this doesn't mean too much. i mean obviously getting the #1 pick is more of a safe bet to say you're getting a future star, but that doesnt mean the higher teams cant get a great player. durant was drafted 2nd, kobe was drafted 13th etc. the team to watch out for next year has to be the warriors. a HEALTHY steph curry teamed up with 2 good big men in David Lee and Andrew Bogut + the 7th pick is a scary thought. if curry can remain healthy he will end up being a top 10 player.
How is it dumb? The reason it is in place is so teams don't tank purposely to land the #1 pick. The NBA's draft isn't as deep as the NFLs, there are usually only 1-3 franchise changing players. Imagine the year Lebron James was drafted and there wasn't a lottery in place, all those GM's would of traded away all of their players to get as bad as possible to win 0 games...The NFL has a deep draft doesn't need to do it.
Brett Nelson this is more than that. The Hornets were soon to be sold but did not have any star power to bring in buyers. This just by coincidence got them the best player in the draft and the team was sold soon after all thanks to the Hornets moving up 4 spots...
With just a 13.7% chance, on 5/30/12, the New Orleans Hornets beat the odds to win the first selection of the 2012 NBA Draft-surely to the elation of head coach Monty Williams, the 24th pick of the 1994 NBA Draft. Wesley Lavon Person was 1994’s 23rd pick; he was born in Brantley, in Crenshaw County, AL, which has Dozier, Glenwood, Petrey and Rutledge. Greg Minor-25th in 1994-was born in Sandersville, Washington County, GA, which has Tennille, Deepstep, Harrison and Riddleville. 240-54-1320
The worst teams have the highest chance of getting the #1 pick, but it is not a certainty. For example in this draft, the Bobcats had the highest chance of getting the pick and the Hornets had the 4th highest chance, but the Hornets still got the first overall pick. There is a large conspiracy that David Stern rigs the lottery to favor certain teams.

happy for my dude thomas robinson and his lil sis. hope he has a good long career cause he deserves it the most and has had to overcome things that no young up and coming kid should have to go through. #jayhawk nation
wow, to many people here think that david stern choose who got a lottery pick, key word is lottery, the 14 teams that had the worst records get a chance at a good pick, the worse your record the better chance you have
the percentile chance doesnt really define the overall chance completely. 25% chance but no matter what happens they get a top 3 pick out of the lottery. add that in the perspective and the formula changes. it isnt necessarily 25% chance of getting first pick and 75% chance of getting any other pick. the draft lottery is very complex and no one knows for sure what goes on behind the scenes. i personally dont think it was rigged and im from charlotte, but i can see where it is creating controvers
NW Division better watch out for Portland in the next few years. Two lottery picks to team up with Batum, Matthews, and Aldridge who is already an all-star.
to the people who are laughing off "rigged" comments...think ab this for a second..Stern is Commissioner of the NBA and simultaneously was GM of the New Orleans Hornets. He vetoes a trade that would have made 3 separate teams immediately better (Lakers, Rockets, and Hornets). And now the Hornets, who had the 4th or 5th worst record, wins the rights to the 1st overall pick.. How can it not be rigged?
People have to understand people will question the lottery every year due to what happened in the 1985 lottery. The lottery has been questioned for years and it won't go away if the team with the worst record doesn't get the first pick. Bobcats should have the no. 1 pick, no excuse. It's simple, get rid of the lottery and do it like the NFL does.
The reason why is because a superstar can change the entire dynamic of team and is the only sport where 1 player can make a difference on a team. Making it a lottery means teams can't lose on purpose to get that pick.
Totally agreed. Teams would just throw away every game to become worst in the league to tank some high draft picks over some years and then make a run. That's ridiculous!
Alot of people are saying that this was rigged. Me and many other people have said they wouldn't be surprised if the Hornets won the draft when the team was bought as a Thank you to the new owner of the team fo buying them. Another thing that surprises me is why the lottery part has to be behind closed doors. You'd expect that we would be able to see it happen but nope.
Oden would've been a beast and a superstar but he had been injury prone since high school. Davis on the other hand seems to be more durable and also has the potential to be a star but he doesn't have the potential that Oden had.
i understand that i'm not saying it definitely was rigged, but you can see where people that are saying it was are coming from, its ended up working out absolutely perfectly for stern and also if its a lottery why don't they let us see them physically picking out the ping pong balls
Wow, a player hasn't even entered the NBA, and you already want him to fail? Not saying that your comment has any significance or matters, but still. I mean, don't wish bad on a young kid who's filling out his dream. Remember, he's starting his career with the BOBCATS. He needs all the hope he can get.
i understand what you're saying but everything else just makes it so fishy, i mean come on they don't even allow people to view them selecting the balls anymore, and theres only one perfectly logical reason why
and ironically the pick goes to the hornets who lost paul in the offseason and got a new owner if stern wouldn't have given them something they would be no better than the bobcats.
Well how would you explain the scenario to a guy like me? I predicted they'd get the 1st pick months before the lottery. When Tom Benson first purchased the Hornets AND THE TEAM RECIEVED A FUTURE ALL-STAR GAME. Besides, the NBA's best interest isn't having Davis land in Brooklyn. Deron and Dwight would be great together for the Nets, BUT the possibility of having both land in LA with Kobe would be in the NBA's interest.
it might turn out to be better for the bobcats in the long run.....u people know how many variables and factors there r to take into consideration just b patient and c wat happens
“It was hopeless. The word Charlotte Bobcats would never mean anything to anyone.”
~Jon Bois
You know wut brought me here
1:37...the moment Lillard was going to become a Portland Trail Blazers.
this doesn't mean too much. i mean obviously getting the #1 pick is more of a safe bet to say you're getting a future star, but that doesnt mean the higher teams cant get a great player.

you was right
you was wrong bc Anthony Davis is EASILY better then any other player in the draft
Damn u called it
Leeka702 are you a prophet? You just predicted the Warriors' future.
DA REAL Johnny Appleseed yeah, because this one draft means the top pick is the best player in every draft. You’re an idiot.
It's simple.
Benson: "I will buy the team but only if you give us the #1 pick"
Stern: "Deal"
as a cavs fan, i was so happy everything went to order and then i nearly cried when i saw us announced 4th
Good news Hornets, AD gets a ring by 2020
He was better off in LA. New Orleans really did not do a good job building the team around Davis.
Damn...I feel bad for the Bobcats for not getting that 1st pick tho
Dirty Business Practice, I knew once CP3 got traded, in return they would promise their new owner that they would promise to gave them #1 draft pick.
How is it dumb? The reason it is in place is so teams don't tank purposely to land the #1 pick. The NBA's draft isn't as deep as the NFLs, there are usually only 1-3 franchise changing players. Brett Nelson this WAS rigged
Yes. They are officially moving to Brooklyn.

Poor Bobcats worst winning percentage of all time and they didn’t even get the first pick then they picked an absolute bust at 2
I saw that smile when he announced the #1 pick. He was a happy man announcing that.
Football is great, no complaints there and it is widely popular.
david stern - rigging the nba draft since 1985
u can just c the despair in the bobcats dudes eyes!! he's just thinking; well here goes another season!
and that's the beauty of it. Teams can't just completely throw away a season like the worst NFL teams ALWAYS do.
The worst teams have the highest chance of getting the #1 pick, but it is not a certainty. it really doesn't make sense, they allow for this kind of speculation when they don't physically pick the balls out on tv
The draft lottery gives the nba way too much power over the draft
I wish the NBA draft was similar to the NFL's (I hate the NFL though)
If you look closely you can see David Stern rigging this thing.
happy for my dude thomas robinson and his lil sis. hope he has a good long career cause he deserves it the most and has had to overcome things that no young up and coming kid should have to go through. #jayhawk nation
tom benson bought them last month right before the draft he also owns the saints
Personally, I think taking out the lottery would be good, just rank the teams by their record, it's faster and there is less controversy
The NBA is a BUSINESS yall! Their aim is ultimately to MAKE MONEY, not please fans.
Things don't change: the Bobcats still can't win even when the odds are in their favor. 7-59 just moved to 7-60 without playing a game.
Best video I ever saw in my life
yeah but any of the others aren't franchise players, anthony davis is the only one that will seriously turn a whole franchise around
I couldn't picture ant davis in a bobcats jersey anyway
you're right but how much better can that be...
wow, to many people here think that david stern choose who got a lottery pick, key word is lottery, the 14 teams that had the worst records get a chance at a good pick, the worse your record the better chance you have
I wont believe it until i hear that jordan is going back to the nba.
They were the New Jersey Nets but moved to Brooklyn.
glad to see hornets winning the draft...
Good for the Hornets..They won't even be that bad of a team next year with Eric Gordon
I wish the NFL did it like this
Yeah guys do the maths..
the percentile chance doesnt really define the overall chance completely.
Two lottery picks to team up with Batum, Matthews, and Aldridge who is already an all-star.
apparently because teams use to lose on purpose to get the 1# pick, i think the rockets once did this deliberately to get Hakeem. so they changed it
to the people who are laughing off "rigged" comments...think ab this for a second..Stern is Commissioner of the NBA and simultaneously was GM of the New Orleans Hornets. He vetoes a trade that would have made 3 separate teams immediately better (Lakers, Rockets, and Hornets). I'm pretty sure it's just to discourage teams from tanking if they're not making it to the playoffs.
Bobcats got screwed
He seems proud...
Totally agreed. Teams would just throw away every game to become worst in the league to tank some high draft picks over some years and then make a run. That's ridiculous!
That's pretty nice that new Orleans got it
It's a lottery that's how it always is. It's random on a weighted percent chance for each team.
Looks like Boston is doing its work and rebuilding already after Allen, Rondo and Garnett leave they will already have players replacing them. Smart!
Michael Jordan- " We didn't win the draft lottery"? " Don't worry we'll be back next season"
People were going to claim it was rigged regardless.
And after that Anthony Davis' making legacy
The Charlotte Bobcats record should be 7-60 now since they lost the lottery.
Congrats to the hornets al b sure is going to be a good addition to the team
if i was a commish, id want a playoff with 4 teams for the number 1 pick. that would be exciting
When LeBron left the Cavs they had their pick at #4. The pick they got from the Clippers was the number 1 pick.
The Bobcats had a 25% chance if getting the first pick. That means there's a 75% chance they wouldn't get it. It's not rigged, it's a lottery.
They're being sold to Tom Benson, owner of the Saints.
I'm glad Bobcats didn't get the 1st pick... The Bobcats obviously manipulated their record to have a better chance getting the 1st pick.
NEW ORLEANS HORNETS!!!!
Lets go!
No its not Tom Benson bought the team in the regular season
And a All star game apperance ,hustle defence and allaround play u dont want any of that right
Oden would've been a beast and a superstar but he had been injury prone since high school.
I'm glad the Bobcats aren't getting Anthony Davis. That team is career suicide.
That's Nick Gilbert and he's 15.
thanks , now I get it
Thank you, finally, someone who doesn't have their head too far up their ass to realize this!
WOOOOOOO - loyal hornets fan here, everyone else be mad :)
hes the son or the grandson of the owner he was the one doing it last year and they got the first pick so they just kept with him
That's his own fault for not developing. If he became better this year he'd still get attention.
Wesley Matthews is smiling for one reason and one reason only.
He has the Rookie of the Year on his team :P
Nathan Castro still not a all star
@@edonbytyqi3157 factually incorrect even at the time of commenting
It's percentage for the bobcats to get first. There still was a chance for another team to get first and i guess the odds got defied
I understand, but realistically, that would hardly happen, but I completely understand how that'd be a problem
stop stealing these comments and posting them like you know something.
for the good of nba i wished charlotte would have won the 1st pick (that would have meant picking anthony davis). i think they deserved the 1st pick
People!!!! Tom Benson Now Owns The Hornets, Not The NBA!
i understand what you're saying but everything else just makes it so fishy, i mean come on they don't even allow people to view them selecting the balls anymore, and theres only one perfectly logical reason why
lol the dude for the bobcats was probably thinking "FML FML FML"
1)New Orleans = NO
2) Louisiana is abbreviated LA.
NOLA= New Orleans Louisiana.
Lord Sturaro shit never realised that haha
and ironically the pick goes to the hornets who lost paul in the offseason and got a new owner if stern wouldn't have given them something they would be no better than the bobcats.
He averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds last year. You build around superstars, not above average role players, like I said.
How else was Stern going to sell the Hornets?
The potential owner needed some insurance on his purchase.
They deserve nothing... They intended to make their record worst to get the 1st pick. Davis for sure don't want to play in a team like Bobcats
You can never be sure ... Jordan wasn't drafted first either :D
I can't believe it! I am soooooooo suprised!
Bobcats should be 0-82 next year, maybe they'll have a chance then...
bobcats really needed that
Damn the Bobcats just can't catch a break.. lol
cool stern got the number 1 pick !
Well how would you explain the scenario to a guy like me? I predicted they'd get the 1st pick months before the lottery. Deron and Dwight would be great together for the Nets, BUT the possibility of having both land in LA with Kobe would be in the NBA's interest.
I'm quit sure that I'll see Bobcats and Nets in the Top 5 of NBA Draft Lottery 2013...!
The Knicks also got Patrick Ewing with their #1 overall pick when it was very convenient..
it might turn out to be better for the bobcats in the long run.....u people know how many variables and factors there r to take into consideration just b patient and c wat happens
