When this album first got announced I thought "About time, what the hell have they been doing for 13 years?" and apparently it was making Pneuma and it was worth it.
The album was worth the pain of waiting 13yrs. I think Tempest is the song that shows Tool can still blow our collective minds and reach an even higher level of greatness. Please Tool don’t make us wait even a fraction of the time for your next album.
Invincible is a masterpiece also. The whole album is. In my brain, it doesn't make any sense that someone with the minimum sense of music can listen to Tool and say they suck. Oh well... Lucky Us who appreciate their work and geniality 🤘
They use textures and long-form songwriting oretty similarly! I wish tool would experiment more. The drop d guitar led experience feels a little overdone by now, they could explore other things sonically amd it would benefit them.
I’ve watched Pnuema dozens of times and each is like the first. Amazing! Tool’s genius is making odd time signatures sound great. Nobody does that like they do.
I've never touched a drumset in my life, but I never get tired of watching drummers react to Carey playing this song. The insight and admiration pours out of folks, and it's truly inspiring to me. Seeing him play is hypnotic. Even without understanding what he's doing or how he's doing it, you innately sense that you're seeing something profound, transcending human endeavor to commune with the divine. No form of expression better evokes that feeling than music, and Danny Carey demonstrates that beautifully imo. The man is a shaman. Loved your reaction.

I think he keeps his high hat in the center because he uses it as almost the metronome. It is going at 44 through almost the whole song. It allows him to do all of his crazy things with all of his other limbs and always know where center is always know where one is.....
Was at that Tool concert and then again last year, truly the best band ever even way up in the “nose bleed section” the sound was incredible and a amazing experiences 😊
This is my first visit to your channel. Danny is a master of his craft! I contend that the first few minutes is Danny warming up! His playing just keeps getting better & better! My favorite segment is when the overhead light begin to flash AND Danny breaks it out! The time stamp is at 12:07. Danny has played the drums for 50 years. I contend that he is a one man drum line! Thanks
Anytime I see anything with Tool on it I have to click and like it. I've been listening to them since the beginning and never get tired of there unique sound and skills.
lol, man, you are the best. Honest, genuine and funny. Too many times these reaction videos are over-the-top in love with the content in order to make the hardcore fans happy, but your sincere approach and truthful befuddlement, rather than trying to be a know-it-all is refreshing. Go on with your bad self. Loved that you called his kit a Battle Station 'cause that is exactly what it is. One of my favorite parts about attending a TOOL show is before the start, when they wheel the kit onstage and the crowd roars as if they have just been told they all get to meet the band in person after the show. Carey is a beast (or a giant from Skyrim, lol) and every good beast needs a killer den. In regard to headbanging, I have found prepping with a compass, protractor, pencil and grid paper helps with the necessary calculations and expressions required to bring your head down on the "one." "Which foot is controlling the high-hat, (look of bewilderment) what the fuck is going on?" LOL!!! \ n//
The hate comes from fools, the band is way ahead of the pack musically. So tight together and intelligent in arranging their music. It’s a true band ‘ it consists of 4 instruments. Guitar gives way to bass’ vocals inhanced guitar’ drums fill and lead’ whatever instrument , it plays a prominent role in every song they write, and that’s awesome. And interesting. God bless ! Thanks for the vid.
I remember 80's - 90's drummers had these gigantic kits and it seemed like they hit about 3 of them Danny has one of those huge kits, but his drum sticks hit every single one of of those drums multiple times, a minute.
Buddy, I can’t tell you how enjoyable it is to watch you honestly being astounded at a 6ft 5 or something man who is at the top of his game. “I give up” was an apt comment bc he’s so inspiring, and yet we feel like crap bc deep down, we all know that we’ll never be as good as him. With 1 arm and 1 leg, he’d sound better than us. Lol. Anyway we can tell you love your music, so keep on keeping on. Breakthrough…plateau…plateau……..small improvement…..plateau. Go Well.
I love how the percussion is every bit as much if the song as the vocals. They aren't just the foundation of the song, they contribute an almost vocal element to it. It's hard to explain what I mean but it blows my mind.
When asked by interviewers why Maynard often stands much further back on the stage than most vocalists, Maynard has responded saying that he is only 1 part of the band. No musician puts more into the band than the others, he doesn't "stand back" he stands with the rest of the band as they are all contributing equally to the music.
Exactly. I think there is only one tool song that sounds like the drums are playing a rhythm. The rest, the drums are an instrument that is not in the background.
Danny has basically defied the law of conservation of mass/energy, created buckets of new energy, and said to all of us: "I Maketh so I can Giveth. Come forth and Taketh. Shareth, Learneth, Loveth thy self and thy Neighbor"... Straight up created an economy for all of us to benefit from. There is no one quite liketh Danny Carey!
“You’re gonna need to stop that.” 😂 Btw, the new album, which was a 13 yr wait from the prior album, has drums this awesome on each of the 5 long songs on there. He really reached a new level (obviously lol) but they all did as a band. I mean, the album is a masterpiece IMO.
My Dream would be getting one of these videos for every Tool song. The reaction videos have been great too, I loved seeing drummers/musicians be blown away by Danny Carey’s jaw dropping performance. Arturo’s Battle Station and Skyrim Giant comments made me smile and it was cool seeing his reaction to this awesome video.
I've got a band for you to check out. Jinjer is a progressive metal band from Ukrainian. The drummer is a classically trained pianist who picked up the sticks when his old band named a drummer. He plays on a very low set jazz style kit. The general introduction is their song Pisces the live session.
Hey thanks for the comment! I actually did exactly that and reacted to the pisces video and it’s up on the channel ruclips.net/video/tRzr5ITGtOk/видео.html&feature=shares
Went to see tool in Feb 2020 in Aus just as covid was about to shut down all. Thought I had crappy seat but was high up to the right above Danny. Sometimes the sticks were a blur of motion and could not believe someone could be that fast. Best view ever and loved every second. At 57 I just wanted to rush down to the pit and join in the hell spirals of bodies totally lost in the sound. Absolute musical brilliance.
Any group that can make an odd time song especially in 33/8 time signature is especially good! Out of this world kind of good! Most musicians can barely do odd time songs. The fact that Danny Carey is doing odd time polyrhythms in that time signature is absolutely mind warping! Little Johny gave the devil some fiddle lessons, and Danny gave the devil drum lessons! 😅😅
Thank you for being honest in your reaction. I have watched several of the reactions to this particular video where you can see how lost the commentator is and only picks out the simplest parts of what Carey does. To admit that something confuses your mind, that you aren't sure exactly something going on in a particular moment is a true reaction and makes it enjoyable to watch.
Thank you! I have not even bothered to watch other reactions to this video. I just like to check out drum videos and thought it would be fun to share with you guys and it turned out to be great as a channel 😁 thanks for the watch and comment!
Been slowly getting into playing drums, and seeing stuff like this there's so much that drummers do that I know now the average person can't appreciate 😂 how's this guy so calm but hitting like 100 hits per second and it all just sounds so smooth and together. I don't get it either bro lol
I particularly like how during the bridge when Danny is doing the whole polyrhythm and polymeter thing, his hi-hat is keeping a steady 4/4 time, and his ride work is ridiculous. What talent!!
I miss them playing slightly smaller venues. The TD Garden in Boston is the worst venue around and that’s where they’ve played the last 3 times I’ve seen them.
I saw them at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh a couple weeks after 9-11. At the end of the show Maynard said "I hope this helped you heal" then the band did a group hug front and center.
I’m reminded of it everyday because my brother gave me a Alex Grey framed picture that hangs on my wall everyday. It’s the only actual normal thing on my wall besides cymbals and led lights 😂

As a mega Tool fan, I can tell you most of the hate Tool gets is because of the fans, not the band. We can be a bit...overzealous in our love for the band. For people who aren't as in to them it's on the same level as someone who's always talking about the Dead or Phish or Zepplin, or any of those bands that people really, really love, but aren't for everyone. It's why I don't tend to talk about Tool much outside my circle of Tool fan friends. There are definitely some Tool fans who have proven to be real assholes about their fandom and that, rightly or wrongly, projects back on the band for some people.
100% truth. There's a lot of cringy/toxic fans that put me (and many others) off ever even wanting to listen to Tool. Thankfully I checked them out anyway. Blows my mind that such a psychedelic band attracts those kinds of fans, they clearly don't even understand what they're all about.
"It's hard to bob your head to this" Been a Tool fan since the 90's, I gave up on trying to move my head in time. Instead, I sway through the rhythms I'm brought through, by the music. I love how all 4 parts of the band are so in touch that each piece feels like it's meant to be there, in it's final form, and not forced or manufactured, but au natural
Just found you. I’ve seen 100 reactions to this video. Yours is so from the heart on the rip and really bring out the best fills and builds. I just subscribed!!
"I'm just gonna sell my drum set." I can't tell you how many times I've said the same thing after hearing someone like Danny play a ridiculous song. Hell, he's so good that it almost makes me want to sell off my guitars and bass too 😆
Yeah I joked about it and to some extent it’s true 😅 but really this stuff inspires the hell out of me to get better at my instruments. I’m only 31 so there’s a whole other half of a lifetime I got to get better 😁😁

Agree. Listening to their music properly is like a worm hole. They are the only band I honestly can listen to non stop. In the last 3 years I e listened to them almost daily and I get more out of their songs over time. You cannot listen to fear inoculum a few times and get it. A hundred times and it sings to you

Idk why everyone finds it hard to “bob their head” to tool. Maybe its because i literally grew up on them but for me the band has SO MUCH groove even in crazy time changes especially if you listen to Adam playing over DC. 4.You speak as if you're learning as you go.
Well done.
Great reaction brother!!
Surprised you don’t have a lot more views on this. Awesome stuff man!
Hey man thank you! We can only hope right? 😁 you could share it on Facebook or whatever you use and that would help me out a ton! Thanks for the comment man! Hope you enjoy the other drum reactions I got Cookin up
@@TheGhostNotePodcast Definitely brotha!!! Will do🤙
@@sevenduster27 thank you!!!
“This man must be stopped”. Hilarious, man.
I think he keeps his high hat in the center because he uses it as almost the metronome. It is going at 44 through almost the whole song. It allows him to do all of his crazy things with all of his other limbs and always know where center is always know where one is.....
'Kin A cousin!!
It brings tears to my eyes seeing people get so skilled at their craft that they spend time with perfection.
Thanks
Carey is one of the greatest drummers I’ve ever listened to. Will say in my opinion, dude is the greatest of our living generation. 👊🇺🇸🧂
Anytime I see anything with Tool on it I have to click and like it. I've been listening to them since the beginning and never get tired of there unique sound and skills.
Insanity is the perfect word! He is a monster drummer! The time signatures are just mind-blowing! Thanks Danny!
I still have a tough time with Lateralus and it’s time signature relates to the Fibonacci sequence. Insane!
lol, man, you are the best.
In regard to headbanging, I have found prepping with a compass, protractor, pencil and grid paper helps with the necessary calculations and expressions required to bring your head down on the "one."
"Which foot is controlling the high-hat, (look of bewilderment) what the fuck is going on?" LOL!!!

Just sucks they decide to do an album once every 11 years
We are spoiled right now with how many incredible drummers there are currently out there.
At the last chorus he looks like a wizard just casting magic.
A masterclass in difficult time signatures.
I remember 80's - 90's drummers had these gigantic kits and it seemed like they hit about 3 of them Danny has one of those huge kits, but his drum sticks hit every single one of of those drums multiple times, a minute.
Danny the octopus 🐙
"That's some nasty fill"😂. Best quote
Great band
Syncopation, at its finest!
TOOL ROOLS them all. Every Member is legendary and skilled..
Really enjoyed your reaction video. I like that you pointed out the dynamics on the snare rim. Keep up the great content.
Danny Carey. Absolutely genius
My favorite part of this is the muted double tap at 12:47 to bring the whole band back on time.
So crazy he’s in his 60s. I’ve been loving Danny and Tool since 91’ 👽 for sure.
One of, if not thee, best drummer in the world...seeing him play this live is absolutely I credible
Great reaction. I love to watch people react who can appreciate the technicality of what he's doing.
Love a good Danny Carey reaction video. You know how good someone is when it's fun watching someone watch them!
Been slowly getting into playing drums, and seeing stuff like this there's so much that drummers do that I know now the average person can't appreciate 😂 how's this guy so calm but hitting like 100 hits per second and it all just sounds so smooth and together. I don't get it either bro lol
Seen this so many times. Blown away!
I particularly like how during the bridge when Danny is doing the whole polyrhythm and polymeter thing, his hi-hat is keeping a steady 4/4 time, and his ride work is ridiculous.
What talent!!
It's just inhuman. Very few drummers can even understand what this guy is doing. He's just so far beyond all but 0.1% of everyone else.
Everyone should see Tool live at least once, please heed my word....you must.
My second concert ever was tool. It was at an arena in Dallas tx and we had nose bleed seats. It was fucking amazing.
@@TheGhostNotePodcast never noticed the hitting of the snare with the cymbals at the end. Shit is fkn 🔥
I can and have watched Danny play drums for hours. Live and online
“this man must be stopped” lol
Danny Carey is a GOD
Tool's one of the GOATs. Danny's one of the GOATS 🤘🏼👁🌀🌀🌀
I’m reminded of it everyday because my brother gave me a Alex Grey framed picture that hangs on my wall everyday. It’s the only actual normal thing on my wall besides cymbals and led lights 😂
@@TheGhostNotePodcast 😂 Awesome bud! Glad to hear lol.. Alex Grey's art is incredible. Such a good fit with the band and music. Human creativity and collaboration at it's best.
Yeah his art is so unique. Tools music is a perfect fit for it
DC is my favorite drummer. That last lick with the cymbals and snare is your 6 stroke roll with the accents and bd on cymbals. Great job on the vid!
Showed this video to a buddy of mine. He gave the best quote of all time... "That man paid his dues at the cross roads." DAMN!
I just subscribed!!
thank you so much! just dropped another danny carey video if you wanna check it out :D
"I'm just gonna sell my drum set."
I can't tell you how many times I've said the same thing after hearing someone like Danny play a ridiculous song.
@@TheGhostNotePodcast I've only got a couple years on ya, but I'm pretty sure I was "middle aged" in high school, so I already count each day as a blessing 😂
Man I saw this video yesterday and can’t stop watching it… so sick
You have to grow into Tool and their journey. Once you do there's no way back ever again. These guys are legends.
They have so many great songs but you should give Invincible a listen or Right in two or stinkfist or Sober or The pot or....or...or...or well, just listen to all their stuff
Agree. Listening to their music properly is like a worm hole. They are the only band I honestly can listen to non stop. In the last 3 years I e listened to them almost daily and I get more out of their songs over time. You cannot listen to fear inoculum a few times and get it. A hundred times and it sings to you
tool might not be for everybody but the are are all i need. i love them
I’m not a drummer first of all, but I personally think the odd beats that don’t make rhythm sense and the part where both hands are playing different rhythms is so unbelievable to me. He has to be one of the best drummers ever. Wow
Don't forget about each foot playing a different time
His groves are amazing - love playing TOOL on drums !!
Idk why everyone finds it hard to “bob their head” to tool. Maybe its because i literally grew up on them but for me the band has SO MUCH groove even in crazy time changes especially if you listen to Adam playing over DC. Its so powerful you cant loose the rhythm. EXCEPT the Rosetta Stoned breakdown. That is the only one that still throws me when i try to tap along
Try to avoid overuse of the word literally, the most overused word in the english language these days...literally
