need is for Louzer to offer Palms, JG and Brock, another contract. How soon before Varly is back?, I would bet some team desperate will take a chance on him, what is his worth on the trade market? would love to hear your thoughts
Thanks for the kind words, Mary, I appreciate it. I agree with the retool and I fear this winning streak will lead to extensions for Palmieri, Nelson, etc. No timetable on Varlamov. He has been skating on his own but hasn't practiced with the team yet. I hope he can come back soon, but we don't know when. His trade value won't be much if he doesn't show that he's healthy. He would have to play 2-3 strong games before the deadline to have much value at all. Maybe you can get a mid-round pick for him. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? Bo and Barzy are good together, like Boss and Trots. Patrick Roy likes to shuffle the lines like a deck of cards, and I understand that; however, HE SHOULD LEAVE THOSE 2 ALONE. There's nothing wrong with being a playmaker, but he needs a sniper . Now, they've got Anders Lee, and so far, it looks. Simon Holmstrom had a 3 point against CO. If he has a little more confidence in himself, he could score at 30 goals or more. He's getting more ⏲️ on the PP. He did a 180 a scored a goal. Tony D'Angelo and Scott Perunovich can be a big help. The Islanders are in Philadelphia tonight to take on the Flyers. It's a big game. The Flyers not only lost to the Devils, but they got scorched. I sense some tension between them because of Ryan Poehling and Maxim Tsyplakov. Also, every time the linesman have to officiate a game involving the Flyers, they're down to their last nerve before the 1st period is over. HAPPY 🎂, CHRIS SIMON 1972-2024. He was enforcer he who had some unforgivable incidents. He scored 2 goals in a win against Pittsburgh. Hear from you later, Gil, but before I go, I'm 👀 Game 6 of the Finals. You wanna bet every 🚗 in the Coliseum parking lot, along Hempstead Turnpike, all the parkways, and 495, especially going thru the tunnel while honking their horns with either WERE #1, or LET'S GO ISLANDERS on May 24,198O, and or singing WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
I loved when the cars were honking like that coming out of the parking lot. I hope we see a good game tonight. A regulation win would be huge as far as the playoff race. Thanks for the comment, Cindy and LGI
Good morning team! Gil, how did you know, peanut butter cups, is one of my favorite snacks? I too love seeing Barzy and Horvat on the ice together. They seem like they know what they are going to do with the puck before they get it. I'm also glad Lee, with his increased production this year, is back on the with them. I've said it before, winning takes care of everything. They feel good doing it, and they want to have that feeling again. Tonight, we do need to get the win against the Flyers, in regulation. Even though we have games in the bank, winning in regulation is a must. Hogberg would have probably started tonight. Have to rest Sorokin. Can Varly take it? Can't wait for this one. We'll talk about it tomorrow. Everyone, have a great day! Enjoy the game tonight. See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
I'm glad you liked the peanut butter cups analogy. A regulation win vs Philly is huge in the playoff hunt. It puts the Isles ahead of the Flyers with a few games in hand. A loss and the Flyers are ahead and the Isles fall back. Yes, Hogberg would have started, but I'm not sure when we get Skarek or if we get him. They can't afford to wear down Sorokin. Thanks for the comment, Tony. Always good to hear from you. LGI.
The biggest reason tonight's game is so important is because of the schedule after it! We have a 8 game stretch from hell coming up!! Don't wanna give away a very winnable game against the flyers. At least they are going into this tuff stretch playing some really good hockey. Lets go boys keep her rolling!!
Hope they can do it tonight and you're right, the schedule does get very tough. Wins over Carolina and Colorado are a good precedent. Thanks for the comment, James. LGI
HeyGil, enjoyed the thoughtful analysis of Holmstrom‘s play, what a nice developing story… i’m almost thinking that his shot taking reticence is down to his self-effacing nature, I mean, I don’t know if I’ve ever even heard the guy speak -has he been interviewed by any of the Islander press corps? on the overall islanders picture, not to sound like what Uncle Junior on the Sopranos would’ve called a “gloomy Gus,”but I’m just not buying this recent upsurge and five game winning streak -as great as it feels, I think it papers over the big problem that is not going away, that this team still needs to get younger ,faster , etc. The winning streak is very seductive, and I’m afraid Lou is gonna double down on “believing in this group “and we are going to squeak into the playoffs and get eliminated in the first round by (fill in the blank )in five games-again. Your thoughts? Keep up the great work !
I am also concerned that Lou will double down and buy or even stand pat and not make any moves. The retool is still needed but Lou isn't inclined to go there. I agree that Lou needs to retool, everybody else sees it, but not Lou. Let's see how this happens. Making the playoffs and losing again in the first round is not helpful in the long run. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Yes, it does. Roy had them as a line earlier for a few weeks last season to jump start the offense. It worked at first and then they cooled off and were separated. Thanks for the comment, anticensorshipsociety1063. LGI
still could be a nice p & b sandwich with a third wheel that could score some goals on line. Never gonna happen as long as a louzer gm remains. And 10 is not a 30 g scorer. 11 g's so far. 15-18 at best. And not the jelly to p & b either. 10 should be packaged with 29 or dealt for real goal scoring help. Maybe trade 10 for petey with rumours flying again or boeser. And pens w in ot, flyers L so pens 1 pt. behind isles. Flyers up next one pt. ahead of isles.
Varly is still hurt. Skating with the team but not practicing yet. If he's healthy, he'll be the backup. Right now, with Varly and Hogberg injured, they called up Skarek. Thanks for the comment, christophercancel934. LGI

Holstrom and Romanov continue to improve with every passing game and they are YOUNG!

I love Cisikas, but has anyone noticed he can’t hit the net 4 feet from it.
He's had a rough season overall. Thanks for the comment, justinestelle2178. LGI
Nelson on the first line with Barzy and Bo would constitute three centers on one line.
Yes, it does. Roy had them as a line earlier for a few weeks last season to jump start the offense. It worked at first and then they cooled off and were separated. Thanks for the comment, anticensorshipsociety1063. LGI
Dobson, Nelson and Palmari and a first for Petterson and Quinn Hughes! I know I'm dreaming but Petterson would be great.
Yes, that is dreaming. It's a long shot that the Isles could land Pettersson, but let's see what happens. Thanks for the comments and LGI.
Hughes is a lefty id throw in pelech as well and boom there you go.
Hughes-pulock
Romanov-Deangelo
George/perunovich-mayfield

Why is Sorokin playing so many games? Bring Varly in. Sorokin will be out of gas with so many games he's playing. Give him a break.
Varly is still hurt. Skating with the team but not practicing yet. If he's healthy, he'll be the backup. Right now, with Varly and Hogberg injured, they called up Skarek. Thanks for the comment, christophercancel934. LGI
