Fort Benning will be renamed in honor of Harold Gregory “Hal” Moore Jr. and his wife Julia "Julie" Compton Moore. The name change must be finished by Jan. 1, 2024, according to the 2021 Defense Authorization Act, which included a Congressional mandate to eliminate such tributes to leaders of the Confederacy. The fort is named for Henry Lewis Benning, a lawyer, politician, firebrand secessionist and Confederate general. Four of their children, Gregory, Stephen, and David Moore, and Cecile Moore Rainey, visited Ft. Benning recently and spoke about the post being renamed Fort Moore to honor both their parents.

Fully agreed on both counts. I spent 4 years with the 82nd and the renaming of Ft. Bragg to "Ft. Liberty" is frankly disgusting. However, renaming Ft. Benning to Ft. Moore works for me.
It just seemed like a very top-down process, with no inputs from soldiers who actually served at these bases, at least to me.

I did perfunctory research on the generals whose posts were renamed. These guys were pretty repugnant in their views. It’s good to refresh your brand every so often. They shouldn’t stop at just confederate generals, a lot of union generals were scumbags and racists, too. Rename those posts with more modern names, also.

Sorry, but it will always be Fort Benning to me! My mom and dad are buried at the Main Post Cemetery off of Custer Road along with my sister who was one of the last deliveries at the old hospital complex on Baltzell Avenue before everything was transferred out to Martin Army Hospital in 1962. I grew up there. I got to meet John Wayne and George Takei during the production of the "Green Berets" in 1967. Attended Patch and White Elementary as well as Don C. Faith Junior High before being bussed eighteen miles into Columbus in 1972 to the old Spencer High on Sheppard Drive. I eventually graduating in 1975, enlisted in the Navy and never looked back. We lived at 17 Christian Lane, 50b Arrowhead Road, 109 Baltzell Ave, 407 Wickersham Ave, 43a Arrowhead Road, 509 Baltzell Avenue and finally at 28a/b Arrowhead Road before dad retired in 1978 and he bought the house on Curry Street in the Dimond Springs neighborhood.

I have a great deal of respect for Hal Moore and the men of LZ X-Ray. But I disagree with the renaming the bases from Confederate Generals, who were local heroes, to make some PC political point. General Milley made it clear that the purpose of renaming the bases was to make the political point that the South, Southerners, and anyone one who defend the Southerners who fought to defend their homes against the political tyranny that General Milley supported are to be considered traitors.
The military could have canvas the state where the bases are located and ask those citizens their opinions whether to change it or not. The military could have had a campaign at the state level of the citizenry of whether to keep the base names unchanged or update the base name to a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient who served in Vietnam. But they did not do that. General Milley and the whole Joint Chiefs Of Staff made it clear that the South, Southerners, and their heroes were traitors. By their actions they have made clear that citizen soldiers are not citizen soldiers. What they have made clear that whatever loyalty to your home, family, friends, neighbors, your state is secondary to the US Military and the Federal Government. That is kind of loyalty oath you take to join the Mafia.
For over 150 years, North and South we honored the sacrifice each side made to defend their homes and the men who fought. Now, once again, people like Milley, who is from Massachusetts, has started a New Reconstruction Era. Once more rubbing in the face of Southerners that they lost. In fact, Milley said as much, when he referred to these men as traitors and losers. Well General Milley, how many wars has the US Federal Government won? Besides World War 2, the US has not really won a war since the Spanish American War and even then we have ended up involved in Latin America to our detriment. Korea was a Draw, Vietnam was a Loss, because we betrayed the South Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Laotians to the Communist. Lebanon we took a bloody nose and left. Thank God for Grenada and Panama at least we prevailed there. The 1st Gulf War might be a success but only a partial one only because we did not finish the job. The Iraq War and the Afghanistan War were failures. We have spent trillions of dollars, and tens of thousands of lives of our sons and daughters for what purpose? Freedom, liberty, human rights, democracy was that the purposes? Or was the purpose that Milley and his generation of military and political leaders was to foster corruption at home and oversea, to bleed out the poor and working class Americans of all colors to meet an agenda pushed by the elites.
Yes, Lee and we Southerner lost the war, but Lee never abandoned his men. The Lee and the Southerners fought until they ran out of resources and men. Once Lee and the Southerner surrendered they went home to rebuild their lives and their homes destroyed by the Federal Government.
What has Milley, his fellow generals and the political class done. In no war since World War 2 have we ever not had the manpower, nor have we not had sufficient resources. In fact we have always had superior resources than our enemies. Why has not MIlley and his political class that he defends not prevailed in any of these war. What they do is declare victories that are really failures, They abandon their allies and families to the mercy of the enemy. Scrap up off the ground the pieces of meat that were once our sons and daughters. Then throw the meat into body bags, salute, send them home to grieving families. They extol the sacrifice of the heroes, but they make the sacrifice meaningless. When in fact the sacrifices were not for high ideas but for political and economic gains for the ruling class. Milley and the current narrative is that the South fought for nothing but slavery and Southerner were fools for defending their states against the Federal Government. A Federal Government and North that was quite happy to benefit from slavery as long as they controlled the taxes and resources to benefit Northern textiles.
What is Milley and the political class having the American people sacrifice for? Power, Control, Wealth, it certainly is not Freedom, Liberty, Human Rights.
What was Lee and the Southerners fighting for? Their homes, and families
What is so sad is not that I have come to despise my country.
But I have a group of elites, most of who's ancestors were not even here or took part in the Revolution. These elites are destroying the country my ancestors struggled to create and maintain for almost 300 years.
People like General Milley is just another arrogant Irish Mick from Massachusetts. He is just another piece of Yankee Eurotrash.
It is funny. I wonder will his renaming bases, insulting Southerners, and pushing the Woke agenda going to stop dwindling recruiting? Have we not become like a decaying Rome, having to recruit foreigners who have no historical or familial ties to the country as well as having to hirer mercenaries to fight in Irag and Afghanistan.
Sometimes I just wish I live long enough to watch the Republic crumble, from the actions of the political elites that Milley has been supporting for most of his career. Milley and his group are the real traitors.
If it was desirable for these bases to be renamed it could have been handled some much differently. Instead of just bases in the South, rename all the bases after Congressional Medal Of Honor recipients just like was done in Vietnam. Where the buildings were named after the heroes who died in Vietnam. Maybe even have historical marker providing the original name of the base and who the person that the base was named after was.
But no, it is too late, you can see it in the news, or rather the brainwashing machines whether it is MSM or Internet media. Just making us all brain numb zombies chatting AOC is right, AOC is right, White People bad, America bad, White America feel guilty.

So I guess I lucked out. I got to work with some of the Boat People during that summer. My boss is a Catholic and sponsored several families. It has sickened me the number of times our foreign policies have made allies of people like these only to betray them.
Anyway if the base renaming's were for purposes like honoring the Vietnam Vets that we also betrayed, I still would not have liked it, but I would have understood it. Most people today don't know who Ronald Reagan or JFK were. So trying to get people to understand who Robert E Lee or Stonewall Jackson or any of the South's old heroes might be a stretch.
But Milley basically stated that they were all traitors and losers and I am trying to remember when the last time since Milley has been a member of the US military when the US has really been a winner. Depending on how you want to look at some of the actions. Milley and the JCS over the years, one might conclude they might have been considered traitors if not to the political class. Their policies have killed young Americans for no reason. So from that point they are traitors to the people they were supposed to lead.
