The thing I love about both cars is that they offer totally different driving experiences. I look forward to my time with each.
No doubt they are a fun driving machine, you can't beat Porsche in the corners. I might have to set up a hunt for a little project Boxster S to rebuild or fix up over winter.
I agree, I've been looking for a Boxster for about 8 years now....But it ended up with a MB SLK, then a Z4 -03 and now a Z4-10. My Z4 is a black metallic one with the pure traction interior (black alcantara with black leather) which is really nice looking inside as outside. It’s a pretty practical sports car that offers a coup and a convertible experience without a big compromise. I completely agree that nowadays interiors of bmw are so similar it’s hard to say indeed which model it is. I'm still waiting on the new ones to grow on me! If I were to get one, it'd have to be the Toyota Supra, it's also not a beauty, but much better looking and with the BMW engines.

Stay away from the 4cyl N20 engine it has catastrophic timing chain guide issues. The N52 is bulletproof and cheap to maintain but yet still provides enough power.

Enjoyed your video I bought a 35is with the BMW 1M engine also with two tone paint about two years ago for my wife and I love it… I nicknamed it Elvis… 😂 the dual clutch box is a 🍑 peach and changes exceptionally well. If you look at the all time classic BMW 507 you will see the cars lines your E89 has and understand it’s pedigree. Those cars now fetch approx 3m each. An E89 will never appreciate that much but agree it’s a really interesting car. Removing the run flats for PS 4s made such a big difference I could not believe it. It now goes round corners a lot better. The size and proportions of the car are excellent, much nicer than modern cars. Ps. Love your blue example..👍
I agree with what you say makes this car unique. It's an unique and timeless design and is a rare sight on the road. I like the ending of the video :))
Boxters old fashioned now. Might handle better, but try finding one that doesn't have black interior and soft tops are just a pain to keep clean. Get the basic 23i, mine 90k sweet engine. Last for ever. Said the big engines just too much for the chassis and seem to have problems, injectors, pumps, turbo rattles.
I just got one and yes I love it. One issue that I have and hoping you can help me. When I have the AC in Max mode the evap drains into the passenger floor. I assume the drain is clog but don't know where it is. Thanks in advance..
I am pretty sure the N54 isn't that reliable, the engine is ok but it's all the other ancillaries like HFPF injectors waste gates etc. but still as you mentioned this is more of a GT car and a GT car needs at least 6 pots so I'd still take one over the N20. The N52 provides the same refinement / sound as the N54 although a bit slower but it's still no slouch (at least in the 30i) and will be way more reliable compared to both the N20 or the N54. It's a shame BMW did not fit this car with the later N55 engine which has all the benefits of the N54 but has less reliability issues. I wonder if you can transplant an B48 into this car, now that would be a great engine to have LOL......... maybe a future project / challenge for you?
I had an N54 in my e92 335i for 4 years (24k-95k miles) and all I did was replace plugs, coils and the water pump. So, I think I'm a little biased toward that engine. They may not be super reliable but they are more reliable than the N20. I had to swap the engine in this car due to spun bearings and timing chains are super common in engines until about 2014. B48 would be an awesome project.. if someone would donate a crashed car with a B48 in it to me lol. Thanks for watching!

Great video! I have the 28i and 5 seconds to 60 is a fast sports car. The 28i also allows the E89 to handle better in the corners as it is lighter and sits further back in the car. Would love to drive a 35is and use the launch control to see if the 1.5 seconds less are worth it. 😁
These sure do handle a little better than the big brothers. I honestly don't feel like I need more power in this car as I'm enjoying the drive itself - as long as the roof is down. As soon as the roof is up, I want to drive it like a sports car, but that's probably more of a habit coming from owning an e92 335i coupe. Thanks for watching!
Of course it's worth it, just from the sound perspective let alone being a bit faster. It might be true that with the 4 banger it might handle a little bit sweeter but for most drivers who don't push the car to the limit I doubt that would be hugely noticeable yet the sound and speed difference would. Don't forgot also how much more power can be tuned from the N54

Hey man, great videos I love mine too! I have a 2009 sDrive35i, same exterior and interior colors as yours but I have the dual clutch transmission... though I wish I waited and found one with a manual. Bought it in 2012 with 12k miles and have 60k miles on it now. Hoping to keep it for as long as I can! Have been enjoying your videos as you go through yours. Quick question - have you had the chance to look into replacement ceramic brake pads? I have always had terrible brake dust with the OEMs and they are now at the point for replacement. What pads would you recommend? Wouldn't think I need to replace the rotors, just the pads.
Thanks for watching and I find it amazing that you've had it for such a long time! I tried finding an sDrive35i with a manual, but there are kind of rare around here or crazy over KBB. I haven't had to look into the ceramic brake pads yet as I haven't had to replace mine yet. Luckily for me, whatever was installed by the previous owner was decent as I do not have any brake dust, or it's very hard to see on black wheels. I usually go with Akebono on all of my cars and they seem to do a better job with dust compared to OEM.
About average for BMWs, the roof seems to be pretty solid without many issues. I have a video on BMW Z4 problems to expect, check it out for many more details!
@@SimpleCarGuy thanks! I'm considering this model to buy, but still not sure would it be well suitable for the traffic and climate in Kyiv. Hopefully I'll be more determined closer to summer :)
Really depends on what you want. The previous models (like 2007) are soft top and more 'hardcore' than these cars. These Z4s are more comfortable, cruising type of cars rather than sports cars like the previous generation.
I can’t decide which Convertible one to buy a BMW 2011 Z4 35is 335HP Vs Nissan 2011 370Z 332HP? Which one of the two is more reliable and cheaper on repairs?
I'm onviously biased, but I would go with the BMW. They are a lot more rare and you don't see 20 ricer Z4s like you do 370z at every other car meet. BMW will be more expensive to repair.
SimpleCarGuy Ok so 370Z is off my list but now I need your help can’t decide which one to buy! Which one is better in terms of engines and Automatic/ Automated Manual Transmissions, performance, reliability, resale value, Style, Head turner, not to many repairs and maintenance. Both Hard top Convertibles and Automatic/ Automated Manual 2008-2013 BMW M3 or 2009-2013 BMW Z4 sDrive30i or sDrive35i or sDrive35is
@@SIDVENOM M3 is a much more practical car as it has 4 seats and a bigger trunk, it will not be as reliable and more expensive to repair if you can't do your own work. The engines, suspension etc are more specialized and rare, so parts are more expensive as well. I would probably go for an m-sport 335i if I had to go with a 3 series. It's good for resale as M3 keep their values quite well. If you're concerned about being a head turner, M3 will not be as affective as the Z4, they look only a little bit different from a regular 3 series. Z4 sDrive30i is the most reliable out of all the cars you mentioned, it doesn't have a turbo, but also far less powerful compared to the other two. The sDrive35 is a great car (and has the same engine as the 335i, but weights less) and much more of a head turner, you just don't see roadsters on the road that much and I get compliments almost every day with this car. It's decently reliable as far as BMWs go and average cost to repair. The sDrive35is is the same car, but has a slightly better tuned engine and a DTC transmission, but no manual. If you are only looking at an auto, this is the one to get.
SimpleCarGuy So bottom line the Z4 sDrive35is with DTC is the one to get? Now which year of the Z4 sDrive35is with DTC is the best to get when it comes down to reliability, not to many repairs and maintenance 2011-2013?
@@SIDVENOM They are all more or less the same as far as the years ago, BUT 2013+ are LCI models, so they have more goodies. Definitely go for 2013 or newer.

What’s the reliability like? Any major issues?
About average for BMWs, the roof seems to be pretty solid without many issues. I have a video on BMW Z4 problems to expect, check it out for many more details!
@@SimpleCarGuy thanks I’ll check it out
Have you done anything to you exhaust, it sounds pretty good?
No mods to the exhaust other than removing the vacuum line from the flap in the muffler.
@@SimpleCarGuy what purpose does the vacuum line serve?
On my second 35i. These cars are definitely in a world of its own. It's like a chick magnet.. for middle age men lol
which year is it ? and how much you paid for it ?
It’s 2012, the second is much more complicated as I got it with a bad engine and replaced it.
Большое спасибо за видео! Очень интересно и содержательно! Подскажи, какой средний расход у авто?
Spasibo! I get about 20 MPG (11.761 L/100km) average with driving in sport all the time and about 28 MPG on the highway (8.401 L/100km).
@@SimpleCarGuy thanks! I'm considering this model to buy, but still not sure would it be well suitable for the traffic and climate in Kyiv. Hopefully I'll be more determined closer to summer :)
Do you think it is still worth to buy a 2007 bmw z4?
Both Hard top Convertibles and Automatic/ Automated Manual
2008-2013 BMW M3
or
2009-2013 BMW Z4 sDrive30i or sDrive35i or sDrive35is
@@SIDVENOM M3 is a much more practical car as it has 4 seats and a bigger trunk, it will not be as reliable and more expensive to repair if you can't do your own work.
Hola una consulta mi auto solo tiene 14mil kilómetros y se arruino el termo estato quiero saver el por que se arruina esta parte por favor mi auto es bmw e89 2015
What engine is your BMW Z4? If you don't know the engine, let me know what model it is.
@@SimpleCarGuy es motor 2.8i de 2000 de silenciada gracias
It’s strange if your thermostat went bad at such low kilometers, usually they last 4 times as long at least! Maybe you got a bad unit or let it run low on coolant and overheat.
@@SimpleCarGuy muchas gracias
Wich year ?
2012
Bmw 335i came hard top convertible also
Very true, but it’s not a roadster.
Do you got instagram?
Yes, I do! Check it out: instagram.com/simplecarguy
e85 is sexier
i have a 2013 e89 20i ,The engine sounds like a tractor.
It does sound like a diesel when you open the hood and listen close, but sounds pretty good otherwise!
I came here for a fiat left wanting to buy a z4
haha, I can see that happening! I was lucky to have both at the same time for a little while.
Thanks for watching!
Designed by women, shaped like a lady toy.
Just buy a Toyota supra 2019
At $50K it's a bit of out my price range, but I'm sure it's an amazing car!
What year is this BMW?
