KARGIL SERIES

Colonel Deepak Rampal was the commander of the 'Delta'Company of 17th JAT during the Kargil war in 1999. When he realised that his unit is moving to the battle zone he cut short his holiday and returned to be with his men. During the attack on Pt. 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley, his Company was tasked to clear area 'Whale Back'. In a daring attack which was launched on the night of 4th/5th July, Major Deepak Rampal and his men quickly assaulted the enemy and forced them to flee from their bunkers. Thereafter he motivated his men to beat back waves of enemy counter attacks over the next two days. Finally on July 8th 1999, he led his men in capturing Pimple 2 in a daylight attack thereby enabling the complete capture of Pt. 4875 complex. For his bravery in battle he was awarded the Vir Chakra.
