- / caquintet This is THE COMPLETE 1969 TRIP THRU HELL album by the C.A. QUINTET. We thought many of you would like to take a trip, but you couldn't for some reason. So, we thought we would bring the "Trip" to you" This video/trip has things to look at along the way in addition to the music which is in premium super stereo ... so use headphones for the best traveling experience.
The Trip Thru Hell album (LP or CD ) has been re-released on SUNDAZED and is now available for those of you that want your own copy at sundazed.com/c...
This is our way to thank those that have kept our music alive for all these years and to those that have passed it on to the younger generations. Over half of our audience is under 35 and we have been waiting for you to get on board
We have a great deal of music and stories about the band that have yet to be made public and we will continue to add them as time and we go by.
This channel is a continuation of the work/musical creation of a creative impulse felt by some people from Minnesota, USA in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
We took and still are on the path of no rules, no fear, no envy, no meanness and are best known for the 1969 TRIP THRU HELL album.
We chose not to promote ourselves, or beg for subscribers. What we do here is only for you and just for the "Hell of it". Money can buy a thrill sometimes but not peace of mind.
If you found us, it was meant to be.
Welcome aboard.
The Trip goes on
We dedicate this to Tom Pohling , Doug Reynolds, Donnie Chapin and Rick Patrin without whom this music could not have been imagined.

C.A.= Complicated Answer. The 1st time I heard this Underground Music came on and I was like Wow that guitar section has every effect available!!! Love the Stereo version here!
Wonderful and we especially appreciate you figuring out what "C.A." stands for as we have been trying to figure that out ourselves since `1967 .... many people have attempted previously to decipher the name ,,,, but I think you finally nailed it ... as it truly is a "Complicated Answer" :)
One of my favorite albums, this doesn’t get the recognition it deserves
Thanks for the complement
Oh no. I have this record sleeve in a frame on my wall.. and I've made a few people listen to it. They just don't know what they heard.
I AGREE TERRIFIC LONGPLAYER
Incredible, never thought one of the original creators of this underground treasure of a record would upload it to youtube so many years after it was first created!
He’s a good guy
trip thru hell pt 1 and 2 are probably the best 13mins of music I've ever heard. Truly tells a story and makes one feel as they've stepped into a separate dimension so far from their own; one that can only be described as hell.
You never heard the album “666” by Aphrodite’s Child? I guess the best is yet to come for you.
@@Donjonneau yes the 1hr and a half album compares to a 13min double single …
@@SizzlingToast Don’t compare the length, compare the work and sound qualities.
A masterpiece! Best album ever to come out from the state of MN.
Thank you for your kind words ...enjoy the trip
Don´t forget The Litter !!
I don't know how I stumbled over this but I am glad I did. This album is amazing.
Well it was meant to be.... welcome aboard
Legendary avant-psychedelic progressive underground classic.
The haunting vocals , the drums, the guitars, ...great album.
Thank you!
This music is absolutely astounding. Rich melodic speech, harmonies breathtaking orchestration constantly renewed in the use of the stamps of the instruments, in short a babylonian sound architecture erected by humbles and impetuous interpretes-composers🌺
I don't think I have ever seen a sentence with so many adjectives .. and well positioned in the structure of the sentence.... we appreciate the (many) kind words....

My friend showed me the title track a week ago and I've been listening on repeat for the past few days, glad I found the whole album!
We are pleased that we have found each other. And we are glad you enjoy our music.
We checked out your channel and enjoyed your comedy ... keep going you have the ability, and you are providing one the most important things to make life worth living ... I tried to become a comedian at one point ... but nobody noticed :)
good luck ...
I would listen to your album on repeat while studying for some exams I had when I was 16. Ever since then, having listened to it more and more properly, I really think it is one of the best albums of its time. Thank you so much for uploading it! An innovative and incredible piece!
Well Jack... having you listen to our album while you studied for exams, would be the closest that some of our band members ever got to a serious education... We do appreciate your kind words and glad we could be of some service to you .....and we are glad we found you as well.... the trip goes on ...... :)
I bought this album when Sundazed first reissued it on CD. Got it from a little independent CD and record store that had it out on display. I was drawn in by the cover. I was listening to a lot of early San Francisco psych music at the time, so I absolutely loved this. I listened to it like a dozen times within the first week of owning it just trying to figure it out. “Smooth as Silk” is probably my favorite song off the album.
Thank you for sharing your story... we enjoy hearing stories like yours as creating album for people like you was our only motivation from the beginning. I will forward your message to Rod Eaton who created the cover.
I would like to tell you so much, but I will try to be brief. A few months ago, I acquired a psychedelic collection (a few thousand). I have never heard this kind of music and if I say that I know from music, I will lie. I've listened to about 1000 albums so far. The C.A. QUINTET, it entered my ears, my heart, my soul. In order not to spoil the album, I have written it in mp3 and I listen to it while doing chores at home. I am 46 years old and thank God you were born to write this album. I feel very lucky, that I caught on to life the 3 members of the band, to give you my congratulations. From me and my family. I would very much like to meet you, but this is probably impossible. I am in Greece. Thank you for entering our lives.
Efi
Well, what can we say? ... thank you for those kind words. The three of us are honored to meet you as well.... When we created the album, we did so with you in mind... creating something to appeal to everyone or as many people as possible was never the goal... The creation came from our hearts. Over the years the album has served as a “filter” that found kindred spirits like you and expanded the experience of life for all of us.
We love your country and would love to meet you as well. But the chances of that are not too good. But a physical meeting is not required as we have already met in a much better way … good luck my friend and please say hello to your family.... now we need to go do our chores as well :) .... the Trip goes on
Discovered in 2023, great album! 😊 Got the CD reissue yesterday
Maybe it's because of the name but when I listen to this composition, it reminds me of Dante's Divine Comedy. When I close my eyes and get sunk into the music, I almost feel as if I was visiting hell but just as mere explorer, not affected by everything that happens around me. And every time I dig deeper into the dark symphony, the choir reminds me of the peacefulness of being just a watcher. It's amazing journey, one in a kind.
Thank you that is one of the most thoughtful and beautiful descriptions we have ever had from someone who experienced our music ... it makes us feel that the effort was worth while.... welcome aboard

@@CAQuintet Music is very transient, it does have an expiration date, but OUTSTANDING music like yours doesn't!! Thanks for producing (and posting) this gem of an album.
I got into the rare late 60s psychedelic genre back in the mid-2000s thanks to KPSU's "Psychedelic Renaissance" radio show by a brilliant old timer called Cosmic Jim, who had an amazing collection of original rare vinyl including your album, which he played in almost every show along with other contempory gems like Music Emporium, Plastic Cloud, These Trails, Kak etc.
Thanks again for making such great quality music and for reaching out to your audience!
Thank you ... you are very kind ... believe me it was a pleasure for us to make this music... and now many new people and a younger generation are discovering our music for the first time. We are so grateful that some of us are still here to share thoughts and communications with those that reach out ... and this is also a pleasure for us.... the trip will continue and tickets will never be required to ride @@Citadin

Well, glad we finally connected .....
Amazing album.
Thank you CA QUINTET for sharing this! You. Are. Wonderful.
Our pleasure... to share....
Pretty groovy trip. I can see this also being real great music for some silent films. Some of the early stuff had hell or devils and imps. A good pairing. Consider checking it out for fun. Thanks for the album and for the funny and insightful replies to comments.
Interesting observation... actually my grandmother (and her sister) played piano at silent movie theaters before they had movies with sound ...(she lived to104) We knew her but of course never heard her play piano or saw the movies where she played piano for as they were shown on the screen ... that would have been an interesting time to see a movie .... I wonder if she had something to do with some of our inspiration to write music ... I remember she did call us little devils at times .... Humm ? thanks for the suggestion and comment
This music is crazy, in a very good way!
Thanks for creating it :D
Una obra maestra...lo tengo desde hace años. Saludos desde España. No sé qué pensarian los Beatles 😮

A fantastic L.P., one of the best of U.S. psychedelic! Great to see you guys active on the internet! It`s great to chat with you! I remember in my 20`s, trying to cover "Cold Spider" with my band...Such a difficult track to cover! By the way (sure you already know) your original L.P. costs hundreds of dollars. Of course no way i`m giving it, for any amount. A true gem in my record collection!
We are very pleased to hear from you... Yes, Cold Spider could be a rather difficult song to play .... We would love to hear your version if you have one. I believe the "web of dust" got in the way :) ... If you are still attempting to play the song unfortunately the guitar player Tom Pohling left a few years ago. But the drummer and bass player are still wandering around the planet. Perhaps they will give you some tips on how to play the song if you want.... We try to answer all messages. If you send an email to info@caquintet.com I think they will respond ....

In the 70s I got the original Candy Floss Album here in Germany on a fleamarket, too sad that it got lost over the years and I don't own it anymore. One of my all-time favorite Psych-Albums...

This album is amazing, i felt like i was taken to a series of stages and was able to listen to short segments of a bunch of different plays
nice observation perhaps scenes on the journey.... glad you found us and we found you
Gave songs from this album airplay on my college radio station in 2017, possibly it's own ever airplay, but it was something :) Always really liked this album, I think Cold Spider's instrumental and the screams are so creepy and well crafted in particular. The guitar was so wild and strange sounding in general through the album
Welcome aboard ... appreciate the airplay... hopefully you were not expelled after... :)
@@CAQuintet Haha nope, Cold Spider I played on Halloween, one of my professors was pretty impressed by it. It was a lax station, I saved the stuff I could get in trouble for right before graduation ;) by the way, do you know the lyrics for Cold Spider? I can only understand the first verse and the words at the end with the silver paint. Love the weirdness though, the spider is the guitar, the organ is its web. I can't see how that wouldn't have been intentional, have taken quite a few trips myself but already had synesthesia.
@@Valientlink I am impressed with how well you listen to the music... well yes I do know the lyrics as I wrote all the music and lyrics for the album (this is Ken) I will put them in this reply for you. When you explore the channel a little more you will find all the songs on the album are on there individually as well with the lyrics and sometimes background stories about the song.... glad to have you on board... you will fit in with the other passengers already on the "trip" :)
A web of dust
Blew in the holes
Of the sandman's head
Keep the water
That
Dried the dirt
The
Greatest thing
Was hurt
Cause it was
Cold Spider
Cold Spider
Nothing rang
Except the sand,
Bells
Rang nothing
A parade of coffins
Stood and stared
Decorated in
Biased rags
Cause it was
Cold Spider
Cold Spider
A soul man threw up himself
As talk of famine grew
Silver paint ran from the ground
The spider to his death

Glad you enjoyed the Trip and we hope your own personal trip is going as smooth as silk :)
I bought an original copy in the late eighties in a local record shop for £2. Owned it for a few years and sold it with a bunch of other stuff I didn't want anymore. Didn't know what it was at the time. Rarest record I ever owned, deep regret but at least I did own one once.
Well you are now a member of a unique group of people that did something similar...and that includes a couple of original band members. I had 25 sealed copies in 1969. Over the years I gave them all away with the exception of a few that I set aside for my kids. In 1999 I was able to have all the original band members sign a sealed copy for my daughter. (We cut out a little area of the plastic off the back so it is still sealed) I am sure that is the only copy in the world with all signatures on it.
If it makes you feel any better I am in the same "club" as you are in as well. In the 1970s a guy did a little house repair work for me and I was short $10. But he was willing to accept an album to make up the difference. I wonder if he kept it ? What a sad state of affairs we are in now as we can't even afford to buy our own album :) But we don't really care and it is always fun to hear stories like yours ... take care my friend...

@@CAQuintet Good to hear that its appreciated and not a waste. Hard to emphasize the magnitude I put behind "thank you" tho. Where did you get inspiration from? Like musically.. It must've been so ground breaking? I would sacrifice a limb of some sort just to join in on a jam session with you guys back in the day..
Well you caught me (Ken) at the computer. As far as inspiration.... hard to say... I guess maybe it was just that we enjoyed doing what we were doing.. Now we are doing a lengthy project on the creation of the Trip Thru Hell album and other assorted things that will contain a lot of information and background on the band . We started the project with a video called "preview" that is currently on the channel. and we will include a lot of radio interviews with all the members (some who are no longer with us ). As we put it together it will also include some outtakes of the music as the music was being created and even some home videos. I did an interview recently with a magazine called "ugly things" that I think is coming out in November . I can't remember what I said so I am interested to see what I said :) As far as wishing you could jam with us that would have been just fine with us as well. Not sure what you play but check out the live 1971 videos on the channel... we have 3-4 hours of that on tape and we will keep adding stuff from those recordings as time and we go by.. so as much as I do not want to.... I need to return the "normal" things that I do ... like everyone else .... those things are not as pleasurable as chatting with you .... but I will ensure your comments are passed on to Jim and Rick ... take care .... the trip goes on ...@@VanaheimrUllr
@@CAQuintet Thank for answering Ken, its an honour.. And this sounds amazing, I was just doing a little search round to see if I could find more surrounding the band, even though the music speaks for itself, it would be interesting to hear your stories, but found little. I was introduced to you by a friend who makes beats, hes a real crate digger, and that was twenty years ago. I knew back then that this music was something I should keep with me, but I had forgotten the name of the band for the last 5 years or so.. But today I remembered it clear as day again. Thats the nice thing about a bad memory, one can experience the same thing over again for the first time..! Enjoy reading your own interview 😅 Ill be sure to keep up to date. The best wishes to all of you, trip goes on ❤🌵
Does anybody know what: C.A. stand for?
Check out the notes after the song on our channel called Mickies Monkey and let us know if you have any suggestions :) ruclips.net/video/9QYZTJCjNDs/видео.html
No, really!! I've always loved this record. It can't stand for California or a Mexican Football team. What does C.A. mean. Spill please....🙏
🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶
What does colorado morning stand for?
That is one of the best and probably the most difficult questions I have ever been asked …
There is the obvious answer … What was I thinking of and what caused me to write the song? Well, I wrote the song 50 years ago…. so, I would be lying if I said I could remember exactly what I was thinking at the time I wrote it…. but that has nothing to do with the “meaning” of the song.... Bob Dylan (one of my favorite song writers) … had a line in one of his songs that said “don’t let other people get your kicks for you” …. I would apply that same concept to this ….Don’t let other people add their meanings to things for you… I have observed that nothing has any meaning or significance other than the meaning or significance that we (spirits like you and I) assign to it … I guess I have added meaning to this song in my universe…. And when I listen to that song, it brings certain meanings and emotions alive for me …. But now, as the result of your asking the question, I can add you to the meaning of the song in my universe … And if my reply does the same for you…. then we can both be pleased…
@@CAQuintet This is the most wholesome answer I have ever heard. And thank you very much for taking your time and answering me. Also thank you for the amazing music. Best regards from the European Alps
